Declan Rice noise sort of died down. Wonder if all our other business is being held up while we sort out Havertz? Similar to United and Sancho where all of our other targets depend on how much cash is left over. Would be pretty ridiculous if we start the new season with no defensive reinforcements and Willy as our #1. And we only have 3 short weeks to sort it all out.
-
No update today, then?
-
Tweets from dudes I've literally never seen before ๐๐๐
-
Run-in looks like it could potentially be brutal. Two clubs in Fulham and Villa who may be fighting for their lives and three other who may be fighting for the title/top 4. First few months don't look too bad, though.
-
So if the pattern holds, yesterday and today we've heard a bunch of updates, so now it'll go quiet for a week. Then we'll hear "Chelsea and Bayer are in talks for Havertz. Personal terms agreed but still working on a fee between clubs." Again and again and again until the end of time.
-
If it's not Declan Rice, watch the CB we bring in (if we even do so) be someone completely unexpected and just announced out of the blue.
-
Silva as a 1 year stopgap while Timo Werner taps up Upamecano for months and we trigger his release clause next summer. ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ Our good relationship with RB Leipzig should give us the leg up.
-
Isn't he like 40? For 1 season as a stopgap I'd have him I guess.
-
I haven't been this obsessed/engaged in a transfer target in ages. Maybe since we were after Neymar before he went to Barca. Probably because we as a club don't usually target players in the very top, mega expensive bracket like this. The Kepa panic buy apart we normally go to the ยฃ50-55m mark at the max. It's awesome to see us in the position to (hopefully) pull off a massive deal like this.
-
Falk's update last night suggested this was just about done. Now this latest brief from some English reporters makes it sound as though this will continue to drag on for a while. Bayer digging their heels in, Chelsea trying to lower their asking price. Basically nothing has changed...
-
So in reality, not as encouraging as last night suggested then. Being โฌ20m apart is quite a large difference.
-
Isn't our new highest earner Werner who will be on just over 200k per week? Our club pay somewhat sensible wages (lol) compared to say United/Barca/Madrid etc. who pay some players 400/500/600k per week. Cant imagine them paying a young player who isn't a global mega-star nearly 400k per week and destroying our wage structure. Then you'd have all our young players demanding mega money when they're negotiating. Think about what Tammy will be trying to get for instance.
-
ITS THE HOPE THAT KILLS YOUUUUU!
-
Don't give me hope... ๐

Still insane and kinda fucked up that PSG were able to buy both Mbappe & Neymar for a combined 400m or whatever with basically no consequence. Just something about that that doesn't sit right with me. In fact, there's something about PSG in general I just don't like. Other than Mbappe they don't have a very likable team.

This is what I'm wondering most of all. Highly reputable people described in detail how Frank chatted with him about his role in the team and how personal terms AND contract talks were agreed like a month ago. So wtf has been going on since then? Haggling over a few million? If it's true that the club view him as a generation talent too good to pass up (like Matt Law said a few days ago) then we should have signed him up by now. At this point I'll be more relieved than excited if this happens. Getting annoying.

If we have t even made an offer yet... ๐๐๐ kill me

Him staying there for another season is the worst case scenario by far for Leverkusen, surely. Player may not be happy and motivated becasue by all accounts (and even according to their director himself) he feels like he has outgrown the club. They lose out on huge money that they'll likely only get this summer. And then worst of all Havertz will inevitably move to Bayern for a small fee and haunt them domestically for 10 years or more.
-
The Bundesliga season starts 1 month from today and the PL even sooner. You would think there would be some urgency from all parties to get this done ASAP. Bayer so they can have time to get replacements and us so we can hit the ground running in what will be a ridiculously quick turnaround from last season. If we leave it until Havertz is already back there training with Bayer I think there's no chance they sell him.
-
Think this is off. We would've heard some sort of progress by now if it was as close as all those guys said. Absolutely no news since Bayer went out over a week ago now. Makes me think that we were never actually serious about signing him to begin with and it was all fabricated media BS. There was probably interest in him but didn't go further than that after Bayer refused to budge on their valuation.
-
^ Yep. Kevin Palmer is a bullshitter who knows nothing.
-
Exactly. If there's one thing defenders hate it's pace. I don't think Timo will struggle early at all. Perhaps if he's thrown straight in as the CF it'll take some getting used to. But with Pulisic likely starting the season out injured I expect Werner will begin on the left. So he'll be able to unleash his pace and sprinting in behind from the off. And I don't know where this stuff about him not being "technical" is coming from. Have you watched him? Looks more than capable to me. He's not Neymar or Hazard on the ball but he is easily capable of dribbling defenders and playing in tight spaces. When I think of forwards who are not technical I think Lukaku/Tammy.
-
If we don't complete this over the next week I don't think it's happenening. It'll be a week from tomorrow since they went out of Europe and all the sources said things would kick on. No news since then. Maybe the only thing holding it up is what is mentioned above. Bayer want new faces through the door before letting Havertz go. Can't imagine what else would be taking so long.
-
City are the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde club. They can look utterly unstoppable and dominant one match and then look like jokers the next. I'd imagine Pep will take his frustration out on the transfer market and buy a couple hundred million worth of signings now. They need a new main striker. Jesus isn't close to Agรผero's level and Agรผero himself is injured all the time. Can see them bringing in Jimenez from Wolves who Pep admires.

Seeing as we're now 24 hours from those rumors yesterday with no confirmation from John Percy (Leicester go to ITK) or Matt Law or really anyone reputable I think we can safely call them bullshit. While it's pretty clear we're after him I doubt it's anywhere close to done.
