Really? More people in the entire world watch the world cricket final over the fifa world cup? Not sure about that but I will look into it. However, I have to disagree with the China part, I've been there a couple times and soccer is probably the most watched sport in the country, especially the EPL. Every pub I went to games were always on, the basketball fanbase is there as well but I will have to say a majority of the people there prefers soccer.

Compare the number of people who watch the baseball world cup vs. people who watch the FIFA world cup. End of discussion. Honestly, I see where your getting at but just because soccer isn't a traditional sport in North America doesn't mean its not the most popular sport in the world, and yes I do believe it is popular in countries such as India and China. The sport is heavily marketed in the sport industry in those respective countries. Also, bringing up population numbers aren't very logical in the sense that not every single person watches sports.
