I believe Maxwel Cornet played primarily as a wingback in France before becoming a winger for Burnley. So that link makes sense if we want a inexpensive backup for Chilly if Alonso leaves. He’s super quick, skillful, and athletic so I’d feel a bit better about him rotating with Chilly than I do when Alonso has to come in.

Pedulla is a clueless Twitter attention whore. DiMarzio is hit or miss but much more plugged in than Pedulla.
-
I mean, it may matter if he only wants Bayern and doesn’t fancy coming to Chelsea. They can’t force him to go somewhere he doesn’t want to go.
-
German/Bayern sources say he wants Bayern or that Bayern are ahead in the race. Italian sources say he wants Chelsea/PL and that we’re ahead. Juve will want sell to the highest bidder. Wonder what happens if we have another Raphinha situation where we are the highest bidder but the player prefers another club?
-
After United announce that fullback and possibly Eriksen today, will we be the only club in the PL who haven’t signed anyone yet?
-
Call me crazy but I actually kinda like it… 😅
-
Perhaps Boehly’s very first task as new owner should’ve been to hire the very best sporting director money could buy. Because as things look from our POV we can’t seem to close a single deal with him handling everything.
-
Sounds much like Raphinha. We can and likely have offered more but the players themselves may not necessarily fancy a move here.
-
So… Raphinha ❌ Dembele ❌ De Ligt ❌ Richarlison ❌ (thank god) Gabriel Jesus ❌ Big target after big target we’ve been credibly linked with is being taken off the table. What’s next, Sterling signing a new contract at City?
-
If we end up with Kimpembe and Aké it’ll be a piss take. One of the two CB’s we sign MUST be a top class one. Skriniar, Koulibaly, or De Ligt.
-
Like Sterling, de Ligt seems like one Tuchel really wants. Losing out on him would be hugely damaging. A young CB that grows with the team for years and years. Now we’d have to turn to much more short term solutions.
-
Another transfer bombshell about to be dropped on our plans by the looks of it. Apparently De Ligt wants Bayern and Bayern have already spoken with him. This could turn out to be our worst every transfer window. Missing out on top targets left and right.
-
He would be able to take it pretty easy in the Bundesliga and save his energy for the the CL there. Bayern, from Ronaldo’s perspective, would be the ideal move. I’m just skeptical that a club like Bayern who normally like signing younger talents would do it themselves.
-
Can you see CR7 running and pressing against Liverpool for example like Havertz did well? Or any other world class opponent?
-
Ronaldo against teams in the bottom half or ones that can’t defend would feast in our team. Ronaldo against everyone else would probably be an active burden who the rest of the players around him would have to carry. Would Tuchel go for that? Is that gamble he’d take? I don’t think so.
-
Why couldn’t we have the right players who were also in early? Like all of our rivals do? The club deserve a bit of leeway due to the extraordinary ownership/board situation, but even then everyone expected at least 1 or 2 in by now.
-
Fair. But neither of those players will go straight into our first XI which is what we desperately need. Gallagher and Broja (maybe, if he isn’t sold) will be highly valuable squad players but they don’t elevate our best XI.
-
No, but it is the end of summer holidays for players and they’re now back in training. So while City will have Haaland, Alvarez, Phillips etc, Arsenal will have Jesus, Viera, etc, Spuds will have Perisic, Bissouma, Richarlison, etc in training bedding in with their new clubs and working with their new teammates and managers, Thomas Tuchel will be waiting around for who knows how much longer with no new faces. Every club will be much further along in their preparation than we will if we don’t hurry up.
-
It’s madness. We were THE club that was getting the most hype about how active we’d be this window and how much we were going to spend. And we’re now the ONLY Big 6 club that hasn’t signed anyone. Insane.
-
Rice will be a Chelsea player this time next season. No point in signing the inferior version of him.
-
I’m firmly in the “take a punt on Neymar” camp now. Other wide options have evaporated. If we can land our defensive targets I think we’d have a strong and hard working enough team around him to take a chance on him. I think his poorer form of late is more down to lack of motivation than diminishing ability. He’s only 30, not 35. No thanks to CR7 unless Tuchel himself is keen. If it’s entirely Boehly led for commercial reasons then we have problems.
-
Just can’t imagine Tuchel wanting to go from Havertz up top who runs his socks off and works for the team to CR7 who doesn’t. And as United learned last season, when you have 37 year old CR7 you’re basically forced to start him every single league or CL match no matter how poor his form may be or how bad of a match up it is. Otherwise it’s a massive controversy. Unless we get desperate and miss out on every other attacking target I don’t think the club will invite that kind of drama. All that being said, the thought of James, Chilly, Sterling and whoever else linking up with the greatest ever goal scorer makes me curious. He scored a good amount last season in a horrendous United side, so how would he look with actual ballers around him?
-
Yep. But things are starting to get real now with players returning to training. I think every club wants to start getting their targets in quickly now. Even the slow and incompetent United are about to announce their first signing tomorrow with that Malacia guy.
-
Surely, SURELY there will be incoming activity this week. There has to be. I think 2 will come in finally. Sterling & one other.
-
Think the club have enough sense to not make Aké our first announced signing. Think it’ll be Sterling. Perhaps they’ll announce both at the same time.
