There is no John Terry or Frank Lampard tonight as Andre Villas-Boas rotates his squad.

David Luiz comes into defence for his first football of the season and Florent Malouda will play on the left of midfield.

Fernando Torres replaces Nicolas Anelka in attack and Raul Meireles moves forward to the right of midfield to take the position filled at the weekend by Ramires, suspended from today's game. John Mikel Obi returns to the holding role.

Michael Ballack starts for Bayer Leverkusen.

Chelsea will line-up in the following 4-3-3 formation:

1 Petr Cech

17 Jose Bosingwa

2 Branislav Ivanovic

4 David Luiz

3 Ashley Cole

16 Raul Meireles

12 John Mikel Obi

15 Florent Malouda

23 Daniel Sturridge

9 Fernando Torres

10 Juan Mata

Subs: 40 Hilario, 19 Paulo Ferreira, 33 Alex, 20 Josh McEachran, 8 Frank Lampard, 21 Salomon Kalou, 39 Nicolas Anelka.

Leverkusen are expected to line up in the following (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castro, Toprak, Reinartz,Kadlec; Bender, Rolfes ©; Schürrle, Ballack, Sam; Kiessling.

Subs: Yelldell, Balitsch, Friedrich, Bellarabi, Augusto, Schwaab, Derdiyok.

I have to ask....why is Alex's name not in blue?? :P

It's great to see Ballack starting. He was one of those few players that always give everything they can on the pitch. Always happy to see him.

It's very smart from AVB to practically play 5 in the middle with Bayer's strong midfield. We have a good chance of dominating possession.
