🤣 True. Regarding Eden a good send off, unfortunately for us he will be hard to replace but weve said the same about other players before. I really think if Sarri stays he will theow Callum in to his position when hes back fit.
-
Based on what? We sacked Scolari, Villas-Boas and Di Matteo who all won more in their careers than Lampard has in their first seasons (RDM lasted 6 months as full time manager after winning a CL and FA cup). Do folk expect the club to change their tune for an ex player? Cmon man, dont be silly.... Villas-Boas wasnt going to be sacked in his first year too and someone at the club said they seen him as someone who could be at Chelsea for 15 years after like 4 weeks. What the club says and what they do are two totally different things. Also, I wouldnt care if it were Sarri, Lampard, Pep or Klopp but finishing bottom half would be unacceptable regardless so to make that statement is ridiculous. If Lampard comes in he will get the same leeway as every other manager has. Ex player or not.
-
Id hope it is this. This guy has played at 2 of the biggest clubs in the world in Real and Juve, who had leaders like Ramos, Varane, Casillas, Ronaldo, Buffon, Bonucci, Chiellini, Marchisio etc where if the standards and demands arent up to where they should be you could imagine them chasing folk and being aggressive because of the demands at these sort of clubs. If it is that, I am not surprised that someone is getting into some of the teams faces, some of them need it desperately.
-
For all Marina faults, demanding 130m and if she sticks to it, it is fair play to her. 1 year left or not, if Perez really wants him as mentioned above, he should pay the fee we want. £130M is not exactly extortionate in todays market for a player of that calibre. They wait another year and they get him free but at 29 years old.
-
Haha yeah imagine. Think he will be the main man up top for them regardless of who takes charge.
-
Wouldnt blame him either. Or any manager. Lets be honest clearly him and a large portion of fans arent exactly on the same page. Plus Juventus is an incredible opportunity for most managers, never mind someone who was perhaps going to lose his job 5 months ago. Maybe 10 years ago managers wouldnt consider it compared to us but theyve grown into one of the top top 5 teams in Europe for me over the last 5 years while we have yoyo'd and are quiet honestly in a bit of a mess behind the scenes although poor recruitment has held us back too. Juve though, great team, very good recruitment and fundamentally excellently run (which we cant exactly say happens here). If we had their footballing men in behind the scenes wed be 10 times better off, look at some of their signings in past seasons: Vidal, Pjanic, Ronaldo, Dybala, Costa, Alex Sandro, Matiudi, Joao Cancelo, Higuain, Bentacur, Pirlo, Bernardeschi, Pogba, Morata, Coman, Tevez. High calibre, hugely successful and other than Ronaldo and Higuain who cost like 80m and upwards the rest werent exactly huge massive fees. Having that sort of shrewd footballing people involved with the club is a massive massibe plus to any manager at any club.
-
And when we had a bad spell werent people on here not slagging Sarri off? Cant work one way for those teams and not for us... Biesla is a better manager in my eyes, didnt have the greatesr spells in the last few years which I am surprised about considering how well he did with Bilbao. Still shocked he hasnt got another chance at a bigger club considering how highly he is regarded. A real engima although he is a fiery character as shown as Lille and Lazio. No manager is instantly going to come in and drop 5 older players for 5 youngsters if that is what people are expecting or hoping for. Theres too much pressure here, it must be intense for a manager where every season the club most likely expects a trophy and league finish of 3rd or above, having sacked managers for finishing 2nd as well or for winning a trophy still. Yes we have young players we need to integrate but its it will never happen here like it does at an Ajax or whoever else. Yet again a new manager opens up chances for the likes of Luiz (as proved with Sarri), Alonso, Willian, Pedro to all have another chance to impress instead of being phased out or moved on.
