Watford will play out of their skin taking confidence from watching us against Bournemouth. I think this will be an infuriating match tbh.
-
Guess the Barkley rumor was obviously true. More Bakayoko for a while, then. 😔 Biggest gripe is that Cesc isn't starting. If we play the false 9 we need a good link between the midfield and the forwards. Without Cesc, that all falls on Kante. Don't really like the look of this team at all. Bad feeling about this game.
-
Yeah, people calling for Conte to be sacked will be sorry. He's still the best out of any of the available managers. Hiring a mediocre (maybe worse?) manager like Luis Enrique who has done nothing and combining it with our clubs transfer policy and the very real possibility that we lose Hazard and Courtois would be a disaster. Like, we'd probably be finishing 6th-7th next season disaster. We have to give him until at least the end of the season. If we finish in the top 4 and there's a decent mode around the club then he should stay and be given some proper investment into his priority targets.
-
You just know that Deeny and Richarlison, who I've read have both gone completely off the boil since early in the season, will suddenly spring up and have world class performances against us. 😂 Theyll certainly raise their game due to it being Monday night football with all eyes on this one game. Hopefully we do as well. Restore that nice little gap between us and Spuds.
-
Wasn't coming off a long injury layoff like Giroud is, was he? I have a feeling Monday's XI is going to piss a whole lot of us off. False 9, Bakayoko continuing to keep his place, and watch Cahill start in the middle CB spot even though Luiz is supposedly back fit.
-
Couldn't make it up. Injury after injury for our squad this season. Maybe it's karma for having so few last year.
-
It's actually unbelievable how awful Everton are. Their squad isn't even that bad, mother just look like they don't care. Basically rolled over for Arse here.
-
I think that if Willian is fit enough to start Conte will begin the match with the false 9 again and bring Giroud off the bench if we need to change things.
-
It was Conte who favoured a CF that hasn't looked like scoring in his last 10 games (unable to score with his feet almost all season). This favouritism nonsense is something I despise. Morata in his worst form is twice the footballer Michy is. Even when he isn't scoring he offers much more.
-
Oh, FFS! 😂 Was it Conte out on the pitch all those times not being able to control a football? Was it Conte out there having the ball bounce off him like a brick wall? Could Conte have trusted him a bit more and instilled him with more confidence? Yes. But he didn't exactly help himself when he played.
-
Morata is still out for this. Fucking hell. Did he break his back or something?! Also sounds like we'll be using the false 9 once more. Doesn't sound like Donte thinks Giroud will be quite ready to start. Dreading this already.
-
It could be worse. Conte is one of the best managers in the world. The current favorite to replace him has accomplished and proven nothing.
-
People are going to be sorry for hoping Conte is sacked when we hire Marco Silva or Luis Enrique to replace him. Two managers who I feel would be disasters akin to AVB. Be careful what you wish for.
-
If we were where Arsenal currently are (very slim chance at top 4) I think Conte would've been sacked after last night. Since we're still right in the thick of a battle for top 4 and Conte clearly hasn't lost the dressing room yet he doesn't deserve the sack.
-
Man, I really really like Conte and hope he somehow stays past the summer. Gets us a top 4 finish and is then given adequate funds to get a few more in. We have to break this cycle of sacking great managers when they hit a rough patch. Unless it gets very bad like Mourinho at the end I hope we stick with him. But the way he's talking I fear he's teetering on the edge. Said it before but Tuchel is my #1 choice if Conte does go. Know he has flaws but I think he'd be great.
-
Hazard--------------------Giroud-------------------------Willian -------------------Kante----------------Cesc--------------------- Alonso------------------------------------------------------Moses --------------Rüdi----------------Luiz-----------Azpi-------------- -------------------------------Tibo------------------------------ Thats being optimistic and hoping Willian and Luiz are fit. More likely that Clueless Cahill will start and that Pedro starts instead of Willian. Who knows how long Morata is out.
-
Tottenham won't be beating Liverpool at Anfield. Don't see why not. Liverpool even with VVD are shite at the back. I didn't watch last night night obviously but apparently Spuds completely spanked United. I know Anfield is another challenge but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Spuds win there.
-
Kante has gotten significantly better going forward this season. Even today it was him bursting forward carrying the ball time and again. He certainly isn't the problem. We need either Cesc or Barkley or both next to Kante for a while rather than Baka.
-
I think the worst part of this season is that Chelsea doesn't scare anyone anymore. All these small teams play us and think they can get at us and they often have. Burnley, Palace, West Ham, Bournemouth. That's the depressing thing. Is it partly down to Conte's team selections and tactics? Yes. But it's also down to personnel. When our only consistently dangerous player is Hazard it makes us easy to neutralize. When we have someone as raw and unrefined as Bakayoko in midfield it's easy to play through us. When we have average players in the most important position in a 3-4-3 (wingbacks) we get exposed. When these small clubs go up against City they're basically demoralized as soon as they step on the pitch and they get blown away. Same with Liverpool's fantastic attacking play. They know they'll be pressed into oblivion by Spuds and it will be extremely tough to play through them because of that. Whereas when they play us we don't excell in any particular area and have easy to exploit weaknesses. Teams just think that if they can keep Hazard relatively quiet they can really get after us. I'd love to see us just try to blitz these teams.
-
We'll almost certainly be in 5th when we kick off. With immense pressure to bounce back after a terrible result and against a side with a recently sacked manager who will be desperate to turn things around. All eyes on us on a Monday night. Truly think Conte could go if we lose here. Anything less than 3 points and I fear for him.
-
I don't know. We lose badly to Watford on Monday, fall out of the top 4, and Conte says more defeatist things I think he'll be in danger. Another bad result after that and I think it could happen. With Barca coming and a CL place on the line Roman may feel the need for drastic steps.
-
I'm still fully behind him and understand what he's saying. Going a bit overboard with the overachieving statement, though. I think we're right where we should be with this team - a slugfest for a CL place. Sadly, it does feel like he'll be a couple of poor results in a row away from the sack for the remainder of the season. Hope it doesn't happen.
-
Even though he hadn't been in good form, Morata's injury and absence has really hurt us. He just makes us harder to defend against and gives opponents something else to think about. Good as Hazard is and he played well today, you know Bournemouth had been preparing thoroughly for a week expecting Hazard as striker and they defended well. We really need him back or for Giroud to settle in quickly. Also, the thing that would make us a better team and take us up to a whole other level is better wingbacks. Been said to death, but Alonso and Zappa are just so flawed. Absolute liabilities defensively and very streaky going forward. Top class wingbacks would totally change us. Hopefully Emerson's superior pace and skill on the ball can be exploited this season.
-
Agree that Baka needs to sit for a while. We also need Willian back as well. Hopefully by the weekend.
-
Barkley. If we play with 3 in midfield then it has to be Cesc, Kante, and Barkley.
