  1. I said that money should go towards a goalkeeper, I'm not saying splash out more than we paid for Pete. I'm not Ramires' biggest fan but should he come he'd certainly have my backing. Personally I think he's overrated and judging from what I've seen of him, he isn't worth such an exorbitant amount of money.
  2. He's not even that good! Nothing on Terry, Alex or Ivan, and I'd certainly rather see Bruma given a chance than see us splash out for defensive COVER.
  3. We should sell him if he thinks he won't ever get in to the squad. That's not the right sort of mentality.
  4. Do we really need him? I'd much rather see Mikel, Essien and Lampard in the midfield and £16 million go towards another goalkeeper.
  5. Just go with the earliest point mate. I started 'following' the Blues in 1997 but never went to my first game until a couple of years later. However in 1997 I was only 4 and I can't remember back that far!
  6. According to this official source... A home-grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21). If that's the case Sturridge counts as homegrown as he has been on City's books for a while. I also think Mikel counts as being homegrown as he turned 21 in the 2008/09 season, as he was born in April 1987, meaning we signed him when he was 19.
  7. I think we can't rule out any player at this stage. Regarding the Aguero/Torres situation, if the money is right both Atlético and Liverpool will surely consider selling. The Spaniards are in a financial mess (reportedly) and Liverpool would be mad to turn down the sort of offers the media are suggesting. Realistically speaking we should be looking at promoting our youngsters before we splash the millions, since so much effort and investment has been injected into the academy set-up. There is no better opportunity than now to let the kids have their chance. But fresh blood certainly needs to be added - as far as I'm concerned a young goalkeeper and a striker to replace Drogba or Anelka, who can compete with Sturridge/di Santo/Borini in the future is all we need.
  8. With certain rules about the number of English players being in squads soon to come into operation its fair to say selling him would be daft.
  9. It would be brilliant if we signed James but I can't see it happening unfortunately. Out of the two I'd go for Turnbull as he is not a bad keeper at all when his confidence is high.
  10. I've just logged into the Admin CP and looked at the member settings for the standard user group. There was a five minute window for editing posts, which I have removed in order for people to edit things such as Prediction League entries and so on. Agreed, we do our best to make sure topic titles abide to the laws of basic grammar at the least, and also edit things to the best of our ability. What we have to be sensitive about is people who are typing in English when it may not be their first language, but we expect a good quality of communication where possible. I quite like the idea of 'fan since' and think it would be a good addition. As far as I know its impossible to remove the member number but its been a long time since I ever looked in to the possibility and that was on a slightly different forum server a while back. I see no problem with adding the category though. Thanks a lot mate, its appreciated.
  11. We do have a problem in my opinion. Until recently I was always very confident in Hilario; despite him being weak at crosses (a trait far too common in Premier League goalkeepers these days) he is an able shot-stopper and very rarely puts a foot wrong. However after the 4-2 home defeat to Manchester City (for which I think he was ultimately at fault for two goals) I am far less assured when I see him between the sticks. Turnbull is a very able young goalkeeper with very little self-confidence. When he played a string of games in response to Cech's injury in February/March last season he didn't play badly at all but when he makes an error it seriously affects him. I noticed that first with a couple of games he played for the reserves. However when he has a run of four or five games his confidence increases and he puts in a good shift - he played well for Middlesbrough for the first half of the 2008/09 season and actually won them a few points; I remember him being brilliant against Liverpool and Arsenal at the Riverside that season. In my honest opinion we need s quality back-up. Yes we have plenty of youthful options but I'm talking first division experience. When Petr had Cudicini as competition he played brilliantly, especially in his first two seasons. You also had the bonus of having the league's second-best goalkeeper as back-up when he was injured. Whilst Cech's not at the same level that he was prior to his head injury, before Carlo left you always felt confident - firstly because Petr would be playing well in order to ensure his place, and secondly because there was world class back-up. You really can't say the same of Hilario or Turnbull. I think we need a back-up goalkeeper, even if its only for a season or two. Hilario's old and will most likely be retiring in a season or two, and he may even leave the club before then. He is a great servant to Chelsea but he is no Carlo Cudicini. We need someone with experience - not necessarily someone young like Asenjo or Hart (both of whom would cost mega-bucks) but someone who's been there, done it and worn the jersey. Someone with experience who can both push Cech and make you feel a little bit more assured when the big man is out.
  12. I know its only a fiver, but its still a piss-take in my opinion.
  13. Stop derailing topics, I've been back four hours and you're already doing my head in.
  14. Haha, well news is my speciality, especially since Sixth Form's over with until early September, so there's no worry me covering that corner. You know I always do my match reports as well, so I'll get back on track with those from Frankfurt onwards.
  15. I think it was the right decision. We risked having him injured for much, much longer considering the amount of games he played through injury last term.
  16. I quite like the away kit... nothing quite as visually-scarring as past attempts.
  17. Why the fuck do you people care about his shirt number? Lampard could wear 78 and Cech could have 9 and I wouldn't give a shit.
  18. Someone's pissed about the Dutch knocking Brazil out
  19. If Alves joins I'll have lost all faith in the club's executives.
  20. Puma make some freaking nice kits. Love that keeper kit.
  21. Hugely surprising in my opinion - I'd have imagined it would have leaked by now.
