So over the last 48 hours everything suggested that Cucurella was essentially a formality and that they’d happily accept £50m. That basically only a few minor details remained. Now we hear it’s not even particularly close and that £50m isn’t enough? 😒

Count me as one who doesn’t see room for De Jong right now. Unless there’s a massive midfield fire sale in these last weeks of the window where like 4 players are sold. That being said, what a ridiculous midfield we’d have if we did sign him. And seeing RedCafe become a smoldering crater after the meltdown would be glorious.

I’ve seen quite a few people around different places worrying about Tuchel getting sacked and leaving us with a bunch of players only suited to 3 at the back. If that happens I’m sure we’d just target the best obtainable manager who knows that system. Pochettino is currently out of work. If the unthinkable happens this year and we have a meltdown Mourinho season I think we’d get him.

I think Walker-Peters is the superior footballer to Dumfries. Tidier and more skillful on the ball. Don’t know which I’d prefer. Both are massively overpriced.

I can’t see it unless Ruben, Billy, and Barkley all go. Think it would surely be best for a super talent like him to go to a bottom half PL team and play every week. Sounds like we basically just did a check-in on Walker-Peters to get an idea of price. We’re not likely to actually go hard for him at this time.

Feels like we’re going the City route of having starting quality players on our bench at every position which would be nice if we can pull all these moves off. Except City have the ability to rotate their whole attack without a substantial drop in quality whereas we can’t.

Just feels like we can find a quality backup RWB for a hell of a lot less than £30-35m.

Gvardiol and Cucarella both doesn’t make much sense to me. I think reports about Cucu playing at LCB are sounding more and more plausible. In which case, buying another purely left sided, left footed CB for massive money makes no sense. If Cucu is coming in we need to target a RCB which is where Fofana comes in.

Maybe. I just feel like the 3 teams right behind us will all be significantly better than last season. So Havertz/Pulisic/whoever else stays can’t be as wasteful and inconsistent as last season if we hope to stay ahead of them. Mount I trust to replicate or better his past season but all the others are huge question marks.

Still no whispers of any sort of attacker coming in… Cucurella and Fofana would be top signings but are we planning on trying to win every game 1-0? 🤣 Spectacular defense but a whole bunch of blunt attackers who can’t finish to save their lives? Nah, we don’t want Werner to go to another PL club and suddenly turn into the old version to embarrass us every week. Him returning to Leipzig is ideal. And hopefully on a permanent deal so his massive wages are off the book and we don’t have to worry about it next summer.

Think we should hold off on this sentiment until the transfer is done, tbh. If City come back in and nick him at the last moment it’s chaos and negativity again.

I just don’t like the idea of shoehorning a non-CB in at CB. He’s one of the best fullbacks in the league. Why play him anywhere else? Especially if we have KK and Colwill who can play LCB.

Buying Cucarella to play him as a CB is even dumber than playing Reece James at CB outside of emergency situations. It takes away their greatest assets and what makes them special which is their ability to bomb up and down the wings wreaking havoc.
