Digne isnt any better than Alonso IMO and the last 12 months is proof of that. Also Theo Hernandez? Are people serious? We aren’t buying another starting quality LB when Chilwell was in the form of his career and also cost £50m prior to his injury. I mean I get a strong squad but barring the chance that lightning strikes twice and Chilwell were to get this sort of injury again - the logic behind this transfer is odd (although a better back up who is younger, good enough to play and an improvement on Alonso? Makes more sense) Also the thinking of the so called medical experts who went from saying ‘its maybe not that bad and Chilwell could be back playing in January without surgery’ who are now changing their tune to ‘he will never be the same player’…… odd. Just seems very knee jerk but that is sometimes the reaction on here. Even the Reece James situation with Hakimi in the summer, its different and how people can’t see this and think the scenarios are the same is frustrating. For me, it is clear that TT sees Azpilicueta as a RCB much much more than a wingback so it made perfect sense to pursue another RWB/right fullback. If we had signed Hakimi we wouldn’t have seen Azpilicueta at RWB once this season barring an injury crisis. Probably because we have looked at trying to get Emerson or Maatsen back considering Tuchel values Alonso and in all honesty, we only needs a back up for the best part of half a season. Or rather than panicking in January and simply pursuing options that aren’t good enough/are likely to be bad deals long term because clubs will think we are desperate (ie Digne for 25-30m which is reportedly their asking price).

The 3 words Chelsea fans hate to hear on commentary ‘Timo Werner…. Offside’ Didnt really need to force the issue second half, managed the game well despite Spurs having 10 minutes where they played much better.
-
Well would you look at that, two big games and currently, 135 minutes of us playing at a very good level….. Lets hope we can get another one or two to really cement our position in this tie and well because so far Spurs look very timid and lightweight (because we are hungrier and first to everything) so why not kill the tie?
-
Have to admit, Saul and Sarr both look very comfortable so far. Was a bit concerned but so far so good.
-
Strange team shape in all honesty, surprised we’ve gone with a back 4 - only second time under TT IIRC he tried it v Bristol last season and changed it at HT because we were absolutely piss poor.
-
I think its also a clear sign of Tuchel’s evolution from his time at Dortmund and PSG too. Maybe I am wrong but I feel he may have been a bit more rash if this happened in the past at his other clubs, he looks as if he’s re-evaluated it all and come on leaps and bounds in that side. We have also seen Conte’s reaction to Costa’s interview with ESPN Brazil (IIRC) or maybe it was AS/Marca where he said the club treated him like criminal and Conte‘s reaction was combustible or more likely to cause an upset compared to how TT has dealt with it. I genuinely believe this scenario and the performance over the last 12 months is proof that this is the best Tuchel in terms of his management skills on and off the field. It also helps that the group and the club are clearly 100% fully behind him.

Digne be a decent signing for Newcastle to be fair. More his level. Plus their LB is Paul Dummet. Who is terrible. Really don’t get the Barkley links, I mean well I get it (big money to spend and an overrated English player who could have his career saved under an overrated English manager) but I don’t see what he offers them when they’ve already got midfield players who show flashes and are so inconsistent. Plus did Eddie Howe not learn anything from when he loaned in Jack Wilshere at Bournemouth? Wasn’t exactly successful. If they offer anything over 10m for him on a perm deal, we should bite their hands off.

I don’t think it will be in any doubt, the board have made mistakes before but I don’t think anyone would be so stupid to back Lukaku over Tuchel. But at the same time, I think Tuchel may leave the door open for Rom to get back into the group pretty swiftly though if he apologises sufficiently enough that he, the players and also certain club personnel accept it and he then proceeds to gets with the programme. I do think the situation will be re-evaluated in the summer due to the nature of the comments but I also think Tuchel wouldn’t be stupid to completely write off someone who may have some use to him throughout the second half of the season. I mean he kept and has brought guys like Ruben and Ross in from the cold at the beginning of the season when others wouldn’t have because we’ve needed numbers/he’s seen they can maybe offer something so I don’t think Rom is going to be completely shunned up to the summer or sold this month.

Fuck me, Paulo Di Canio the man who declared himself a fascist, speaking sense? Must be a first….
-
Sure would of been but Christensen was at home. He had a back problem which is why he came off the other game v Brighton. Sarr was only natural CB on bench, I did expect CHO to go on for Trevor and go RWB though with Azpi at RCB so was surprised when Pulisic went there instead as he had been causing them trouble inside.

Thats twice now in the games v Liverpool this season where we’ve dug out results when people wouldn’t of probably anticipated us to based on the circumstances. Felt a bit like the City game last season where we scored that last minute winner at the Etihad (barring the fact we didn’t take the 3 points today) although again, our performance on that day, we deserved to win. Today just felt similar. For me the mentality, the standards, the difference from under Frank now is enormous and so clear. This is why I find it so frustrating when people thought on here pre match we would get absolutely shafted or we could struggle to make top 4 if we didn’t get something today or even when we got it back to 2-2, we could fuck it up still etc. Our performances in the big PL games this season have generally been good barring United and Man City. I think its more because we changed from a 343 to a 352. Not having Pulisic free inside to drift and run into those inside pockets as opposed to being fixed at RWB didn’t help but all in all, I don’t think Jorginho really helped or hindered us either way but his introduction was necessary because of Trevor.
-
Wheres the we will be lucky to make top 4 brigade now 🤣 Honestly, the performance was pretty good. Much better than most probably would of expected and really with a bit more quality in the top end of the pitch, we would probably of got the third. Mendy made some big saves also but you need that in big games.
-
Was very disappointed with Kovacic last game but he has been very good most of the game. Some of his touches tonight particularly that last couple there, Zidane esque and then the goal.
-
Jorginho coming on for Trevor, 352?
-
Really? Why? Kovacic has grew into the game and Kante has been, well, Kante. So unless my stream is behind? Why? They’re bringing on 2 CMs so we can’t be doing that bad.
-
Chalobah v lucky there stepping up too much, offside anyway but Azpi fantastic covering in on Mane.
-
For fuck sake it is used to check every goal 🤣 I mean it is the same in the PL and every other league that uses it’s rules but yeah sure they don’t use it for Man United… Thats not to say the guys using it are competent but to say its not used is a sheer tin hat conspiracy.
-
Also what is the crack with this “we may have got it back to 2-2 but we will lose” posts/similar line of thinking all over this thread? Jesus I swear some of yous just want us to lose for the sake of something to moan about 🤣 The boys just showed that we can definitely do more than just draw with this mob. The performance wasn’t even bad or deserved of being 2-0 down and now its 2-2 you’d think we were lucky reading some of the posts…. Said it at the start of the game, we are more than good enough to get something, that something hopefully will be 3 points because we’ve done the hard bit getting back into it from 2-0 down, not many teams do that v Liverpool.
-
They check every goal….. every single goal… some just take longer than others
-
They use VAR on every goal. They have done since it came in.
-
Well we’ve just scored there so here we go now. As I said earlier the performance hasnt been that bad, we started pretty good actually. Just needed Pulisic to score or another goal to cement our start in the game but now we’re right back in it with that goal.
-
We’re still playing much better than in recent weeks but you give two goals away like we have, you’re always going to be up against it. If Pulisic scored the game would be much much different. Even if we score before HT
-
There are always people who severely overreact even if we are playing pretty well but aren’t 8-0 up or whatever by minute 20…. Its baffling
-
Lol jesus
-
Fuck had to take that chance. Far too obvious what he was going for.
