Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea manager, will sign at least one new striker, with Atlético Madrid’s Diego Costa top of his wanted list, and expects at least two of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba to leave. There is also interest in Lukaku from Atlético and Borussia Dortmund.

Mourinho may well be prepared to let Lukaku go if it allows him to sign his transfer targets, having already cashed in on Kevin De Bruyne in January and sold Juan Mata to Manchester United.

But what if the club tells Mourinho that's the only way? Or if Mourinho through his own will see's it as the only way to stay squeaky clean in light of FFP?

In that case we will sell ba, torres, marin, moses, kakuta, mikel, romeu, bertrand, pva, luiz and even one of cech/courtois. Selling a 20 yeal old top striker when you have a striker draught is well not the smartest move. Plus after selling lukaku we would have to buy not one but 2 good strikers as its pretty clear that he is already better than ba and torres. Selling lukaku helps us in no way.

Is there anyone here that would accept selling Lukaku if it was the only way to sign Costa?

If Jose wants to sell Jose then he can and I think most supporters would accept it. He's a very promising young player but he was signed alongside a number of other players who seemed to fit different styles of football. What we have now is a guy who wants his team to play a very specific brand of football and isn't afraid to sell his 'best players' in order to sign those who suit the system better.

If Jose doesn't fancy Lukaku and is happy to sell him (for a considerable profit as well) then I'll trust him.

But I'm fairly certain we have the funds available to buy Costa without making this type of move in the market. His release clause is £32 million. What selling Lukaku might do is enable us to strengthen in other areas like midfield and left-back.

i doubt money is that big of an issue even with FFP and what not. Chelsea can make a killing in wages saved by selling some of the many deadwood didierforever mentioned. also there's eto'o, lampard, cole rumoured to be leaving and all 3 are on sizable wages too. even if only 1 or 2 end up leaving, it will mean atleast a 10m save in wages.

If Lukaku is sold, it will be because Jose doesn't rate him. Not for money

To those claiming Costa burst unto the scene was sudden and only happened this season in Radamel's departure/absence didn't see him carry AM 2nd half of last season or chose to ignore it when Falcao went AWOL after his brilliant start which prompted the then Valencia coach Valverde to suggest that he's a more complete player and has become more valuable to the team than the Colombian. a statement that didn't go down well with many.
