I remember Mourinho alluding to the fact that they surely would have promised to play him as a number 10, now he's being stuck out-wide. Think it was more of a case that he just wants to play and United are able to give him that. And yes, Mata's best position is in the No.10 position but by his own admission, he said he can play in any of the 3 positions behind the ST. He knew moyes was making another panic buy. There is no way mata is useful on the wing after so much failed experiments with us, with no speed and its impossible to put any of rooney or RVP on the bench without quarrel.Mourinho knowing moyes capabilites of a manager made sure his panic buy money was coming to chelsea's pocket to help mourinho fund players he wants. Hardly anyone big moves in January so he did have a say in it. chelsea wasn't the Mata show anymore and Utd were desperate to sign ANYONE so they did and paid way over the top for a player who was not playing.
