Ramires right wing, Sturridge through the middle, Kalou on the left, Mata in midfield. Its not too much to ask to play our two most influential players in their actual positions is it?

Unfortunately it is! I always get the feeling that Andre doesn't trust his players, and that they don't trust eachother. Dya know what I mean?

can't play ramires on right wing... too ineffective.

sad to say but we could play kalou there.

but anyway

can go with this:

cech

ivanovic - cahill - luiz - betrand

ramires - essien - mata

sturridge - lukaku - drogba/kalou

Drogba to play a supporting role instead of being a forward... like to see drogba do some of anelka by dropping deep to get balls and deliver some crosses for lukaku or sturridge...

Thought his two best performances this season (Pompey FA Cup and Wolves away) where when he was out wide. Granted he isn't the best in possession and his passing his poor, but he is very effective with his energy and pace out wide, and he is certainly a less selfish attacking outlet than Sturridge is.

Actually, on a tactical level, Meireles does make sens. We play at home against a team which fights to not go down next year. They'll most likely come here to park the bus and grab a draw. Therefore we don't really need a defensive midfielder, since we won't groan under the weight of their attack... The DM could be useless and hindering us to have enough going forward to break up Bolton defense. Thus regardless his level, this would make some sense.

As we lack the kind of passing that splits defenses apart, we will have to force the opposition's defenders to make mistakes in order to score. But, to do that we will have to put them under pressure for long periods in the game, which requires from us to keep the ball and pass it in their half, something Raul is terrible at. That is why I believe we are better off starting Essien instead of Meireles and perhaps giving him a bit more freedom in going forward than the typical DM.

Meireles never EVER makes sense, not in defensive nor offensive football. He simply adds NOTHING.

Yeah I guess Meireles does make sense for this game. Bolton are rubbish I don't think they'll attack us the way teams like Sunderland i.e. teams with confidence would do.

I just want to see AVB try something different FFS!!!!

Whether it be any of the following:

1) Sturridge as CF and Ramires at RW

2) Lukaku starting

3) Bertrand at LB

I would be delighted if even one of those actually happens. What's the point in doing the same thing over and over again?!?! I think we've established by now that Torres & Drogba are both shit and that Cole has also played very poorly indeed in the last few months.

If he was genuinely played further forward (not having defensive duties) he would be good. He was excellent for Liverpool when played in an attacking role. And he would provide more than Lampard or Essien imo (if and only if played further forward)
