So once again it looks as though we’re going to bid/talk with the club BEFORE getting a commitment from the player, leaving us open to getting fucked over again if City decide to improve their bid.
-
Lead PL commentator here in America and massive Leicester fan. I wonder if he’s willing this to be true or if he’s heard something from the within the club. I find it impossible to believe that if we put £80m on the table they’d turn it down. Especially if the player says he wants to go. They didn’t stop Kante, Drinkwater, Maguire, or Chilwell leaving when the money was right. Don’t see why they would here either.
-
Dumfries as a direct replacement for Azpi in the squad is perfect. That is, if he cost about £20-25m. For the €40m number that has been floating around it’s quite crazy. But at this point we need the bodies. If we’re going for a versatile defender who can fill in at RWB/RB/RCB though surely Pavard is the more sensible buy than Dumfries? Probably significantly cheaper, too.
-
Oh, yeah. Forgot he existed. Let’s give them CHO, then. Rodgers would probably work very well with him.
-
They need more than one forward, though. Just like us 😫😫😫
-
No chance we let Conor go anywhere. He’s going to be important. With Vardy gettin old I could see Broja being used reluctantly. But then we’re unbelievably short up top when we already are light even with Broja here.
-
Maybe someone like CHO? Ruben? Would be a great move for either of them as I feel that’s their level.
-
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 For the love of God, Chelsea, pay what it takes for Fofana. Locks down the right side of our defense for 10 years together with Reece. He’s worth it.
-
Both he and Fofana have unbelievable talent and could become amongst the very best in the world. Both excellent on the ball, both super quick. Gvardiol is the better passer, Fofana is the more physically dominant. I’d probably prefer Fofana if I could choose one or the other because he’s significantly taller and because he’s PL ready and will need no settling in period. But I’d be over the moon with either. Also feel it’s this window or possibly never for both. They each have great seasons and many other big clubs will be after them. We have essentially a free run at them now with Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, and PSG already bringing in CB’s. United have as well. If we want these guys badly enough we can get them.
-
I think it would take more like £75m to get Leicester to sell this late in the window and just before the season starts. Around Maguire money basically. We’ve done lots of business with Leicester in recent years so we know they’re a selling club. Just have to make an offer they’re happy with.
-
Just do it. Give them a massive offer for Fofana before Newcastle come in with another huge offer themselves for Maddison. They ain’t gonna sell their best two players in the same week. Leicester haven’t even signed anyone yet and can use the funds we give them to do so.
-
Just pay the damn asking price for either Gvardiol or Fofana. Both are so young and so ridiculously talented that the price will look like a steal in 5 years time. They’re world class talents who can take our defense to the next level. In a world where that useless refrigerator Harry Maguire went for £80m a few years ago, Gvardiol and Fofana who are just 20/21 years old and the perfect modern, ball playing CB’s for around the same price is justifiable. If there was money available to pay £60m on Raphinha and we don’t appear to be signing an alternative, use that money on one of these future world class CB’s.
-
I’m assuming he’s going to be our #2 when he comes in January if we’ve been chasing him so hard and paying a decent fee for him. Would explain why we’re fine letting Kepa go on loan. We might be fucked if Mendy gets an injury in the meantime, though.
-
Which is why I feel we should be looking at wide players from within the PL. It’s why I felt Raphinha would’ve been fantastic from the get go. We should be targeting Bowen from West Ham. Maybe Saint-Maximin if he has another solid season.
-
Don’t count your blessings yet. If we’re desperate enough this week before the season starts there’s still time for us to do something stupid like spending £50m or more on him.
-
Would be a huge positive for us if we can shift an replace all of Werner, Ziyech, CHO, and Pulisic over the next couple of windows. None are good enough.
-
He’ll still score about 25 tap-ins from the thousand cutbacks and crosses City put in.
-
Not fussed even a tiny bit if CHO goes. Don’t think he’ll ever become more than a decent player for a midtable club. Just like RLC, he has the talent and physical tools to become a top player but doesn’t have the attitude or mentality to match.
-
I just don’t think overall we’ve improved or taken a step back from last season. I can see us being equal parts great at times and frustrating/infuriating just like ‘21/‘22. We’ve kinda just maintained our level. Our problem of course is that while we will have essentially treaded water the two sides who finished right on our tails last season have dramatically improved their squads. That’s not to say they’ve signed a bunch of stars I’m jealous of but they’ve both made a handful of buys that address their biggest weaknesses compared to us which was quality squad depth. I can already envision match after match against the dross of the league where we dominate possession, have a dozen attempts on goal, and end up drawing because we don’t have goal scorers. Meanwhile, our two closest rivals for 3rd/4th have Kane/Jesus/Son/CR7. In so many matches we will play poorly in we will draw. In matches Spuds/United/Arse play poorly in they’ll have star forwards to bail them out again and again. As we saw last season. It’s insane we haven’t addressed this.
-
I don’t think we’ll make another “wow” signing but I do think we’ll panic buy someone decent soon. Like Pavard. All the talk over the past few months about how active we’d be and how massive the investment would be turned out well… 😒 Oh, and I just saw on Twitter that Jesus scored a hat trick. He’s been scoring for fun all preseason. For the life of me I can’t understand why we didn’t make him a priority in addition to Sterling.
-
Completely disagree. He identified the likes Sterling, Koulibaly, some top class CB’s and Raphinha as priority targets. The players he’s targeting are perfect for the way we play. The identification of players hasn’t been the issue. It’s the negotiating and signing part that has been dreadful. And I don’t think you can blame the coach for that since he has probably never been so involved in these matters before. If the very first thing Boehly did when the takeover was complete was appointing a highly experienced DoF we’d surely be in a much better place right now.
-
The thing with all these rumors of attacking players leaving is that we aren’t linked with any incomings. There is literally no chatter from anyone worth listening to about attacking signings. It’s as though we gave up looking for anyone after Raphinha turned us down for Barca.
-
Why did you name the 3 flops we’ve signed? That’s part of my point. Our rivals seem to always strike gold with strikers and forwards whereas we sign flop after flop after flop. In recent years Arse have had Auba who was prolific. Spuds have Kane and Son. United with Ronaldo. Liverpool with you know who. City with several players who score for fun. But then there’s us who 2 years ago had our highest scorer as Jorginho with all pens and this past year a midfielder with a mighty 11? goals. All I’m saying is it’s incredible that we’ve never gotten lucky and struck gold on ANY of these forwards in recent years. You would think that by sheer brute force of buying so many we’d hit the jackpot at some point.
-
Memphis is bang average.
-
When you sit there and really think about it, it’s absolutely mad that for so long we’ve needed a prolific forward or two. Every single “Big 6” side finds these players except for us. And now we’re going to enter yet another season without anyone who you can say with 100% confidence will score 15 PL goals or more. I expect Mount, Sterling, Havertz, and perhaps Pulisic will each score 8-9 but I don’t think that’ll be nearly enough.
