Can we at least get Koundé in so he can have a couple weeks of training to settle in… 🙄

This idea that Lukaku would/could feast against smaller teams in the league seems like wishful thinking honestly. Those are the very teams that will park the double decker against us and totally negate Lukaku’s biggest strengths. Ironically, it’s against the bigger teams that also like to press high and force the issue like we do that I can see him bossing. Having both Werner and Lukaku bursting at any defense would be scary. But for well north of 100m it just feels wrong. If it was £70m I’d reluctantly say that’s fair. Or if he were 22 instead of 28.

It just feels like the opposite sort of profile our club have liked recently. We’ve tried to build around younger players who are great technically and have lots of room to improve and sustain or inflate their value. So why then would we spend over 100m on a striker who has zero resale value, is mediocre technique wise, and depends heavily on his pace and power to be effective as he quickly approaches 30? This is why Haaland makes so much sense. He’s much younger and is the exact sort of profile we’ve loved. If Haaland agitates or decided to move in a few years he’d bring us a return of 200m. If Lukaku ends up being a poor fit he becomes a massive anchor who we’d probably have to loan out for a couple of years whilst paying some of his wages. It’s just strange from our club.
-
One positive thing we probably could count on with Lukaku is him bullying the shit out of Arsenal a couple of times each season. That’ll be funny, I guess. 😂
-
I can just foresee a very “feast or famine” sort of season with Lukaku in our team. He’s the sort of striker who will have long spells where he won’t score. He’ll be a real weapon when we launch our lightning counter attacks but could be a huge liability when we play against teams that sit deep and clog all the space around the box. I would wait and either try for Haaland next summer or see if some other young striker emerges or develops further. Like perhaps Vlahovic explodes and is ready for the step up.
-
Fans of United, Real Madrid, and PSG will be celebrating if we sign Lukaku instead of Haaland.
-
It would be completely nuts if we’re willing to go over 100m for Lukaku but not for Haaland unless the latter has made it clear he doesn’t fancy a move now and wants to assess his many options next summer.
-
Look where all those massive upgrades are, though. At keeper, defense, and a better Mount. As we saw once TT took over, that resulted in a much, much better defensive record. We will likely have an excellent defense and midfield once again this coming season. But if it’s still a massive struggle and slog to score even 1 goal in most matches we’re going to once again have to fight and scrap just to finish 4th.
-
If we struggle this season I don’t think it’ll have anything at all to do with TT’s coaching ability. He will extract the maximum out of these players I have no doubt. If it happens it’ll be because we could potentially be the only club big club in the league that doesn’t have a ruthless and clinical finisher.
-
Don’t think we should worry about that deal. By all accounts Sevilla are more than willing and in fact pretty much have to sell to continue operating as they do (buying low and selling high). Everyone seems to think we’ll eventually get him.
-
I suppose if Mount’s development explodes this season he could get into double figures. But Jorginho, Kante, and Kova shit the bed anytime they get near the box. Kova and Jorginho look like they’ve never proactive shooting in their lives. Which is astounding considering how skilled they are everywhere else on the pitch.
-
Can a single one of our center midfielders pop in with 15+ like Gündogan did? Mount, Kova, Kante, and J5 won’t score that between all of them.
-
Buying Lukaku for over £100m and then seeing Haaland go to United/Liverpool/City next summer for 60 or 70 would be terrible. Inter and Rom are both firmly saying it won’t happen but I find it extremely hard to believe that if we plopped £100m on the table 1) Inter would turn down such money and 2) that Lukaku would say no to the club he used to love showing that they’re willing to break the bank for him. So what to do….spend £100m on Rom now or wait it out, pray to God that Havertz and Werner drastically improve, and then pray even harder that Haaland chooses us next summer?
-
Sign him up, then!
-
Just throwing ideas out there. I’m desperate at this point. Jesus isn’t ideal but at least he’s a decent goal scorer when actually given a run and is a much better footballer than Tammy.
-
If City get Kane should we inquire about Gabriel Jesus? I’ve never been a huge fan of his but unlike these rando’s from small European teams at least we know that he can score reliably in the PL.
-
Probably gonna be RLC. Rice is most likely off the table for WH this late into the window.
-
Haaland is much younger and for me has more potential due to him being significantly more athletic than Kane. As brilliant as Kane is when fit we’ve already seen how he has lost a step due to constant injury. As for this saga now, I wonder what would happen if we offered them something like £100m + Tammy they’d go for it? They get massive cash as well as a ready made striker that’s about as good as they’re going to find in this market.
-
Spuds will finish 10th if they sell Kane. 😂😂😂
-
Just sign an inexpensive stopgap if we can’t get Haaland, ffs. Don’t spunk £100m on Lukaku who doesn’t even truly want to leave his Milan comfort zone. Ings perhaps. Or Griezmann on loan.
-
In my opinion, someone who costs £100m should be transformational. An undisputed world class player who wouldn’t look out of place in a World XI or something. Grealish isn’t anywhere near that level. City could sign Grealish for £100m, see him get injured day 1, and they wouldn’t even miss him a bit. So how is someone like that worth £100m? City don’t need him even a little bit. But I suppose it’s better they waste all that money on him than Haaland for example. I think it’s pretty much impossible that he’ll flop there due to the team he’ll have around him and I’m sure he’ll have some good numbers, but there are probably a dozen players for half the price City could sign that could do the same things.
-
One things for sure, I may have to watch some low res, 360p streams of our home games instead of the TV broadcast so I can’t see this abomination of a home kit clearly. My goodness…
-
Christ, I legit forgot Batshuayi existed.
-
What I find strange is how City are able to go out and offer £100m for Grealish and are still after Kane who will cost well north of £100m as well, yet we are still operating under this sell in order to buy model. It’s like we’re paralyzed in the market until some suckers take our deadwood off us. Are we legitimately scared of FFP in this day and age? City were actually caught and charged with that stuff and got barely a slap on the wrist. Like, what would happen if the club just put a bid of £150m in for Haaland right now? The football cops gonna come and arrest Roman? I don’t get it. City are operating in a post-FFP market whilst we’re operating as though this is 5 years ago when everyone was worried about it.

Hopefully they save a little for Tammy.
