Just want to reiterate again that if we don’t sign Enzo this window I hope we don’t do something silly like saddle ourselves with yet another average midfielder out of desperation for any warm body that we can can get. No more Bakayoko/Drinkwater/Saul/Zakaria level players. Just wait until the summer and try our luck. I see us still being linked with Alvarez from Ajax and that would be the exact sort of guy we should avoid.
-
Nothing from Ornstein, Law, Romano, Jacobs, Kinsella. Until they all start simultaneously tweeting that it’s done then it’s not. A record transfer fee being paid and contract being signed wouldn’t get reported first by some random Twitter dude.

Wait for like….1 reliable source maybe?

Enzo buzz has kinda died within the span of 2 days.
-
Just 2 days ago when rumors of us offering J5 a new contract I was okay with it. I still am but ONLY if he’s a squad player. He highlighted again today why Enzo would be a transformational midfielder for us. Offers everything Jorginho does in terms of comfort relieving the ball but he can actually move about the pitch and break down defenses. We desperately need to upgrade his spot. Jorginho should start games only when he’s part of a 3 and has complete protection.

Man, I was so excited about this signing. And out of all of the players we brought in last summer he was the one I was least worried about. Figured we’d get Thiago Silva like performances and ease of adjusting to the PL. Even when he was struggling earlier in the season I was urging patience. But he hasn’t gotten any better. Today was perhaps the most worrying sign. Thiago Silva was visibly angry and frustrated with him. Yelling at him, throwing his arms up in annoyance, and as the game wore on he straight up started not passing it to KK out of fear he’d make a mistake. And then KK himself became terrified of making a forward pass because his confidence is so poor. Just don’t understand how such an experienced, top level CB can be a total bust virtually overnight.

Yeah, unless we miraculously get all the key injured players back simultaneously and they all hit form at the same time AND we make a couple of big signings I don’t see how Potter turns this around. We’re rapidly approaching the point where the players just completely down tools and give up. Perhaps if there’s a change soon we can make a lucky CL run or something.
-
Potentially our worst season in decades coinciding with fucking Arsenal winning the league of all possible teams is some sick fucking shit. A club we have owned and clowned on for the better part of 20 years and now we’ve gone completely opposite directions within the span of 1 year.
-
I’m going to be real, he looks a bit like a deer in headlights on the touchline. I’ve wanted to give him time and have hoped given said time he’d build a solid team. But the big worry even before he was appointed was whether he can motivate and get buy-in from a team full of superstars. And the evidence thus far is a no. Though tbf, this is exactly how we looked in the lead up to Tuchel’s sacking so this isn’t all on Potter.
-
He’d be insane to come to us at this point, we have to be honest with ourselves. Could have his pick of clubs at the height of their power this coming summer.
-
Managers like Poch and Luis Enrique would probably walk to London to take this job, too. But would Boehly do it? Don’t think so.
-
With the way the Potter has been backed, the way the owners acted so swiftly in identifying him, and the long term contract they’ve given him I just cannot see them sacking him no matter what this season. It would be incredibly embarrassing for them and hugely costly. We’re stuck.
-
If we don’t swiftly replace Azpi and Jorginho this window our season will spiral to new lows. We CANNOT go on without Reece like this. We may genuinely finish 10th if this continues.
-
This feels exactly like the shit couple of season we’ve had in the past 20 years. Every single player in dreadful form all at once. No tempo, no patterns, mentally soft whenever opposition get aggressive. ‘Just wish could simulate the rest of the season like a video game and move on to the next. This is excruciating.
-
Just look at these stats they’re showing. We’re actually getting smacked around by one of the worst sides in the league.
-
Pure embarrassment.
-
Second bottom team in the league battering us. We are a shockingly dreadful football team.
-
Without the danger of Chilly and James bombing up and down each wing and with 2 mid 30’s CB’s in a back 4 we just look like your standard midtable side. Same with having Jorginho adding nothing at all in terms of making opposing teams think about him getting forward. Perfect illustration today why a player with Enzo Fernandez’s profile is needed. Passing between the lines, dragging teams around etc.
-
We’re just incredibly easy to defend against. Zero danger from either fullback in attack, zero danger from either CM, and walking pace football in general. Koulibaly looks like a shadow of the player from Napoli both defensively and on the ball. He could ping cross pitch passes for fun in Italy. Here he plays every one out of play aimlessly. Need an injection of energy and intent. Bring in Kova.
-
Goal apart, this is some awful attacking play. Our entire team camped in their half but just standing around static. So slow and ponderous. Zero creativity or incision from this midfield pairing.
-
lol, wtf

Think I trust Ornstein much more than Fabrizio Romano, unfortunately. If the former says things with Enzo aren’t as far along as has been reported than I believe it. Fabrizio is basically a tap in merchant most of the time. He definitely calls things right and first sometimes but his sources mostly feel like they’re from outside of clubs. Whereas Ornstein has sources directly within clubs. Still really hope we seal the deal. We almost certainly won’t have a better chance in the summer.
-
If Enzo doesn’t happen just wait for the summer. Don’t go and sign an inferior player. Even Caicedo who I see mentioned doesn’t have the same skill set and quality as Enzo. Just wait and see what’s available in the summer.
-
Benfica have some of the best scouts in Europe. I highly doubt they’d scupper a deal that would net them 100m or more because one of the potential replacements is off the table. They probably have half a dozen talents lined up in the event that Enzo goes.
-
True, but there’s just a different expectation for a striker. Felix had that usual wonderkid label and as a striker you’re expected to be a lethal, serial match winner. As a deep sitting CM I don’t think the spotlight will be quite as intense in Enzo. Of course for the price he will be expected to be world class soon, though.
