Gary Cahill

Fantastic two days ago, kept putting in tackles and I remember a small Terry mistake that he did well to compensate for and avoid it becoming a problem. I'd definitely say he's a good CB, a lot of our players were quite poor at times in the game but Gary stepped up.

SA players who can do these sharp turns in tight spaces are a nightmare for him.

Doesn't even take an aguero - remember guerrero from Corinthian in the wcc ?

It's not like Gary is a bad player, just not good enough if we want to compete against teams who have players like Aguero up front.

Never mind Aguero and/or South American players, any striker with a half-decent pace and trickery is enough to give Cahill nightmares. Have seen him struggle against lesser strikers for England when they played the likes of Slovenia, Estonia, Moldova etc.

We have too many squad players playing as our core first XI. Gary Cahill, another player who has to be predominately squad player, is our go to guy in every game at every level. As 3rd or 4th option, I take him in a hearbeat, but as undoubted first XI, no. His shortcomings are exposes in every bad manner when he faces enough talent (which doesn't mean Aguero type talent by any stretch). Too erratic and you can't count on him reading ball well enough to step out of his shell and intercept the ball. Every centre half who is recognized as the best is doing that.

As if other so called world class cbs like Pique, Ramos or Silva dont make mistakes FFS.

Football today has no old school defenders like Terry, Puyol, Vidic etc anymore which is a shame. Those were the real defenders, not some wannabes like Ramos or Pique...
