Strike 7,489
Why??? He had a good few game stretch. Literally, a stretch of a very good few games as a defensive midfielder but then they stopped and he stopped getting starts not because RDM became manager but because AVB stopped starting him. He also had a bunch of games where he looked completely out of his depth. When you take into account missing a year due to injury, I'd have him way down the depth chart to start. You are massively overrating where he is right now.Maybe I am but I'm under-rating Essien and Lampard's ability more than overrating Romeu. Essien and Lampard can't run the midfield in a week-by-week basis any more. Essien, in particular, should be sold off before dumping Romeu or maybe convert Essien to backup RB. Strike 7,489
If Romeu had started ahead of Lamps last season, we would probably not even play European football. Oriol might have potential, but yet he is still average. NO one knows how he recovers from his injury. Demanding his definite inclusion is just dumb. Not demanding definite inclusion. Obviously Mikel, Ramires and MvG are better currently. Romeu is an actual defensive midfielder and the better of the midfield distributors in our team. I rate him ahead of Essien (definitely) and Lampard (just) I think including Lampard in the midfield-duo requires a pure defensive midfielder alongside him. Lampard-Ramires, Lampard-Ginkel are disasters waiting to happen. Now everyone knows how important Lampard is to the club but he churned out a fair number of average performances last season, especially when picked in the bigger games. Towards the end, he was nothing more than a squad player. Not someone who was picked for the crunch clashes like the Spurs game for eg. But he got a lot of action in midfield due to the lack of depth in that position. OneMoSalah
nyikolajevics 2,700
Super opportunity in a WC year. Wish him all the best.I don't think that he has a chance to get into the World Cup squad. They have Busquets, Javi Martinez or Illarramendi. Too much quality DM-s. Styles
Severinb 309
Hope romeu stays he has shown that he can make it here.. Dont see a point in loaning him out he has a full preseason to impress jose and get his fitness levels up.. He most probably has trained the entire summer. Romeu is more defensive so he has Mikel and probably even Ramires and maybe Luiz ahead of him as the more defensive player in the pivot. Lampard might not be as comfortable in the pivot than Romeu but he's far more effective for the team. Saying Oriol is better for the pivot is just overrating him. He's played alongside Mikel last season. Man United League Cup game and there were a few more i think.he is capable of playing as the DLP. he's played only with Mikel or Ramires alongside him (not entirely sure though)don't think he's ever played with Lampard. hence he's directly competing with LampardTo be fair, there were lot of weird combinations in midfield last season

He hasn't got the divine right to be a starter for us when he's not even better than Lampard, Mikel or Ramires in the pivot.Hes one of the only natural holding midfield players we have. If we are to continue playing 4-2-3-1, he has more a right to start in the pivot than Lampard, Essien, van Ginkel or Luiz, playing without a natural DM has given us problems in midfield. We only have Mikel and Oriol as defensive midfielders, one of the two should start there, with one of Ramires, Lampard, Essien or van Ginkel next to them. If Romeu is going out on loan it's because he's going to a club that will have him in their first team for the majority of their games, something which I don't think will be afforded here, especially if we get someone like Daniel De Rossi. Joe Ay 66
This is a pure speculation, but could it be possibly be that Jose is trying to break-up the Spanish contingent in Chelsea after the well-documented problems he had with the Real Spanish players, i.e. Casillas, Ramos et al? Hence all the rumours of Mata being sold and all? Just saying...

JDY 1,290
Eóin - Valencia News @XimoVCF11mOriol Romeu has joined Valencia on a one year loan deal from Chelsea. Reported by several local media outlets. Good news if true. For him & it might also hint we are getting a new DM ( DDR).