-
That is exactly what Sarri has done here, although for a majority its not good enough or merely enough to maintain his job... so if it isnt good enough for Sarri in somes eyes why is it good enough to say about Lampard? Different clubs and different capacities but undoubtedly it will be mentioned by some regarding Lampard as a potential appointment. Looking at Derby's season, theyve finished 6th with 1 point less than when they finished 6th last season under Gary Rowett and have a worse goal difference. Some people have said on social media it was good season, some bad, some feel because Frank Lampard is Frank Lampard and the fact they made the playoff final the seasons being looked at in a more positive note but its fair point to argue they arent much better off than last season and considering Mount and Wilsom who contributed to 40 goals between them will not be returning its fair to say they might not.manage as well next year considering a large bulk of their squad are aging as well. This lowering the age shit is also a double ended sword, Mount, Timori and Harry Wilson, all under 23 and featured almost every week, arent actually on the books of Derby County they are loan players like aluded to above. The likes of Scott Carson, Craig Byrson, Richard Keown, Tom Huddlestone, Bradley Johnston, David Nugent, among others, all made regular amounts of apperances and are all about 30 year old or above. The only actual kid from the Derby academy Frank gave regular minutes to was Jayden Bogle, who did make a tonne of appearances for a 17/18 year old. I get the wage cut and perhaps hes done well for them not to drop off completely but to say that he has done remarkably well is a huge overstatement I think. If he got them promoted, yes, you could say he did well but he didnt and from someone who doesnt like the playoff format of the championship as it is (finishing 4th, 5th or 6th and getting the chance to gain promotion is ridiclous) take that away would you say finishing 6th is really that good? I think if he manages to better that next season, without Mount, without Wilson, he will have done a pretty remarkable job because you cannot doubt how key they have been to Derby this season. The boy Wilson was a real breakthrough for them this season and can definitely play at a higher level. Mount perhaps as well, like has been mentioned Leipzig among others sniffing around but remains to be seen. Maybe Villa might fancy a punt on him next season?
-
Was never in doubt considering all he has done is speak about Real Madrid when asked about moving.... suppose any quote can be turned into an article these days, regardless of how true or untrue it is lol.
-
Great move for him. wasn't sure hed cut it when he went there but he has been consistent and proven himself. Fair play to the guy and now hes getting a good move where he can kick on. Probably miles better than Zappacosta.
-
What about Derbys spell this season where they were poor as well and dropped points? Do people honestly think Lampard would take over at get better than a 3rd place finish and 2 cup finals? Even which for a poor season with a lot of rumours regarding Sarri getting sacked, at least we got over the line... I know you dont like Sarri and many others dont but to replace him with Lampard next season would be incredibly risky and a mistake. Derby only finished 6th. Yes they got the play offs but 6th in the championship, considering the fact he spent 9m on Waghorn, signed Mount and Wilson on loan(very good calibre for the championship), has the likes of Huddlestone, Carson, Olsson guys with PL experience... you could argue the likes of Biesla or any other manager with those resources would have gotten a higher finish than 6th. If Sarri goes, which is looking more and more likely each day, Allegri has to be the top choice although he will have many offers. Very good record, expeirence managing big players at Juventus and AC Milan and which should be a massive appeal to this club a winner with both. Yes 2 league cup games but a lot of championship teams give PL teams tough games in them. Remember we lost to Bradford City years ago? Does that mean their manager would be a good fit? No. David Wagner got promoted with Huddersfield, would he of been good enough? No. Is the bloke who got Villa promoted good enough? No... If we had any other manager than Sarri you'd disagree regarding Lamps. I also dont see Lampard coming in and playing youth regularly which people are making a case for again (Tomori and Mount maybe good enough for Derby every week but if people are under the impression theyd manage to be regulars next season, for the love of god, squad players maybe but again squad players dont necessarily feature thst often). For all Sarris faults he used Christensen, RLC and Callum this season - yes not a lot early doors but they made more appearances than most other academy products have here in god knows how long. They are at a much better level than Mount and Tomori to play. Reece James is probably more ready and more mature than those 2 to be integrated into the Chelsea squad despite playing for Wigan, who were at the other end of the table. Even Tammy has a much better chance next year. Lampard (even Gerrard for Liverpool in the future), yes he will hopefully manage us at some point and Id be all for it based on if hes proven himself in some capacity as a manager but next season, that not far too soon? And when we probably only finish 3rd or 4th next year again? Or maybe worse with the transfer ban and Spurs, Arsenal all strengthening? You would think Lampard had done a Jose and won the CL with Porto or done a Pep and won countless trophies with Barca.... And theres no such thing as anybody being anti Lampard but there is definitely an anti Sarri agenda.... has been for months. If Sarri goes, considering the shit we have here, transfer ban, losing key players, we need someone with good experience to build us back up. Lampard would be out of his depth.
