Yeah, you would think that if we were keen we'd have already moved. Maybe waiting on his injury? I know it's kind of petty to sign players simply to stop your rivals from doing so, but maybe we should just snatch him up before Arse or City do. He'd be a dramatic improvement at Arse and could be a long term partner for Laporte at City.

Regarding Nathan Ake, it sort of makes sense that we haven't rushed in to activate the buy-back clause. Is he a very solid, modern CB who would improve the squad? Yes. But is he clearly better than what we already have? That I'm not so sure about. Having thought about it more, I'm wondering whose place he would even take? His skill set and ability are pretty much the same as Tomori's. Doesn't it feel like any CB we target should be a dramatic upgrade? Trouble is, there aren't many VVD's or Harry Maguire's out there. We need that sort of player who is physically dominant and can command the defense but is also great with the ball. Zouma has the first part but is an accident waiting to happen anywhere near the ball. Other than Koulibaly I'm not even familiar with who the current hot properties are in the CB market.

Whatever we do I wish we'd hurry up and not wait until deadline day. We have a brutal stretch of fixtures in numerous competitions coming up soon. We need an injection of quality. If I recall correctly I think we play Leicester, United and some other big team all in a row soon. Then CL against Bayern.

I feel like there are clubs that are probably satisfied with what they have now in those positions but come summer will become interested. Liverpool comes to mind. There have been rumors recently that they wanted Sancho. I expect United will be after him hard as well.

I feel like the only real chance we have at the likes of Werner and Sancho is if we tried this month. But neither of their clubs will sanction moves in January. By the time the summer comes around many more big clubs will be after them and would likely outbid us.

I think only an injury to one of Salah or Mané can stop them. There are several big CL clubs that'll really get at them like maybe a PSG/Barca/Juve but all of those sides will really struggle to defend Liverpool.

Liverpool are simply absurd. Ridiculously good at every position. I fail to see who stops them from winning the CL again. Yes, they do give teams opportunities defensively, but who is stopping them from scoring repeatedly?

True. As I said, Dembele would surely be a decent player to have in the squad. It's just that we already have strikers that are "decent" in Giroud and Bats. We need signings that will help bridge the gap to City and Liverpool.

I agree. He'd probably be a solid squad player, but that's not really what we need. If Dembele signed for Everton or West Ham everyone would probably say he's a solid buy. But for a club with aspirations like ours? Ehhh.

Not only would Dembele be a weird signing from our perspective (because he's so similar to Tammy) but it would also be weird from his perspective as he wouldn't be first choice. Why would he come here to be a rotation player? We need a Werner/Griezmann/Auba type striker. Not a like for like target man player.

All but maybe a couple of players were just kind of casually jogging around looking annoyed and like they just wanted the game to end. Jorginho in particular.
