I just feel like convincing Caicedo to choose us will be even more difficult than Ugarte. He’s wanted by ALL of the big PL clubs.
-
I’m not devastated as if Ugarte is some world class superstar or anything. I just think that in terms of pure, purpose built DM’s he was the best available to perfectly slot into our midfield and compliment Enzo’s style. Players like Lavia and Caicedo are excellent midfielders but they are more roaming CM’s than pure DM’s. Caicedo is like Kante in that he travels all over the pitch. Ugarte was perfect because he did one job and one job only and did it superbly.
-
I think it’s going to be a real issue for any player that’s also wanted by other big clubs. Why come to Chelsea and have loads of incentives and stipulations in your contract when you can go to an equally big club and just get a huge wage with no stipulations? This is the kind of thing that could really hamper us in the market.
-
This sounds like Mendes playing Chelsea to get a much higher wage offer from elsewhere. And it worked. If we now miss out on Caicedo as well we’re in trouble. Rice is off the table, Ugarte off the table. We have to get Caicedo now.
-
Unreal. From done one way to done the other. Missed out on our #1 DM target. What a great start to the summer.
-
I think we’ll see the real Mudryk with a full preseason and proper coach. Expecting big things from him.
-
Mudryk, Sterling, Madueke, Nkunku, new striker. Plus Broja coming back from injury I guess.
-
Havertz has the perfect physique to suit the PL. His issue has been that he has never really used it to his advantage. He has always been kind of a finesse player trapped in a big body. He doesn’t throw his weight around or use his power at all really. And you very rarely saw him attacking the box aerially like he did in Germany. He almost reminds me of a kid who had a sudden growth spurt and doesn’t know how to use their new body.
-
It just feels like time has flown by with Havertz. Like he just arrived 18 months ago or something.
-
I don’t think any of the players we’re going to sell will make us depressed in the years ahead that we let them go like Salah or De Bruyne. Kova, Havertz, and Mount are all very good players who I’m sure will be solid for their new clubs but I don’t think any of them will suddenly reach this superstar level that we never saw in a Chelsea shirt. We’ve seen top form Mount and top form Kova here many times. And while those levels were very high I don’t think they’ll be that difficult to replace. Mase isn’t going to turn into a 20 goal per season player at Man United and Kova isn’t going to learn how to shoot at City at the age of 30. Havertz is the only one out of the massive list of players we’ll let go that could come back to sting a bit, imo. If he ever realizes his true potential he can become a beast. But I don’t think he’ll reach truly “my God, I can’t be,I eve we sold him” status.
-
Kind of annoying that we’re seeing moves quickly materializing for players a lot of our fans actually like but we’re seeing zero movement whatsoever for the likes of Pulisic, Ziyech, CHO etc who everyone wants out of the club.
-
He’s much more dangerous around the box, for sure. But I’m not sure a classic #10 like him makes sense in our team.
-
Very nice player but not the profile we need.
-
With Real Madrid’s creativity and a weaker league I can imagine Havertz scoring a decent amount for them but I still don’t think he’s the ideal fit in that team stylistically. Still, if they come in with £70-80m I think we’d definitely sell. Of all the players we could sell this summer Kai might sting the most because he’s got the talent to be world class. He’s just a super awkward fit unless you play a specific system. If Poch intends to play a 4-2-3-1 I wouldn’t mind keeping him as an option behind the #9 we buy. But if we play any other formation I don’t see the point in keeping him to play as a lone striker or winger.
-
With Benzema leaving I wonder if Real Madrid will enter the striker market this summer and go big for someone like Kane or Osimhen or they just sign an inexpensive stopgap and then get Mbappe next summer. My guess is the latter.
-
Guess we’ll see how good the new club hierarchy’s relationship with Jorge Medes is and how persuasive Poch is with fellow South American’s now. If PSG snipe him at the very end it’ll be super disappointing. The fact that we’re moving rapidly for him as Poch’s first signing tells you how important he feels he is.
-
Perfect synergy. And Ugarte also has the sort of physique that should perfectly suit the English game.
-
You have to say that their era of extreme Galactico’s has failed. The Messi experiment got them no closer to the UCL title they so desperately desire. Neymar has been good in his years there but again, didn’t amount to much other than Ligue 1 titles. Mbappe has clearly completely outgrown PSG and that league as a whole. What they really need as a club is a cultural reset. Get a young and exciting coach who can develop young talent and do some actual coherent squad building rather than just going out and buying a superstar at every position regardless of fit. But sadly for their fans, they’ll go right back out and repeat the same mistakes.
-
Other than their typical tenacious South American attitudes, they’re really nothing alike as players. It’s basically going to be like a rejuvenation of what we had with Cesc & Matic or Jorginho and Kante. Enzo is the playmaker and string puller who runs the game and control the tempo like Cesc or J5. Ugarte is the no-nonsense, pure DM who breaks up play and gets around the pitch from touchline to touchline. I think their skill sets perfectly compliment one another’s .
-
Portuguese sources say Ugarte is done, including some seemingly reliable ones. But Fab twice saying things are advanced but that we should be cautious in saying it’s done. I guess in case PSG or another PL club offer him way more in wages than we have at the last minute?
-
Fab says not done yet. Sounds like things are definitely moving in our direction but there’s still time for another club to pip in. Be nice to have an incoming next week since it appears we’ll have several outgoings.
-
Yep. It’ll get done soon and United supporters have already convinced themselves on Twitter that Mount is a massive upgrade.
-
Don’t think Inter have got even a slim chance, but my goodness it would be glorious if City choke in the UCL final again.
-
Under NO circumstance should Colwill be sold obviously, but even another loan back to Brighton would annoy me. He should be thought of as an instant, match week 1 starter at this point. If he’s part of any Caicedo deal it the only way the club should do it is if he signs an even further extension to his contract. Like a new 5 year deal. We should be searching high and low for a buyer for Koulibaly to make room for Levi.
-
That would be unreal but both players have SO much competition form UCL clubs. Even getting 1 of them will be super tough. Get both and we’d have one of the best midfield’s in the world.
