Do you genuinely believe that that will happen? It all sounds good when we're talking on a football forum, but in reality you're going to have some task convincing two of the most promising young defenders and a newly signed (hopefully) top defender to all stay with the team when they know that one of them will not be getting many minutes. Especially for defenders. We've basically had the exact same back 4 for the past 3 years!

And then next season bin the new CB or Zouma if Christensen comes back?

Let me ask you a question: Do you think that Christensen would have turned down coming back here had someone from the club sat him down, explained to him that we're in a transition phase and that he could become a regular here and offered him to at least start the season in our XI? Gladbach aren't taking Hazard and Christensen because they respect us. They're taking them on loan because they benefit greatly from their talent. They're the ones who are gaining more from this relationship and should be looking to please us, not the other way around! Since we are not bringing Christensen back, there are only two current options for our shambles of a defense: Either we sign a CB which we desperately need but which would make it a lot more unlikely fro Christensen to come back next season and break into the team, or we sign no one and get another painful season with the same rapidly declining defense. Can't decide which is worse. NOW was the perfect time to bring Christensen back and integrate him into the team.

We don't HAVE to honor Christensen's two year loan deal. Contracts have penalty clauses for breaking them. If we really wanted him here we'd pay them and get him back.

On the other hand, if Hazard plays LW who plays second striker? That's a position that is arguably more important tactically than LW. It (worryingly) seems that Conte rates Cuadrado and Pedro. I said somewhere else (Pedro thread iirc) that unless something unexpected happens, we'll probably be looking to sign a winger in the next two windows.

What part of our preseason has made you think that we'd play with two pure strikers? So far has used RLC, Oscar and Hazard in the second striker position. Incredibly doubtful that we'd play with both Costa and Lukaku. At the end of the day, Conte is an Italian manager, he won't leave the team outnumbered in midfield. Your main striker having to play with his back to goal is not just related to your own tactics. Most teams in the EPL will play a low black with 10 men behind the ball against us. Can't play off the shoulders of defenders against them. Goal stats mean little. Strikers are no longer there just for goals. Even if you neglect the differences in the leagues and positions, Morata's role at Juve was much much more than just goals. Lukaku would NOT start ahead of Morata in Juve's system, and by the early looks of it, nor in Chelsea's.

That his style of play is not at all suited to playing next to another striker. Lukaku doesn't play well with his back to goal, he moves to create chances for himself, not space for his teammates and his link up play is rather weak. If it were up to me, I'd take Diego and, by what little I've seen of him, even Batshuayi just in front of Hazard in a two man strike force.

Am I the only one who still doesn't believe that we're actually trying to sign him. It just makes so little sense regardless of whether Diego leaves or stays.

Don't like one bit the idea of keeping a player who wants out. He wants to leave, let him leave. Club should be bigger than any one player. I know you're comparing personalities/attitudes, but Costa is NOWHERE near Suarez in terms of ability. Luis is one of the best players in the world.

I'm one of De Gea biggest critics. His positioning and footwork are well below par for a supposedly 'one of the best keepers in the world'. Still had a decent season this year. Don't think he has the potential to rise to a higher level than he showed last season.
