I could go on rambling about this for ages......the Bradford game mentioned in 84 brought it to a head due to the Rangers support making it clear their dislike for the IRA and republicanism who had taken up a bombing campaign in England murdering many innocent civilians. Their chants of "Rule Britannia", etc..went down well with the Chelsea faithfull and as the Rangers fans left the stadium, the road were lined with the Chelsea support who applauded them for their support. Theres a small underlying Loyalist link to the Headhunters and C18, etc....which leads back to the troubles in N.Ireland where Rangers have a massive support when servicemen came up against daily attacks from Republicans who had a well known love for Celtic...Rangers Glasgow rivals. Mixing with the servicemen from N.Ireland they got to know more about the background of the country and with football being a topic of discussion when they had time to relax, a soft spot for Rangers was born.
