Henrique 9,133
For the record, he's useless as a centre-back. Ivanovic and Cahill are our best pairing. For the record Cahill is by far the worst CB since Boulahourz, but the dutch could play also as a full back, so he was more useful. Luiz as a CB play really good the big games, while Cahill used to fuck everythig in the big games.I'm happy both RDM and Benitez realiazed it, since Cahill is always the last option for that position. Henrique 9,133
He started his career as a midfielder but nearly got realized due to poor performances in that position.I actually think Rafa has been clever putting him in against teams who won't attack us that much, but there was a reason he wasn't put there against Corinthians. CB is still is best position for me.It seems you dont know that much about Luiz. João Paulo, his coach at that time, realized he was strugling to play with his back to the opponent, because he was still growing up. Yeah, he was 17 years old. So I dont know why you are talking about this, because right now he is 25 years old.
Henrique 9,133
You're a funny man. Perhaps I'm funny, but I think we should have more english players like Lampard, Terry and Joe Cole, so avarage players like Cahill dont get overrated. Cahill is like Huth. Take your time to read this, you will have lots of fun, but at least you will realize the same things I say about Cahill right now, are almost the same things this guy was saying about him almost one year ago when he still was a Bolton defender:http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1012915-chelsea-transfer-rumors-eight-reasons-not-to-sign-gary-cahillhttp://bleacherreport.com/articles/1012915-chelsea-transfer-rumors-eight-reasons-not-to-sign-gary-cahill

I respect your opinion, but here you are talking bollocks. You accuse us English of bigging up our players, yet you do exactly the same with Brazilian players. What it boils down to is Luiz is far more error prone defensively in terms of lapses in concentration, and that is the cardinal sin of a centre-back. The only place to be 11,313
I'm really coming round to this guy. When Jelavic strikes his free-kick, Luiz actually tries to stick his face in front of the ball. Look at the likes of Wilshere or Nasri who duck out of the way - I want guys in the team who will do that for their teammates and for the badge. JDY 1,290
You can't fault his commitment out there. This was really his first big test and he coped well overall.
Mr_President 404
He seemed to be everywhere on the pitch. Still makes mistakes with poor touches and misplaced passes too frequently to be considered 'very good' but it is only his second PL game in midfield. I am sure he will improve that aspect of his game and thought he was excelled at breaking play up, even at times if it was somewhat cynical. DH1988 1,348
Don't forget guys Rafa even said his fitness regime is still that of a defender at the moment so until he manages to switch it up and get fitter for that role I'd say he's performing quite admirably at the moment
kellzfresh 7,229
True fighter. When the match gets tough, we need players like luiz to fight for chelsea. I'm loving him in the pivot... Nando and cousin benson
Peppi85 110
I don't like him as a midfielder. We aint go no fluent balcirculation with him... He's everywhere on the pitch I hear people say? thats not what a DM should do?! He(or Lampard) should've been chasing Pienaar @ the first goal...Both had no desire to do so... A DM always needs to be willing to track back! No matter if you feel its for a lost cause... He' still a CB imo...(same as Ramires is no Right winger... Just takes some time till everyone will notice that ) CHOULO19

He had an okay performance and people who don't like him there will find stuff to moan about whilst people who do like him there will find stuff to encourage them. The simple fact is that whilst he's played, we've improved and he's still a newcomer to that position. Let's save the kneejerk reactions, admit we don't have a FUCKING CLUE about how it will turn out and wait and see. Okay?

YET! he has only had a few games there but I think it works atm and should get even better over time. Also, perhaps more importantly we have been winning with it and playing well. CHOULO19 24,332
He causes a lot less problems in midfield and i think it suits him.The problems he causes in midfield are not spotted by many, but they are there and they are much much more than in defense. The thing is, most football fans judge players and their performances based on particular incidents and not general play. No one notices that a 90% passing accuracy is excellent defending because it keeps the ball with us and limits the opposition's chances. Same goes for positioning because people expect the players that are back to deal with it and very few wonder why the other players are not back. Like today when Cole was getting slated for not covering for a player, but no one noticed that Cole was up against 2 players because Hazard was not tracking back when we were playing 4-3-3. People applaud a player for making a 20 meter sprint and putting a tackle to win back the ball and don't notice that the reason he had to do that was because he was out of position while no one gives credit to a player for stopping a counter attack by being in position. Luiz is entertaining on the ball, but how many minutes does an average player gets on the ball each game? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? There are 80-85 minutes other than those that everyone seem to neglect. MAF

What I meant by causes less problems in midfield is the fact that problems are magnified when they are made in defence because you are the last line. The fact he has an extra layer of protection helps him. Also compared to what we have available to play in there I think comparably he is one of the best.
