Pardew hits back at Villas-Boas

The row between Alan Pardew and Andre Villas-Boas has continued after the Newcastle manager accused his Chelsea counterpart of showing a lack of respect.

The two managers have been at odds since Chelsea's controversial 3-0 victory at St James' Park on 3rd December when Pardew was angry that David Luiz was not sent off for fouling Demba Ba when the striker was through on goal with just five minutes on the clock.

But Pardew, determined not to take the criticism lying down, turned the tables back on the Chelsea boss following Newcastle's 4-2 defeat at Norwich, as he said: "When you have a victory, it's nice to be a bit more respectful and a bit more honourable, by just saying, 'well OK we won the game but decisions went our way'.

"That's what I did at Manchester United (where Newcastle earned a draw thanks to a poor decision to award the Magpies a penalty).

"I said it wasn't a penalty, but we accepted it, and I think it would be more honourable of him (Villas-Boas) if he'd accepted that Luiz should have got sent off like the referee did (when he admitted as such after the game)."

Pardew defended his claim that Luiz not being sent off had contributed to the injury of Taylor, who is out for the season with an Achilles injury, before fanning the flames on his conflict with Villas-Boas by aiming more barbs at the Portuguese.

"I was a little bit surprised he reacted like that," Pardew added.

"Steven Taylor put more effort into that game than any other he's played this season. Maybe that was a factor in him getting an Achilles injury? If they had 10 men he might not need to work so hard. That was my point.

"Because we were forcing and pressurising the game there was a factor of that and it's foolish to ignore that.

"But the guy (Villas-Boas) is new to our country, he's new to our press. I think he's under a bit of pressure and I think maybe he could throw a little bit more respect at it."

Here we go. You just knew they wanted this to happen.. Now André will be made to look like the anti-christ on poor, defenceless, Pardew.

"There is only one way to silence your critics – and it’s to win big football matches. Lift a trophy."

I completely agree with this article. Just because Mourinho did it doesnt mean any tom dick and harry could do it. The media will lick his boots to be in his press conference cus he had that aura about him. In his first season he had just one loss, and in 4 tournaments at this time one of which he won in Feb. What has AVB done so far?

I hope he just shuts it because if he loses to Man City, the Media is going to let it rip at him....

Whoever designed the daily star site should be taken into a dark alley and savagely beaten with a metal bar.

Warnie, I agree that AVB should stay quiet, or at least stop venting his anger at the media at every opportunity. But today's premier league is far from the one in Mourinhos day. Add to that the fact that this team is far older, with less desire. It's a tougher job now, and the season is still not over. We may win something.

So, lets start talking after we win something. Media is having a field day with AVB. They Bait and he Bites.

He's now seeing what the English media can do.

I don't really care about most of these stories but the one that really bothers me is the goal celebration one. Because the media have already made a big deal about it and will continue to do so. I have a feeling that this will cause a big problem for us because despite what he's actually said to the players, the media are going to make a fuss every time we score and it's going to linger for a long time.

Warnie is right - if we lose today there is going to be a huge backlash in the media. At first I was enjoying his comments but the stories just kept coming and coming and if results don't go our way it will become worrisome because they can cause disharmony

AVB said that when the players score and turn round, they will see the bench celebrating as much as them.

Yes but the media isn't reporting on this. So whether or not the players acknowledge him during their celebrations, the media will find a way to turn it into a negative against AVB

Isn't it amazing that in a week where he defeated Newcastle 3-0, he defeated Valencia 3-0 and qualified top of his Champions League group (while Man Utd and Man City were eliminated at the group stage) and then ended City's unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory, I browse through the papers this morning to find, what I expected to be AVB tributes as far as the eye can see, and yet I don't see those, infact look at The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Guardian and The Telegraph's websites and you will be hard pressed to find a complimenting word towards AVB on any of those sites. Had Mourinho, Ferguson or (God forbid) Harry Redknapp achieved this we would be overloaded with tales of their genius until we literally started puking compliments about that manager from the ear. Villas Boas didn't get the media darling treatment, what a surprise.

However I do enjoy listening to AVB talk football. At times under other managers there seemed to be a bit of a vagueness about how we were set up, under AVB every detail is accounted for.

Yeah, yeah "I like team X so team X is always cheated by referees" or "media is so biased against team X but not against our rivals Y"

Happens on every teams forum, pretty repetitive that, every group of fans thinking there is an agenda or conspiracy against them. AVB got stick rightly cause because he was a tactical numpty when insisting with the high line. Also cause Chelsea also sack managers quickly, that's why he would always be under more pressure than others, even at same results.

Actually he is right to go in a war against media. The fans can criticize his bad results, but he is absolutely right to say Neville is an asshole when he say Luiz is controlled by a 10 years old boy playing a video game, because thats the kind of comment made by an asshole.

'Villas-Boas should call Kenny Dalglish and ask him about the art of talking to the media when he doesn’t actually enjoy it.'

Dalglish is an awful manager, and because he bought a lot of average british players for huge prices, he's being celebrated by the media around the island. Terry made a stupid mistake in Balotelli goal and Ive read an article saying he was superb in that match and Ivanovic was poor. Lampard scored a penalty and the media is saying he is back to his old form. Ashley Cole is playing bad for too long, honestly since last season I think Ivanovic playing as a right-back add much more impact in our game than the english, but Cole is always rated with 7, 8. The press is full of people that only respect british players and managers.

AVB is right to send them all to hell.