-
Well he isnt but again, there would be more faith from me if his team had at least shown up in their biggest game of the season. He isnt ready and should be appointed on merits as a manager, not as an ex player. Big games have veen our Achilles heel this season as well and other than the game vs Leeds from what I have seen of Derby, if we played like that against big teams many people wouldnt be happy.
-
Well if we get Frank and our team show up like his lot have today in arguably their biggest game in years, I would be extremely disappointed considering our big gane performances have been so mixed already this season. Derby clearly not ready for the PL and Lampard not ready to manage us. So if Sarri is to be going out, whos next in the list? Big Sam or Alan Pardew 😂
-
Tbf I dont see him getting those stats..somebody posted a video up there and at least 5 times he could of released the ball or shot earlier in dangsrous positions and he didnt. Hes brilliant but theres a reason hes never scored or assisted 20+ in a single league season. Also Mbappe for me will be the best player in the world in next 2 or 3 years.
-
We must be the stupidest run club in the world. We are going to let Sarri go to Juventus, a club who are at the sort of level we want to be, and replace him with Lampard aren't we? No disrespect to Frank but hes done nothing yet as a manager, getting promoted to the PL in his first season yes it would be good but David Wagner did it with an absolute abomination of a Huddersfield side who literally just ran about lumping it. Even funnier we were actually linked with him before we got Sarri. Sarri hasnt won anything either but the guys put the hard miles in to get to this point from the lowest level of Italian football. Lampard in is just gonna be in all likelihood a PR move as someone said above, to try appease the fans acter a mixed season and cover up everything that has been allowed to happen like the transfer ban, lack of good signings over the years. Or will the board think he will be grateful for such a huge opportunity and just pan him off with absolute garbage like Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Papy Djibilwhatever his name was, like almost every other manager since Mourinhos last season? Goodness me. Id like to think Frank if he were ever to be appointed as manager would be appointed on his merit and achievements as a manager, not on achievements as an ex player.

Being athletic isnt a hugely defining factor if you have other facets to your game. Reading the game well makes a huge difference in any position. Sergio Busquets is not hugely athletic but he reads the game so well and is rarely caught out. Plus he is exceptional at passing through the lines and getting the ball back. Welsey Sneidjer wasn't renowned for being hugely athletic at all but he was a brilliant player at Inter under Mourinho because he knew where to be and his intelligence and technical attributes were excellent. Andrea Pirlo wasnt hugely athletic but again knew where to stand where to be to intercept/tackle etc. If youve got footballing intelligence and can read the game you dont need to be hugely quick or strong. Terry as a CB here in his latter years, was slow as fuck but again reading the game so well. The German tesm who won the world cup had a good mix of both physical and intelligent players.
-
Cech is being considered for sporting director according to sky sports but doesnt mean he will be in charge of transfers, he could be a advisor or a link between manager and board for transfers.... known us he could have 0 say 🤣
-
Perhaps. There sre 2 ways it can go really, although out of these examples the Spurs one is more applicable because Barca is Barca. Barca lose Neymar, sign Dembele and a few others in other areas, became a more functional and rounded team because they didnt just rely on their front 3 and had real depth and quality offensively and defensively. Spurs lose Bale, sign 10 players become a bit of a mess trying to integrate 6 players or more into their first 11. Chances are if we were to be somewhere in the middle and buy 3 or 4 good players (if we arent banned), integrate them into the 11 or 18, we can manage to still compete without disturbing the dynamic of the team and dressing room at once while also improving. Going and signing say 6, 7 or 8 players at once is hugely risky.
-
"He cant run" - Rio Ferdinand and half the Chelse fan base...... Really think hes gonna be huge for us next season and play so much more consistently as is the team.
-
Dont see why anybody is remotely bothered anymore regarding Eden. He rejected 2 new contract offers in 2 seasons. Theres plenty of other players in our squad and while they arent at that same level it would be more important to focus on them than someone who will be a Real Madrid player in less than 14 days.
