Would be silly to pay £55m, do his medical, and then let him continue playing for Dortmund where he could break a leg or something.
-
Now we wait to see how or where Maresca deploys him. Could be any of 3-4 positions so it’s hard to know what to expect.
-
Didn’t expect that before the Gittens announcement. Didn’t Gittens have his medical like Saturday afternoon? Wonder what the holdup is.
-
I see we’re continuing the trend of recent transfer windows of signing players and then not seeing an announcement for like a week afterwards.
-
Why would a player like this who is sought after by a bunch of top clubs happily tie selves long term to one of the worst run clubs in the league? Feels like one of those situations where now if a massive club comes in for him in a year or two he’ll get mad that Everton’s demand is too high when it’s his own fault for signing a new deal.
-
Badiashile looks like he just picked up a hamstring injury against Benfica and left the stadium on crutches. I doubt anyone would go near him now.
-
I’d genuinely be shocked if we went and got another CB and especially a super expensive one. Not because we couldn’t use a top one but bevause we have so many CB’s currently and there aren’t really any rumors of any of them leaving at the moment. We have Tosin, Trev, Fofana, Colwill, Badiashile, and Sarr as what you would call our currently assumed first team CB’s. Then Anselmino who we don’t know where he stands. Where is there room for a top level CB to come in with all these guys here? If you assume Colwill is now nailed on as the starting LCB, if we go out and spend big on a new CB it would be a RCB who would be expected to go straight in to the XI. If that’s the case we’d then have FOUR CB’s that all play almost exclusively on the right side. There’s no way that’s viable and multiple really solid players will never be playing. Surely a new CB kinda only makes sense if at least 2 of our current lot are sold/loaned OR we suddenly switch formations to a 3-4-3.

Was excellent his first season and had a poor second one. Surely there’s still a top talent there.
-
Looks a talented kid for sure but I’d rather have the PL proven and ready Kudus personally. Buying yet another kid who could take who knows how long to settle when we already have so many of those doesn’t seem wise. A stepping stone club like Forest feels perfect for him.

The Garnacho rumors are like a giant log of shit that refuses to flush.

My issue with Madueke is that it feels like he just is what he is already. He has plateaued and I don’t suddenly see him taking a leap to another level because the thing that he’s missing can’t really be coached. And that thing is decision making in the final third. Yes, he is still a very dangerous winger if you get him isolated out on the touchline in space. He is a great outlet if you’re being pinned back by an opposing press or if there’s a quick turnover in midfield. But once he actually gets near the box he is incredibly frustrating. He also has far too many games where you don’t even realize he’s on the pitch because he’s so ineffectual. So again, I think he’d be solid somewhere else and you’d probably have a portion of our fanbase saying we shouldn’t have sold him but I’d get rid in a heartbeat if we can nearly double what we paid for him.
-
I’d bite their hand off if they want Madueke. I’m sure he’ll have sporadic flashes of brilliance there like he has here but he will inevitably stink it up more often than not. If we can make a sizable profit on him whilst simultaneously stopping Arsenal getting an actual top winger it would be fantastic business.
-
Kudus isn’t a natural winger so I’m interested to see where he plays if he goes to Spuds since Maddison plays centrally.
-
They’re probably trying to haggle Brentford into letting them pay in 5 installments or something.
-
Kudus was always going to be be a luxury/over the top sort of signing after the business we’ve already done. I viewed it as highly unlikely as soon as it was reported that we still wanted him. Spuds are right to move quickly to get him to agree to go there because we surely need to sell before going for someone else in attack.
-
I’m actually kind of surprised that we haven’t been linked with Harvey Elliot with our whole young player obsession. Lot of people think he could pull a Dole Palmer and explode once he leaves Liverpool to be an every match starter.
-
Eze for me is massively overrated. He’s one of those players who has a nice purple patch for a small period each season that gets people hyped but he has never been consistently great. For me, Palace is his level. He’s one of those guys who looks great as the main man in a small pond. Probably be decent for Arse but not a needle mover.
-
Another attacking signing after Pedro and Gittens feels super ill-advised from our POV until we sell a few unwanted attackers. It gives the other teams who are interested in our players leverage in negotiations because they’ll know we’re under big pressure to shift them. Going out and spending big on Kudus at this point when we haven’t even got close to selling Nkunku, Felix, and whoever else yet doesn’t sound feasible. Unfortunately, by the time we’ll be able to move these guys some of the more premium options out there will have been snapped up. Kudus would be a pure luxury player for us whereas he’d be the marquee signing for Spuds since they can’t attract bigger names. So I think he’ll end up there where I assume he walks straight into their team as a key player.
-
No clue, really. 🤷♂️ But we definitely need at least someone to rotate with Cucu.
-
While every top PL club is seemingly focusing on bringing in attackers it would be great if we try to go big for a defender now since the bulk of our attacking signings have now been made. We may be able to get an easy run at someone who we otherwise may have been competing hard with because those other clubs are preoccupied with other targets.
-
I agree. Don’t think we bring one in at this point. Pretty wild that we’re going to enter the new season once again having the worst goalkeeper amongst all the top teams.
-
Surely we have to make multiple sales now before another additional attacker after Gittens and Pedro.
-
I guess the thinking might be that Gittens is more aggressive and assertive than Sancho and that João Pedro isn’t a lazy ass like Nkunku. Are they “better” players than Sancho and Nkunku? Probably not. Do they suit what Maresca wants from attackers? That must be what the club are thinking. I’m going to take a wait and see approach with João Pedro. As others have said, Caicedo and Cucu came from Brighton and are beasts now. Maybe this guy can be the next one. He’s clearly super talented.
-
Yeah, all the data and statistics I see posted all over Twitter with Gittens says he’s one of the best around for his age even if the eye test is polarizing. And we’ve heard many times that the people on our board are very data driven. So when you combine their love of data and their love of former City academy players, Gittens was a no brainer for them.
-
That’s what I’m asking. We won’t know until we either hear from Maresca after we’ve signed him or once he actually plays. Is he being seen as a left forward? If so, £60m seems insane when we’re also buying Gittens for the left at £55m. Is he being seen as a striker? We’ve got Delap and Jackson so when does he play? The only spot that makes some sense is in behind Delap or Jackson in a 2 striker system. But then how to you fit Palmer, Gittens, and Neto in at the same time? You don’t.
