How is there STILL no Caicedo news?

After how glowing Poch has been about Kepa I can’t see it. Unless Bayern offer something too good to turn down. He seems pretty well liked in the dressing room as well so letting go of yet another popular player internally may not be best for harmony.

Yeah, the tackling stats from last season are pretty misleading when taking them in a vacuum. Leeds were struggling and playing back to the wall football all season trying to save themselves from the drop. So of course they spent most of their time defending and without the ball so Adams had more opportunities to tackle and put up monster defensive stats. That being said, I think his specific skill set can easily translate to anywhere he goes. He’s one of those high motor, super “try hard” players who will run their socks off no matter what. Can see him being useful in late game situations against tired legs. Or perhaps if Poch wanted to play with 3 in midfield against certain big teams like City or Arse where we are likely not to dominate all the possession you can comfortably play Adams and Caicedo with Enzo more advanced. Two tackling machines who cover the whole pitch.

Yeah, Adams is pretty Kante-like in his ability to seek and destroy the ball carrier. He’s an awesome “destroyer” and a decent footballer, too. Purely as a squad option his profile makes sense. In terms of numbers in midfield when if we have Caicedo, Adams, Ugo, Andrey, Casadei, and Gallagher next season I have no clue what we’re gonna do.

There’s still a couple of gaping, massive holes in our team and it feels like there’s zero urgency from the club at all to fill them. Liverpool apart we have a very favorable opening set of fixtures. For a club coming off of a horror season it would be such a massive confidence booster to start this new season with a bunch of wins on the bounce. But in order to do that we need to solve our glaring issues. Or else much like last season, even small clubs and average players will carve right through our midfield.

You never seem to see the big star players from other clubs get serious, long term injuries. Your Salah’s, Kane’s, Rashford’s, or Saka’s never get injured. For Chelsea it’s not just squad players but key, massively important players that are fundamental to the way we play who get injuries that force them to miss months. Just in recent years James multiple times, Mount, Chilly, Kante multiple times, Kova. What the fuck is this curse that’s on us?

Yeah, the fact that Angelo hasn’t been given a squad number because he’s off on loan whilst Ugo has could mean that the club still aren’t completely confident in getting Caicedo. So they’re keeping him here just in case. Then they sign Adams to be our starting DM with Ugo as his backup. 🫣🫣🫣

Any Nkunku replacement or cover needs to be a player that can slot straight into the XI. Olise is injured long term so that’s pointless. Vlahovic is a completely different profile of player and would rotate with Jackson, not Nkunku. Neymar rumor came and went within hours as expected. What we need is a highly technical attacking mid who can link play brilliantly and also contribute with killer passes and score a few. Players we’ve already been linked with can slot straight into that #10 role behind Jackson. Kudus or Cherki. Front 4 can be Mudryk left, Jackson up top, new signing at #10, and then whoever Poch fancies at the time on the right.

Agree that there’s no way we’d bring him back now but I DO think he’d look significantly better in this current setup in the 10 position behind Jackson. The interplay between those two would be amazing.

As amazing as Jackson looked through preseason, what happens if he gets to the PL and needs a while to settle? Or continues his impressive preseason form but does everything except for score goals for 3-5 games in a row? Who’s scoring goals reliably in this team with Nkunku out? If Vlahovic is our only answer then….yikes. Or an injured Olise who also won’t play for months. Getting Caicedo will be amazing and should make us incredibly formidable but I just hope we don’t have another season of not being able to score in a brothel.

Man, the Nkunku injury has kind of spoiled the whole summer for me. 😔 Legit believe that he was going to tear Liverpool to shreds and score a couple on opening night. Really set down a marker that he has arrived. We surely have to bring someone in. Nkunku was going to contribute not only goals, but assists, creativity, chance creation, and excellent link up play. Leaves a big hole in our XI for months by the sound of it.

The INSANE part is that United have rejected £30m and want £40-45m for McTominay! He’s like a £5m level player, ffs!