-
Its a fair point but also at the same time, the same with more or less every player regardless of age. If a manaher trusts a player theyll use them. Prime examples Callum and Ruben here although they are actual academy graduates where as Gomez was bought from Charlton aged 18 after playing a full season there. For instance: Wan Bissaka arguably the stand out RB in the league this year only made regular appearances due to injuries last season. Raheen Sterling at Liverpool again injuries and lack of recruitment in that area meant Rodgers had to throw him in and deservedly so based on how his careers panned out. Harry Kane only played regularly at Spurs cause Soldado was shite and injured. Fair enough as I aluded to beforehand those guys have still improved under Klopp but it is the same with most of their team. PL top teams playing young players is such a rare sight, funnily enough United (Rashford, McTominay, Lingard, Pogba - moved of yes as Fergie didnt trust him but technically still counts 😂) and ourselves (Ruben, Callum and Andreas) used more actual academy players who had been there since under 18 than Liverpool and City although they finished miles ahead of us. This shows again that the solution isnt always playing youth, which many on here maybe think will make a difference in our league standings. Sometimes having 3 or 4 top top ready made players can make a huge difference. For me the PL is a poor enivornment for young homegrown players to play regularly though at most clubs, far too easy for teams to buy ready made or young players with 100-150 games experience than play their own youngsters. Scottish league might get slagges but I watch it very regularly and the likes of Lewis Ferguson, Jake Hastie, David Turnbull, Greg Taylor, Karakamo Dembele (be a lot more minutes for him next season after his debut last weekend), Michael Johnstone (again hasnt played a lot but was brilliant last weekend)... while they may have had various amounts of apperances and may never play at a top PL or even mid table PL level will all be the next wave of Scotland internationals playing in the top division of their nation. Sancho going to Germany was merely the first in a long list of youngsters who at these huge clubs will move if they value developing and playing regularly over playing 10 times a season in dead rubber cup games. Especially when the likes of Leipzig, Dortmund, Schalke, Hoffenheim in Germany are actively looking in England.
-
Again though Gomez was bought. Alexander Arnold is the only player through the Liverpool academy that Klopp has actually promoted. Likes of Kent and Wilson are out on loan and liable to be sold. Theres no doubting Klopp has developed players but again the same could be said of Pep but other than Foden they weren't academy players. Youth in the PL is fucked at most levels.
-
Walker Peters is never going to play regularly for Spurs and has had numerous chances to move, also he is 22 year olds and has only played 19 times for Spurs since 2015. Its same scenario as Bale not wanting to leave. Different reasons maybe but still sit and take the money at a top club or go elsewhere.
-
Tbf for the 17m a year when he clearly doesnt want to leave, unless Real Madrid dont register him which I severely doubt they would do to someone who can offer quality, its hardly bizarre. I mean even then look at Gary and Drinkwater here knew they wouldnt play but were happy to sit and collect their 100 or 120k a week or whatever despite not playing or being conaidered by their managers as important. Or look at other players of various levels at other clubs, the guy Kyle Walker-Peters at Spurs signed a new deal on decent wages for a 22 year old who plays maybe 10 times a season... its modern day football, nothing is suprising anymore. Clubs want players sign them up on huge deals offering huge sums of money all the time only for a manager to decide to chuck them. Look at Martial and Luke Shaw at United, Jose wanted to bin them and they eventually outlasted him. Theres every chance Bale outlasts Zidane at Real as he has a long contract on huge money.
-
Very few managers resign where we are concerned. I'm expecting him to stay on, but I can see next season being a horror as things stand (Hazard off, transfer ban, extension of squad players, etc). I wouldnt be surprised if 1) Juve wanted Sarri and 2) if Sarri takes the Juventus job. Plus, would anybody blame him? A large majority of our fans seem to have a huge dislike for him and regardless of what he thinks, at board level there must be some sort of realisation that there is a huge disconnection and dislike from a percentage of the fans. I think again, like when Conte was here, we would be the only club to get rid of 2 managers and see them potentially have the opportunity to walk into arguably better jobs - although nothing materialised with Conte regarding Real as he turned them down but still. Even then, footballing wise, Juventus are in a lot better structural shape than we are, would be very ideal working conditions for most managers to work there, proper footballing men running the show, great recruitment and the manager actually gets a chance to implement his way of working. Allegri was a unpopular choice to replace Conte all those years ago but when the season started Juve fans rallied behind him and he leaves now having been inducted into the Italian football hall of fame largely based on his achievements there, winning 5 leagues in a row and countless cup trophies. Good to see another huge summer for the club potentially going to be clouded with uncertainty regarding players and now the manager. Again......
