For me his limitations as a footballer are so obvious that your statement shouldn't be seen as controversial at all but a no brainer but for whatever reason, it is.
-
So oscar hasn't developed and has remain inconsistent for three consecutive seasons but suddenly everything is going to kick into gear for him and he's going to start becoming the player some people want him to become next season. How do you spell delusional. I just hope those who make decisions at Chelsea are more sensible and realistic than that.
-
I said it prior to his transfer that he was a needless signing and I still retain that view. Bertrand was more than adequate cover for Azpi. A right back to challenge Ivanovic should have been a priority rather than signing a 29 yo left back at the expense of losing a capable and reliable young(er) homegrown LB in bertrand. His signing would have made more sense if jose was looking to move Azpi back to the right. On a side note I do agree with the view that Azpi handicaps our attacking play on the left. Hazard links up better with Luis for example. In the end it's a case of prioritizing defence over attack at the left back position.

http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2015/7/7/8905275/chelsea-fc-barcelona-transfer-news-arda-turan-many-years-much-money Well that settles it. It will be disappointing to go into the new season with Oscar as our number one option in attacking midfield.
-
Why are people worried over Turan's age (28 isn't old) anyway when he's not a player that relies on pace. a bit of perspective is needed.
-
You actually make a great point here. Just because a transfer fell through and never materialized doesn't mean the source was not legitimate, sometimes it simply means the involving parties couldn't come to an agreement in the end. The source can only report about transfer links and negotiations, what happens after that is completely out of the sources control. But unfortunately, the overwhelming amount of bad journalists and news reporting have made majority of football fans very skeptical and the reliable ones get brushed with the same broom sometimes.
-
Classic deflection tactics from Oscar apologists. Why must other players be drag into discussion about Oscar. You can say Oscar is very inconsistent and the reply would be "well William too is inconsistent", what does that have to donwith the original comment.
-
So why hasn't he improved in 3 years then?
-
And this is based on what exactly. your gut feeling? He's being here for 3 seasons, going on fourth and has shown no sign of improvement or growth, so please forgive those that are not exactly brimming with confidence that oscar will one day develop into a player that's good enough for a top team like Chelsea. Let me ask you a very simple question, do you honestly believe Oscar will still be an integral part of the team (or even in the team at all) if he was at any of the other big/elite teams in Europe showing the same level of inconsistency that he shown for the last 3 years?
-
How does one measure potential. what criteria is being used here. If it's talent, it's general consensus that oscar doesn't particularly excel at anything in particular, a jack of all trade if you will and if the criteria is based on how good he is for his age compared to other players, he's one of the most inconsistent players around so He's neither one of the most talented players nor one of the most consistent in his age group, He hasn't shown any sign of growth and improvement and he isn't a great athlete either so what is this potential based on exactly?.

People will try to justify and get excited over anything. We could sign a balloon and some people will be like "that balloon once scored for sunderland against liverpool, it will return to form.
-
We strengthen a rival's major area of weakness. If they get a better striker and get lucky with injuries, my money will be on them winning the league next season. As much as it hurts seeing one of our legend joining a bitter rival, cech has been nothing but a top professional and a great servant of this club and has earned the right to decide his future after Chelsea. Thanks for the great memories but I can't lie to myself and say I wish him best of luck because a cech in top form is excellent boost for arsenal and may likely result in them achieving great success.

