Need the first goal to kill this crowd off. Every time they get a foul, a freekick, a tackle etc their fans get going. A goal would kill this…. Some save Mendy after poor attempt to get the corner.
-
But in a possession based team, traditionally, if your number 6 is of the ilk that the likes of a Jorginho, Busquets, de Jong (at Ajax) are then 9 times out of 10, they drop into the space between the two central defenders or in the zone just in front of them when the teams in possession as most modern day CBs go out wider and play higher. So you’ve still basically got 343.
-
Jesus Christ really On that chance - should of been a corner anyway, but usual from our attackers, indecisiveness when it matters. Just had to put it across the 6 yard box there at pace.
-
De Jong would be a upgrade on Jorginho as well as a huge asset in the long term IMO. Much much more athletic and has all the other technical aspects you’d expect from a potential great Dutch midfielder player. Throw in his versatility too having played as a CB, a 6 and an 8 in various games for Ajax, Barca and Holland. Ok hasn’t worked great at Barcelona but he hasn’t exactly been poor either. Plus he’s played as a more advanced MFer as opposed to the role he’s better suited - where Busquets plays - and in a struggling Barcelona team.
-
Are you ever happy? 😂
-
Tbf signing De Jong, another CB and another attacker would be a pretty impressive window. Depending on who those other 2 were to be, it could be an incredible window to be fair. Thats not even taking into consideration sales. Levi Colwill going to Brighton on loan as well is also a massive coup as opposed to on a permanent deal. On Redknapp and De Jong thing - he’s not saying anything that hasn’t already been reported. If FdJ leaves Barca he wants his deferred wages paid, to go to a CL team and he apparently appreciates the idea of living in London much more than Manchester….. so aye wouldn’t say that Redknapp's letting a top top top secret bit of information slip.
-
I think he will need some time to adapt, clearly he has a good skillset and ability but I think the jump in quality and teams sitting in against us most weeks as well as looking to punish spaces that the likes of him and James will leave trying to get forward, it will maybe take him a bit of time to hit that level he was for Brighton at times. Good signing either way.
-
Ah fuck. Was that the 1-1 game? Where he assisted Welbeck?
-
I see. What game was that?
-
Until he signs who knows where he will play. Surely he has to be competition for Chilwell as well as Alonso’s replacement first and foremost. Never even heard of him playing as a CB so where this notions come from is baffling. Signing him and then chasing another CB indicates he wont be playing as a CB I would of thought…..
-
Same was said for Chalobah last season. Regardless, I do think Tuchel is the sort of manager brave enough to find out how good or how ready Carney is. Plus based on how the other signings have gone, Tuchel 100% has signed off on this. Also another move that shows promising signs from Todd Boehly and his ownership, not just after ready made players who are the complete package/can make an impact in terms of off the pitch also but young, homegrown talent who can make a long term impact. I’m sure at the Dodgers he has had made significant investment in young talent that has come to fruition in their team and its success.
-
Big season needed. If he doesn’t show anything of note this season I think he will be getting the Timo Werner treatment - benched, a lot. Although basically 75% of our attackers since well depends how far back you want to go, could all have got the same treatment.
-
Good to see people who have complained about us not having proper backup/competition for Chilwell and Reece James for maybe 2 seasons are now complaining because we are looking at signing some decent backup/competition for these players (although hopefully not KWP). I mean we are likely going to be letting Alonso and Azpilicueta go (apparently if we can replace them they are free to go), do yous want us to have no back up RB/RWB and LB/LWB? This whole speculation “oh we’ve spent this or will spend this on defenders” or “the budget this, the budget that”, those discussions are pointless unless any of you are Todd Boehly or anyone else involved with the ownership 😂 who knows how much we will spend this summer? I mean first folk complained we didn’t sign anybody for however long, now its we are potentially buying too much defenders… what next, we haven’t signed another attacker? Or central midfielder? Or that we haven’t moved to a new stadium? Or don’t have a kit deal with brand X Y or Z? Fucking hell, cheer up, I for one am incredibly optimistic that we will be seeing a few more faces in the door yet. I don’t think the new owners are going to just replace what we’ve lost, I get the feeling there will be a few upgrades on certain players also.
-
Before the video cuts off “and listen, anything you need” even more proof that JT, regardless of whays happened in the past, is still a top bloke. Pity we couldn’t get JT in an actual coaching position as opposed to this consultancy role he has though.
-
Whilst Skriniar is a top player, he struggled immensely on the ball under Conte in a back 3 as a wide centre back.
-
Any word on anyone signing him yet? I’ve seen his and TT’s comments recently, if he feels unhappy maybe he should go back to Germany, be a big fish in a small pond playing for RB Leipzig again, because I don’t see him fitting at any top clubs either. There's been rumours and mumblings of him being unhappy and moaning but really, he has no right to be demanding more playing time based off 75% of his Chelsea career. cut ties get rid of him
-
Needs to start adding that killer instinct to his game. Like this season is the one where he really has to. Gets into the positions and has everything else but just not clinical enough. Can keep saying perceive with him etc as he gives X, Y and Z but now City and Liverpool have went and brought in proper CFs, who will score goals and with that, it feels like this season will be even harder to close any gap without a proper CF who suits this team.

A lot of players who just thought they could half arse it second half and that it wouldn’t matter because we are Chelsea and they are some American team.

Opinion: Chelsea need to sign an ST if Broja goes
OneMoSalah replied to James's topic in Chelsea Articles
Seen the headline/title. Wow 🤣 We need to sign some sort of striker regardless of if Broja stays or goes. Just has to be the right fit. Jesus Christ. What actually goes on in this Simon Phillips guys head? Not much evidently. -
Genuinely excited to see him get going here. Think this is not only a top signing but a very smart signing. Particularly for the first under our new owners (despite the constant greeting and moping on here because we hadn’t signed anyone, which is now why haven’t we signed at least 873 CBs now……). He is someone who is a winner, proven at the top level in the PL, coming into his best years as well as having big game experience and, more importantly when you look at some of the other attackers we’ve gotten in recent times, mentally tough. Personally, I think he will also be itching to show Pep and City that he should of played more there and what their missing.
-
maybe a bit behind but how is it difficult to understand? I mean to say there were so many high quality options out there? Where have this wealth of top class CBs come from? And even then realistically bar de Ligt and now in turn Koulibaly, what other top CBs are actually attainable/available? de Ligt, Skinriar, Bastoni and Koulibaly are the only top level CBs I’ve read or seen actually linked/talks made with clubs this summer. Thats 4. Is 4 a lot?
-
700k a week 🤣 no he wasn’t, not even Ronaldo was on that
-
True but I think he’s a good bit below what we need quality wise if he’s going to be a starter.
-
Considering the Ake move, like the majority of the others this window with substance, are being driven more by Tuchel (talk he is a fan and wanted him at Dortmund), I would say any criticism should be pointed more to the manager himself than Boehly, seeing as he is getting the definitive final say. Maybe it is not a good look for Boehly but if its Ake TT wants then what can he do? I mean people moaned that we don’t/didn’t back managers, now we are linked with a player TT reportedly wants (I don’t think he’s good enough either as a starter) its a bad look?
-
Well tbf between him, Ziyech or Werner as long as they are shifted we shouldn’t really be bothered what order. They are not good enough.
