I think this is a great time for this game. The pressure is on them, they are expected to beat us handily. Combine that with the memories of losses in the CL and losing out on the prem to manure and the squad will not be short on motivation. AVB won't have to work hard to get them up for it! The only thing that concerns me is the mancs sky-high confidence, if they get off to a good start it will be really uphill. I wouldn't feel doomed though if they score first, we beat them last season in such a situation.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas's footballing philosophy

http://www.telegraph...philosophy.html

Very good read!

Finally had a chance to read this after having it on my Read Later list for a month. Fantastic interview with plenty to focus on.

Shame such a small percentage of managers have so interesting interviews. Mourinho's early stuff, Guardiola's analyses and AVB's views are similar in that way.

Credit to AVB. What a man.

1. He did what no Chelsea manager did in a long time. Take the attack to Man Utd on their own pitch. Caught Fergie by surprise and if it wasnt for Torres and Ramirez miss we should have been 2-0 up.

2. His brave tactics were undone by an incompetent linesman and a lucky goal.

3. He had the balls to drop lampard after HT. i mean WTF. When was the last time our manager did that? And immediately, Anelka puts Torres through.

4. Yes Man Utd had chances but they only got them cus we were made to chase the game thanks to stupid refereeing.

5. We absolutely carved them open today. With better finishing we could have had 5 past them. Brilliant football under AVB.

6. AT HT we could have given up and got smashed like Wenger's Arsenal but we took the game to them and should have finished the chances that came our way.

7. Hard Luck, but with this man at the helm, we could achieve great things this season. Just get Drogba and Torres on form.

Agree with the above, AVB is the man. Just worry that we do not have enough players to play the type of football he wants. Mata gets injured and we are fucked....Mierlies, Anelka, Romeu and Mceachran can do a job but our season success all depends on Mata.

Hansen is an ex centre half who played in an era where defenders ruled....the back pass had not even come into effect when he played!!. He is obviously gonna be biased towards defensive football over attacking....If we can give AVB 3 years - imagine what type of players he can bring into the club...

^That's a big if.

So in some sense people are to speculate what Roman will do.

I do hope it's different this time. Cause AVB has brought nothing but positive to the club in a matter of couple of months.

Very Mourinho like, but unlike Mourinho he does not buy a whole new squad, plays good football, and is a gentleman.

If it's true that Roman realized the mistake he made in firing Mourinho, then he should learn that what he got in front of him is more special then the self proclaim special one!

What helps AVB on the sacking front is that;

1. Roman paid 15million for him in the first place, surely he will give him more time than the others.

2. With financial fair play rules coming into effect this season, we simply could not afford to sack AVB, Di Matteo, Holland, The scout guy and the fitness guy.

3. Most importantly - AVB plays the type of football Roman has craved since the beginning and no one (including Mourinho) has been able to bring - attacking, attractive football played the right way.

I'll admit I was against AVB's appointment at the beggining, but he had definatley won me over. I don;t think we will win the league or champs league this season - but with the squad he has created I know I am going to be entertained - I actually look forward now to watching Chelsea play.

True and very good points.

Although i have to mention that we did play good football with Scolari, Hiddink, and Carlo.

But those where unsustainable.. We would only play good for a couple of games, and then go back to predictable football, where our opponents would pick us apart.

If we didn't had Mata, i think AVB team might have fall under that scenario.

But Mata is a such wonderful player, that can make that difference.

Thats spot on about mata - if he gets injured we are in big trouble, because the whole thing will fall down...Mierlies and Anelka can do that role as a fill in but Mata is our most important player by far - we do have another though who could do the job if given a chance - Mcearchan......
