The Leeds United manager Dennis Wise will join Newcastle United on Wednesday after the two clubs agreed a compensation package. Wise will take on a £1m-a-year role similar to that of a director of football, which will involve overseeing youth development and player scouting rather than coaching the first team. The decision to approach Wise last week was taken by Newcastle's chairman, Chris Mort, rather than manager Kevin Keegan, who is still looking for a No2 after Alan Shearer chose not to return to St James' Park last week. "Newcastle had approached us for permission to speak with Dennis on Friday and since then things have happened very quickly," read a Leeds statement. "We will always be grateful to Dennis for the way he has turned things around at the club on the playing side and he goes with our best wishes for the future."
http://' target="_blank"> Wise has guided Leeds to fifth place in League One despite the club starting the season with a 15-point penalty. However, he has grown disenchanted with life at Elland Road since his assistant and good friend, Gus Poyet, left to become Juande Ramos's No2 at Tottenham, and is understood to want a change of pace from the day-to-day grind of football management. Indeed Newcastle will allow him to spend just a few days a week on Tyneside, with the rest in London.Wise will officially quit as Leeds manager on Tuesday night following the club's match at Southend United.
