Just found out I'm working when this game is on. Sorry to break it to you, but we never win when I'm at work. Better luck next year boys!
-
I'LL KEEP THIS OPEN A FURTHER DAY TO ALLOW A FEW MORE NOMINATIONS. Closing after the game tomorrow.

I don't think you can legislate for Emmanuel Adebayor doing the first positive thing in a Spurs shirt for nigh-on a year and scoring from 25 yards like that.
-
^ can't really blame me after yesterday though. I thought Spurs were subdued, and quite poor, for 80 minutes yesterday. Then Gylfi scored and they were all over us. We had a real chance to win yesterday and secure UCL qualification. Instead we seem intent on doing it the Chelsea FC way - AKA the hard way.
-
Despite being a fan of Moses, I have to say Rafa made exactly the wrong sub yesterday. If he was going to bring Moses on, it should have been for Torres, and to have played with a false number 9. I don't see any sense in bringing Moses on in that sort of situation.
-
Yep. Proving my (relatively simplistic, but accurate) thesis correct!
-
No, I'm not. I'm saying that we already play without a striker. Our midfield is totally ignorant of Torres' hard work and runs into space, you can forgive his lethargy on the one occasion in 20 the correct ball is played to him.
-
^ his record against Villa and Everton is absolutely magnificent: *Now obsolete - the record is now 53.
-
^ it was Kyle Walker! Who is so ridiculously over-rated. Shows how desperate England need a RB when he is playing for our national team. I've had shits that would be more effective than him.
-
So people don't want to sign the homegrown Rooney, 27, for £30 million with a proven EPL record as he is too old. Instead, people want to sign an overseas Falcao, 27, for £40 million+ (and knowing how this club is run, that would also see Courtois fuck off for good) who is totally unproven at Premier League and Champions League level. Okay.

I don't think we'll win. History and the greater desire to win (it would seem, judging from the gutless attitude of some of the players yesterday) belongs to Villa. Our record at Villa Park is horrific. Lambert has been using the 8-0 as motivation for his players and they will definitely have a point to prove. They are also in great form at this moment; a totally different beast we beat by that fluke score in December. I think a draw is the best we'll get from this. Hope I'm wrong. It's laughable how people are so ignorant and arrogant to assume "we'll thrash them". Not a chance. If we win, it will be a cagey 1-0. But a draw is far more likely than that, and I can even see Villa doing us here.
-
No idea why he didn't come on in the second half. We were losing the midfield, so you need someone to calm it down, ie. Mikel or Lampard. Instead Rafa keeps on the two most volatile midfielders in our squad (Luiz and Ramires) and brings on someone who is as useful as nipples on a breastplate.
-
Totally agree with Steve. People are frustrated and they are reverting to the usual scapegoats. No Mikel tonight, so it's Torres' turn again. I personally thought he played quite well. So many excellent runs. It isn't his fault we don't have anyone who is a consistent passer. So many chances where simple through-balls down the channels would have sent him free to send the cross in. Instead, Hazard/Mata/Oscar play inside to Luiz or Ramires constantly. Must be very frustrating for Torres. The proof we can't play with a striker is the fact that last season Drogba did all the leg-work himself to score his brilliant goals, whilst even Ba this season has also struggled.
-
He had a poor game by his recent standards, yes, but you have to realise he was playing Spurs, rather than Basel. Spurs have a very dynamic midfield and it is difficult to keep tabs on individual players. You don't just watch for Bale, but you have to starve Holtby of possession as he is their little creative maestro, the same way you devoid Lennon of space to exploit and you close down Huddlestone and Parker down quickly because they panic when under pressure on occasion. That's a lot of work for one guy. Personally I think yesterday's game was set up perfectly for Mikel, but sadly with his injury, Luiz is the next best option we have there.
-
^ absolutely agreed. He is an old geezer now, so he needs a rest between games. It's the refractory period!
-
Cech Azpi - Luiz - Terry - Cole Ramires Hazard - Mata - Oscar Rooney - Ba Anyone else have an erection right now?

Does anyone else feel absolutely disconsolate this morning? That was our chance to secure Champions League football. Instead we have to win one - if not both, we want to win third, don't we? - of two fixtures against a side we hardly ever beat away (Villa) and a team we only seem to be able to draw against at Stamford Bridge (Everton). I have an incredibly bad feeling about the end of this season.
-
He deserved credit on Sunday for how we handled the United game; his tactics were spot on. But I think his substitutions yesterday were clueless. We needed to bring someone on to control the game - so instead of bringing on the captain to help the defence or bringing Lampard on to secure the midfield, he brings on Benayoun.

Imagine if his last kick was a penalty in the final against Benfica? Written in the stars? Again? Lightning can strike twice...

I would much rather Arsenal finish in the top four. They're shit, and Wenger won't spend because his bosses are still paying off the £300-odd million they owe for that shiny stadium of their's. Plus, historically speaking, Arsenal are a fantastic club with a rich history that deserves to be playing football against great teams on the highest stage. Spurs are a one-man team - without Bale they are mid-table at best - with more jam than Hartley's.

I can't be arsed going through 86 pages to find my various posts in this thread, but I for one have made it quite clear I would prefer Cavani as he would suit Chelsea more than Falcao would, in my view.

Is that a bad thing?
