Or my personal favorite: It is Lampard's fault that Gerard doesn not perform well with the national team.

Wouldn't bet against it. The English media are devious enough to come out with a reason, even if it's a ridiculous one!

Olympics - Frank Lampard could play for Team GB

DailyMail

Frank Lampard is in contention for a place in Team GB after his Euro 2012 heartbreak.

The England midfielder, out of Roy Hodgson’s plans with a thigh injury, can be named as an over-age player by Stuart Pearce for the Olympic side.

The FA have ruled that anyone playing for England in the Euros will not be under consideration for Pearce’s Games squad, but Lampard, 33, is expected to be fit in time for the first warm-up match — a friendly against Brazil at the Riverside on July 20.

Although Pearce will have to negotiate Lampard’s release with Chelsea, there is nothing to prevent him from naming the midfielder in his swollen 35-man squad on June 8.

Pearce, who can name three players over the age of 23, will then register an 18-man party, plus four stand-by players, for the tournament on July 6.

The Team GB coach is expected to pick Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs after Sir Alex Ferguson gave permission for him to play.

David Beckham, an ambassador for the Games, is another name in the frame.

But Lampard’s availability, along with age and form factors, arguably make him a better candidate than Beckham.

Pearce insists he will not be influenced by the drive for ticket sales when he makes his final squad announcement, but it will be a big decision to overlook Beckham.

Lampard has club commitments this summer, including a pre-season tour with Chelsea and preparation for the Community Shield against Manchester City at Villa Park on August 12.

That match could be a problem as it comes just a day after the Olympic final at Wembley.

Why not? He's potentially missing one friendly match (Community Shield) to play in a few more.

None of the above 23 players take the Olympics seriously and as far as I know most don't care about the Community Shield either.

Would prefer to have Lampard preparing and working in tandem with the rest of the squad for next season rather than playing in the Olympics and then coming back for the campaign. We have at least 50 games to contend with next season. Need everyone to be fit and fresh for it.

Can not believe there is people on here that don't realise that Lampard is a CAM. Naturally. He's always done it for Chelsea, ok this season he has played further back in CM, fair enough. That's a good thing though because he's proven he's good in CM and can still do the job! He done more than that actually, he even tracked back into defence to help out.

Lampard may have been CAM in the christmas tree/diamond formation that ancelotti had employed but ever since the sunderland(?) game i think in january 2010 he has played in a deeper role at CM. he continued making forward runs until this season when he converted into a deeper midfield role

the point is with juan mata - CAM since december 2011, lampard, benayoun, kdb, hazard - cam for belgium and for lille often enough - all capable of playing CAM we dont need another CAM let alone a foreign converted one.

you have an opinion - voice it, mate. don't get worked up about every post

Wast of time. Since Lampard came, he's always been a CAM. Ok, not now which is fair enough but I still see it as his best position.

We have played 4-3-3 flat for almost a decade, there are no CAM's in that formation.

There have been exception when Lampard played behind the striker, example like when we brought Sheva we tried to play him along Drogba with Lampard behind them. Under Scolari beginning of the season, And also Carlo experimenting the diamond formation with Lampard in the hole.

I can see why you think he is a CAM because of his goals and assists, but he doesn't play behind the striker.

Not always, usually changes between 433, 442 and 41212. Even if it is a 433 he's always in midfield pushing forward, might not be a CAM role in there, but he still plays as a CAM.

You're confusing CAM and a ATTACKING central midfielder. No ones's disputing Lampard wasn't an ATTACKING central midfielder, but he rarely played in the CAM position, otherwise known as the position behind the striker, the position Mata plays.

If you've followed Lampard's CFC career you'll see his trademark is his runs from deep. You can't play the CAM position and start your runs from deep, it's why Lamps was ineffective when he was tried in that position.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Used to think very highly of Lamps, has changed significantly and now everytime i think of him, his comment on television, that he likes RDM because he plays him more than "the other guy" really pisses me off. Even if he said plays him more than "the previous manager" or any other words, its would have been ok.

Even if Frank had a bad relationship with AVB, which he did, to say that on television ..... thats very disrespectful in general and takes away from the classy behavior he shows in years gone by.
