Only way I’d take a new CB this summer is if it was a clear and significant upgrade on who’s already here. Guehi is absolutely not a clear upgrade on either Trev or Tosin. Even if you might say he’s better it’s not significant enough to warrant a big fee or selling one of the ones we have. Along with goalkeeper and the defensive midfield positions, I think CB is a place where we assess how things go this season and then go big for top players next summer if necessary. Selling or replacing Trev or Tosin after the extremely solid season’s they both just had would be super harsh. And I was a Chalobah skeptic when we first decided to bring him back.

I see the Jackson brief has gone out. To me that sounds like one of Newcastle or Man United have expressed behind the scenes that whichever of them fails to land Sesko will pursue Nico. I can still see the long talked about Jackson for Garnacho swap happenening in some shape or form.
-
Sterling and Chilly will almost surely be deadline day desperation loans somewhere with us covering most of their wages, sadly. I can’t see anyone buying them with their wages. If they were on more modest wages I think they’d already be long gone.
-
Completely agree. Even if I was offered both for the same price I’d rather have Delap. We’re going to end up paying about the same for both Delap and Pedro as Sesko is going to go for.
-
€90m for Sesko is mental. This dude didn’t even tear it up in a league where we saw Werner and Nkunku put up awesome numbers. He has massive flop written all over him at that price. Would be pretty funny to watch United flail around and try to scramble for a different striker if Šeško goes to Newcastle, though.
-
I feel like it’s just slightly risky to sell Jackson now that Guiu is going out on loan. A long, grueling campaign with only 2 strikers could be tricky, though we definitely have enough attacking mids to play a strikerless system if necessary.

Brother tweets this EVERYDAY with the words rearranged. 😂😂😂

There’s no chance Rogers would be allowed to go this late in the window. Especially when Villa are having a nightmare of a window being unable to sign anyone.
-
Don’t think it’s been made official yet, has it?
-
Yep, unless Xavi’s signing depends entirely on us selling Nkunku first. Or George. Then we could be stalled for another week or two…
-
Surely Xavi happens within the next couple days with all of these sales happening.
-
We’re going to be supplying lots of smaller PL teams with some very good players this summer. That’s another great move for us and the player in Ugochukwu.
-
Either of the clubs KDH has been linked with so far (Fulham and now Everton) would be great moves for him. You can count me as someone who actually thought he’d be a pretty big player for us and would play really often in the PL. He was solid as a squad player in the end. Wonder how much we’ll be able to get for him.
-
With the ego on this kid he probably thinks Spuds are beneath him.
-
Liverpool gonna get zero stick for any inflated fees they get from Saudi. That only happens with Chelsea.
-
Excellent signing for great value.
-
Wonder where to. Haven’t really been any recent credible rumors. Just that Inter could be interested if Lookman fell through. But now Lookman has put in a transfer request and put pressure on Atalanta so I assume that gets done. Wonder if he’d agree to return to Leipzig.
-
George gonna be sacrificed for the arrival of Garnacho. That’s pretty fucked up, tbh. He certainly needed a loan because I didn’t see where he’d have played outside of League Cup games. But I can see a permanent sale with buy back option or right to match option.
-
I guess personally I just kind of put more stock in being the dominant PL era club than Liverpool winning a bunch of titles a hundred years ago. You don’t go 30 years or whatever it was without winning the league if you’re the biggest club in the country. They are the second biggest of course.
-
That, or he and his representatives have made it crystal clear to any other enquiring clubs that he ONLY wants us so they shouldn’t bother. As bang average as I think he is, he’s still only 21 and PL proven at the biggest club in the PL. Plenty of clubs around Europe including big ones would probably love to take a punt on him. But someone at our club has clearly convinced him that he needs to come here.
-
I really hope we find out quickly who is behind this push for Garnacho if we end up signing him. Whether it’s board/hierarchy driven or is it primarily Maresca driven? Is it the business people who love buying low and selling high soon after that’s pushing for him or is it the manager seeing a player who could explode in better circumstances? Because if this is Maresca really fancying Garnacho and baskin himself and the player to really take off then I can be slightly softer on this move. But if this is another situation where the club are basically just getting him with future profit in mind it’ll be fucked.
-
I don’t have much doubt or worry about Xavi taking to the PL for a couple of reasons. Firstly, his technical ability is superb. Excellent dribbler, excellent at receiving the ball under pressure, and is just generally very tidy. And secondly, he isn’t one of those attacking players who only fancy doing the fun stuff going forward. He gets stuck in and seems to like the physical side as well. He just doesn’t striker me as the sort of player who’s going to come to the PL and be overwhelmed by the step up. He seems pretty tailor made to it in fact.
-
Looks like Simons and Sesko have done the same thing. Pulled out of the Leipzig squad to try to push through a move.
-
Tbf, that’s what he and others have been saying for 2 weeks. “Talks advanced.” The big change now is Xavi taking things into his own hands and sitting out training. He’s desperate to come here. We have to hope now that things get pushed more strongly from our side and that 1) Xavi skipping training doesn’t piss Leipzig off and 2) Newcastle/Man United bidding for Sesko doesn’t complicate things.
-
Nice, hopefully things finally move forward over the weekend.