How does the statement "He ran the show" translate to meaning the player in question was the only outstanding player? This Chelsea youth team is far more talented than the one that Gael played in so it's only natural that he stands out more in a sea of mediocrity mixed in with one decent talent (Borini at the time). Quality teams full of talent will always have more than one outstanding performers at anyone time and that takes nothing away from outstanding individual performances. You don't get any extra point for being a big fish in a small pond. The most pointless statement of the year. no one has claimed otherwise. the argument was whether your statement about kakuta being far more dominant for the youth team than Charly was accurate and a fair assessment or not. First off, neymar despite being flashy was very productive and so was the one before him Ronaldinho. Hazard, Isco, sanchez et al too are flashy but intelligent, productive and decisive players. The issue isn't about youth players being flashy but whether the flamboyancy is to the detriment of the team and hinders them from being productive and decisive. It's the decision making of knowing when to attempt a skill and what to do with the ball after and the tactical awareness and intelligence that distinguish the "flamboyant donkeys" like Kakuta, taraabt,Quaresma et al from the former.
-
Kakuta in his youth prime which was 07/08 scored 11 goals in 27 apps and his overall game back then , to anyone that understands football, was extremely headless chickenless and full of empty showboating i.e dribbling and skills that ultimately lead to nowhere while Musonda on the otherhand ran the show and inspired arguably the best youth team in europe to domestic and European success playing mostly as a central midfielder showing the maturity, intelligence and understanding of the game that Kakuta never had. Gael was just another typical youtube wonderkid. Don't confuse meaningless showboating/skills for dominance.
-
He's a significant upgrade over Oscar and I hope we really go in for him and hopefully get him. An AM that can actually run the game and create for his teammates at the highest level. He's no slouch tactically either and has proven himself in a system similar to ours. so there's absolutely nothing anyone can use to argue against him joining.
-
I genuinely thought he was our answer to replacing Lampard in the longterm (He still remains the closest to SFL) His goal scoring ability from anywhere on the pitch and setpiece is unrivaled in our youth and reserve team. He would have brought something different to the first team i,e a midfielder that can actually shoot from distance with either foot and take magnificent set pieces. It's too late now as he's already behind RLC and Traore (two of Jose's favourites) and we have seen how this usually pans out. He will likely be sold within the next two years.
-
If Charly is just another "run on the mill wonderkid" like some are implying, why are all these clubs lining up to sign him or take him on loan. We have gone from overrating our prospects to underrating them. Musonda is the best player of his age group in Europe and most journalist and scouts tend to agree with that. I will never be comfortable parting ways with a young player with as much ability and potential as him. He isn't your typical wonderkid either, i,e all showboating and no substance, He is intelligent, defensively/tactically strong and plays with maturity above his years which makes it even more baffling.
-
He's statistically one of the very best playmakers in Europe and technically gifted. Ability and numbers wise yes, reputation wise No. . . . . At the moment he isn't proven beyond a big fish in a small pond.
-
I agree that £29m is too much but in the current climate, that's not an outrageous price for a player of his quality.
-
Firmino is a great signing for Liverpool. He's technically strong and one of the most creative players in Europe over the past two seasons. I'm not sure he's a priority signing for them though. they needed a quality striker and a couple of defenders more.I'm a bit disappointed because he's a player we could have used to take the creativity load off Hazard and fabregas plus he's an upgrade on oscar as far as creativity and being a pure no 10 is concerned.

That statement should read falcao WAS clearly better than remy. in the same vein as van persie was better than benteke/kane. You are only as good as your last game. Remy is younger, fitter, more reliable goal scorer over the past two seasons plus he's premier league proven and his ability to impact the game as a second choice striker isn't in question while Falaco on the other hand is struggling to regain previous form or return to top physical and mental condition (that injury really took its toll on him) . he spent majority of last season on his arse, doing his best Torres imitation (man utd can attest). At this point in time, Remy is a safer and surer bet to succeed at Chelsea and the premier league (He already has). There's no single logical reason why anyone would pick Falcao over remy, which is what this is rapidly turning into, other than reputation which counts for little on the pitch.
-
Again why do we need a 2short term fix" for a position we are well covered in. One could see the sense in it, if he was a CM who could complement Matic well or be his back up or a right back to keep ivanovic on his toes. You can't even call Falcao a short term fix as that implies he's a player with a very high probability of succeeding in the short to medium term and judging by the disastrous effect of the serious injury he suffered and how poorly he's been playing for the past 13 months, it's safe to say that probability is very slim. van persie to Utd is the correct way of achieving a short term fix if that's what jose is after. this has shades of veron to Chelsea.
-
If we end up losing such a valuable and reliable striker in Remy as a result, it will be impossible to justify this signing. It is illogical and totally needless. I don't know the need for signing a washed up striker to be third choice when you have two solid strikers in Traore and Bertrand to fill the role. Who spends £10m minus wages on a third choice anyway.
-
It's very simple logic, Falcao was poor 6 months prior to leaving Atleti and carried that form to monaco where despite scoring some goals was generally subpar and sustained a few injuries which forced ranieri to relegate him to the bench and the same thing happened at UTD. hence why I said this "subpar for close to 3 seasons" in my original post. meaning I acknowledged his first half form otherwise it would just be 3 straight season of poor form instead of close to 3 seasons. But you can carry on the narrative that falcao was only poor at UTD if you want.
