lentherussian 86
I hope im proved wrong but i am starting to fear the worst. firstly im prob gonna sound very negative but never liked ancelotti other then his personality which was very dignified throughout. We won the double but im unsure how good we were that seaon over how bad some of the others were. Any team of chelsea or man utd previous 3/4 years would of wrapped that league up by xmas. (slight exxageration). He tinkered nearly as much as ranieri, 4-4-2 diamond with lampard deep, then change with lamps behind, then 4-3-3, then 4-5-1. Playin torres over drogba against l'pool was suicide and it was a big moment in our season. towards the end he had no idea best partneships at back upfront or middle. I personally dont think hes heart was in it. Now on to AVB, i was pleased we got a hungry manager with hopefully fresh ideas. I didnt buy into the inexperienced argument as he has much more experience then guardiola did when he stepped up to barca. Whats worried me slightly is that he looks like hes froze regards signings, now id always thouht that if your a manger you have players in world football that you rate, and when you get a job like cfc you can pretty much go for anyone and he hasnt. I hope im wrong and hes just confident in youth n what we signed during last year and with ramires beginning to look good with luiz and torres like new signings. But i fear hes scared 2 buy big and be judged on it which shows a lack of real confidence on big stage. Im not running him down because i believe all cfc managers deserve our support but i am beginning to worry. A large percentage of chelsea fans me included think we desperatley need a winger, someone to beat a man, we had robben and duff at our best, even swp was tricky but were not acting that way and i can sense teams parking the bus and grinding us down again. Anyway hope im wrong and loving some of the posts on the forum. Come on the chels.

Waterfall 893
The more press conferences and interviews I watch, the more I think the media will hate him. He always says the right stuff, and only the right stuff.

LDN Blue 7,903
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas's footballing philosophyhttp://www.telegraph...philosophy.htmlVery good read! Thanks for sharing, terrific read:But many players can’t understand the game. They can’t think about or read the game. Things have become too easy for football players: high salaries, a good life, with a maximum of five hours work a day and so they can’t concentrate, can’t think about the game.Me, I’m a 4-3-3 fan, not 4-4-2. I don’t see how a classic 4-4-2 could work in the Spanish league, where every team plays 4-3-3 and the superiority of the midfield has become crucial. What Mourinho did with Chelsea with his 4-3-3 was something never seen before: a dynamic structure, aggressive, with aggressive transitions...and then there is Barca’s 4-3-3, which wouldn’t work in England, because of the higher risk of losing the ball.If you have midfielders like Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard you don’t want your forwards to come and play between lines, because Lampard and Gerrard have a large field of action and very often move in to those spaces.Lampard was often irritated with Didier Drogba because Drogba wanted to receive the ball there but then, amazingly, his first touch was poor, so he lost the ball and we were exposed to a transition from the opponent. So we had to limit Drogba from going there and ask him to play deeper.Excellent analysis & insight. manpe 10,861
Yeah, I just read that article and its interesting. Here is another interesting article. Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas's footballing philosophyhttp://www.telegraph...philosophy.htmlVery good read! Both are very good reads. Thank you. His tactical analyses were interesting, I guess we will see our defensive mids playing more direct game... he's right, up until now they did pass only horisontally. And the opposition provoking, positioning and movement are important too, that's why I have always considered having intelligent players as a major plus for a team... not just one or two, but to be smart collectively and understand what they are doing and to have a purpose in what they are doing.. Some teams are just clueless, and it showed on us too last season at certain periods. But that kind of understanding comes only with time, stability, patience and lots of hard work. steve5221 91
AVB will show us how much steel he has for his next match selection. Will he drop both Kalou and Malouda, as a sign to the others that performances like thiers against Stoke will not be tolerated????
