Yeah, don't understand how this hasn't sold out. It's a European semi-final ffs.

Porto must despise us for prizing away every major talent they've produced in the last nine years! Because it's us, we can assume another £10m will be stuck on the asking price.
-
Well, it's all gone a bit quiet on this front, hasn't it? One hopes that is because the club are, for once, being professional and will not announce the transfer until after the completion of the Bundesliga campaign.

See, this is what makes me laugh. I get criticised for defending squad players like Moses, who in the eyes of so many Chelsea supporters, just isn't "good enough". Chico is a good defender who has had a decent season. He is another of Laudrup's excellent signings, so kudos to the Dane for bringing him to the Premier League. However, if we are going to get critical over solid homegrown players like Gary Cahill and Victor Moses but then suggest to bring in players who probably aren't even of that calibre, then I really don't know what to say. The bottom line is he is a solid player, but nothing more. Even a half-fit John Terry is a better option, in my view. I look at our four centre-backs and I wouldn't replace any of them with Chico.

They will come out and attack, enabling us to utilise our main strength which is the counter-attack, granting Torres the space he needs to run in behind. I fancy him to score a couple. We just need to keep it tight for the first 20 minutes (which is why I am suggesting Mikel-Rambo in the DP) before we go on the attack.

Arsenal and Spurs should be getting 9/9 points from those fixtures. We HAVE to beat Spurs and get at least six points from the other three games.

Cech Ferreira - Cahill - Ivanovic - Bertrand Mikel - Lampard © Benayoun - Oscar - Moses Torres Do it, Rafa.

In all seriousness... Michael Essien.

Blatant red card!

Will we need to finish third to qualify for the UCL?
BlueLion. replied to oxfordblues's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Will apply from next season onwards if it is true, but I am sure the top three leagues have three automatic qualifiers and a fourth that must proceed to the third round of qualifying. -
This club's management team can well and truly fuck off. All the subtlety of a fucking chainsaw.

Precisely. And he will only improve playing with good players, and with age comes maturity also. People need to think back to when we were a truly brilliant side, between 2004-2008. Did we have world class players on the bench? In part, yes, but we also had good, versatile squad players like Diarra, Tiago, Smertin, Gudjohnsen, etc., who all did an excellent job for the team without doing anything spectacular.

Absolute hero. Totally in love with him.

The Suarez biteSturridge still being on the pitch despite his two-footer on Berty.SIX minutes of stoppage time? The "penalty" against Basel yesterday. The "penalty" against Bucharest.Aguero's stamp on Luiz.Chicarito's offside goal.Torres sent off for diving - clear second yellow for Evans. They are just isolated incidents I can think of from this season alone.

Absolutely agreed. He learnt well in Merseyside.

Cole had a very good game. I'll grant you that. But, for my money, inconsistency has become a key issue for him. It can't help when you're in and out of the team on a rotational basis (and you do have to take into account our full-backs have never been more exposed thanks to our new system), but there have been games where he has been absolutely ripped to pieces by faster, more skilful players. I think Ashley still has a role to play at this club, but I think we are starting to see the first signs of age creaking into his play. Of course he isn't as athletic as he might be, as he's an old codger now. But this is something we definitely have to take into account. There is a list longer than we'd like to admit of players who have skipped past him this season - Franco di Santo included. That, for me, is a worry. But as for last night, he looked a little bit more like the player we saw last year.

I think this is the only signing we need in an attacking sense. I would like to see an attacking box-to-box midfielder come in, perhaps someone in the Fellaini mould, as I think we have struggled in a combative sense in the middle of the park this season. We used to be able to bully any team in Europe and now with Mata, Oscar and Hazard our main attacking players and Drogba having left and Terry, Ballack, Essien, Lampard all either long-gone or on the fringes we have few physical players in our team besides Ivanovic and Luiz. That would be somewhere I would focus on. But in an attacking sense, I think we are set. I would like to see Kevin de Bruyne stay as I think he could do a good job as a utility player for us. But if we are to retain the 4-2-3-1, we have personnel who can play different roles on a rotational basis: Centre-forward: Torres, Ba, Lukaku. As an alternative you will then have Moses and Schurrle who are capable of playing as the lone frontman. That is five strikers - three more than we've had this season. That instantly means firepower on the bench.Playmaker/number 10: Mata, Hazard, Oscar. Wide players: Mata, Hazard, Moses, Schurlle. Bertrand, Ramires and Oscar can all do a job on the wing, also. That would be a pretty complete attacking squad in my view.

Good post. I agree for the most part. What you get with Luiz is drive and determination to come forward and force the issue. He has since learned to be a little less temperamental, but he still has the ability to surge forward 50 yards and begin an attack from his forward-thinking. When he is in midfield he has licence to do that more, and it helps create opportunities, especially when you have a pretty lethargic midfield pairing (for example Mikel and Lampard, who are hardly the most mobile). My suggestion would be only to play Luiz in the midfield position when we are chasing the game (bringing on Cahill for Mikel in a match would allow Gary to go in at centre-back and Luiz to play in the midfield; there would be a simple change in personnel but an instant significant shift in ideology in the midfield area) or against low-quality opposition (such as against Leeds, when he did a very good job there with several other midfield players out with injury). I personally think he has come on leaps and bounds this season as a defender. For me, he has been our most consistent defensive player, better even than Azpilicueta. He is a centre-back and should stay there, in my opinion. He is a great footballer, yes, but he reads the play excellently and has got us out of many a sticky situation this season, in my opinion.
-
I don't see any harm in keeping him. He isn't taking any space up in the squad, and he would be a decent third-choice keeper to have in the side should Courtois come back.
-
Would you like him if he was Ghanaian?
-
His hair is horrific He's English, and thus over-rated. His hair. Very sloppy at times.

Totally dominated the game tonight. Luiz' free-kick was justice as fa as I am concerned. That "penalty" decision was laughable! Moses my man of the match for a tireless performance and a well-taken goal, credit where it is due. He had hardly any time to react, but he did so brilliantly.
