And there’s Fabrizio saying it’s all but done. Well done to the board. Pissed up a wall all summer spunking money on kids that may or may not ever make it as Chelsea players while the player our manager desperately needed to get us back into Europe we fail to get him after chasing him for months.
-
Imagine if they do what we were meant to do and immediately sign up Lavia afterwards. Then wtf do we do? Go into the season with Adams and Ugo as our DM’s? We might be in the mud by Christmas.
-
The Ugarte stuff was embarrassing because we had apparently gotten so close but the fight for his signature everyone got over quickly because that saga only lasted a couple of weeks. I would say most of us Chelsea supporters have forgotten all about him. I know I have. But the Caicedo ordeal will be 50x more painful because we’ve staked our whole summer on getting him. Our whole season actually. At least 3 bids this window and tried briefly to get him in January as well. If Brighton simply dug their heels in and made him stay at any cost that would be super annoying but I’d get over it. But if he goes to a direct rival after a whole summer’s effort and negotiation? Like I said earlier, that’s sackable for whoever it is at the club who failed to secure him.

Nice. That’ll be Spuds out of the top 4 race. One less club to worry about. Kane will return to Spuds in a few years and welcomed as a returning hero to break the record.
-
Don’t know what would cause the bigger meltdown amongst Spuds fans: Kane finally leaving or Lukaku replacing him. I’d love to find out!
-
Sanchez was literally just around him days ago. We need to put him to use and have him on WhatsApp or whatever telling him how amazing Chelsea has been for his first few days.
-
So it’s all on Caicedo then. Need to hope a Spanish speaking manager and some of our Spanish speaking players (including a couple of his former teammates!) can convince him tonight.
-
I think Enzo would definitely be worth the 100m if we had a proper midfield structure around him. Which is what Caicedo provides. Him surrounded by literal kids or slightly average players like Gallagher or Adams would really be hamstringing him.
-
Yep, we panic buy some bang average bum next week.
-
Paul Joyce aka the biggest Liverpool mouthpiece out there has just retweeted an article about Caicedo’s upbringing and life story. I think we’ve fucked it here. Even though I really like Lavia, if he’s our consolation prize I think we’re struggling this season. He’s not the plug-and-play, ready made, every match starter that massively elevates our side like Caicedo is. Liverpool could win the league if they get Caicedo. 😡😡😡
-
Embarrassing. Liverpool could do in 1 day what we couldn’t do all summer.
-
Went to bed last night feeling like kids on Christmas Eve dreaming about signing both Caicedo and Lavia. May go to bed tonight knowing that when we wake up in the morning Caicedo could be a Liverpool player. 🤢🤢🤢
-
More like karma for fucking around all summer thinking Brighton would blink because we were the only genuine suitors.
-
Signing and chasing a dozen teenagers all summer while this transformative, MUCH NEEDED player for NOW was sitting there literally trying to force himself to our club. It should be sackable if we don’t get him after all this.
-
I think if someone offers £100m straight up with no add-ons they’ll get him. That’s what Brighton truly want, imo.
-
Inexcusable if we miss out on him now. He could very well be the difference between us or Liverpool finishing in the top 4. Us announcing Tyler Adams at the same time they announce Caicedo would be humiliating.
-
Well. Looks like the torture won’t last much longer. We could find out tonight how serious we are about getting him or more importantly how strong his desire is to join US rather than Liverpool.
-
If Caicedo goes they’ll find some random guy from a tiny club and turn him into the next Caicedo. I don’t think they’re worried about how they could replace him. The Rice deal is what really fucked us. Us paying big for Enzo could’ve just been a one-off that never happened again. But then when Arse agreed to pay £105m for a player that Brighton could directly compare their player to that was that. They were only going to allow Caicedo to go for a similar amount.
-
In combination with the Nkunku injury it would put such a downer on the new season to miss out on our main target we’ve been chasing all summer. And then imagine if we lose to Liverpool AT HOME in that first match after they’ve taken Caicedo from under our noses. Yikes….
-
We’ve allowed it to happen by haggling for so many weeks. Caicedo could’ve and should’ve been a Chelsea player weeks ago when nobody else was even thinking about him and Liverpool were busy bidding for Lavia. Now, perhaps due to extreme internal pressure from Klopp, Liverpool’s owners are willing to splurge on this one huge signing to take them back into title contention. Perhaps them receiving unexpected big money for Henderson and Fabinho made it possible at the last minute for them when it wouldn’t have been possible before. It doesn’t seem implausible to me. They’ve shown with Alisson, Van Dijk, and Darwin that when Klopp really feels like there’s a top player that will be transformative for them his owners will go big. PLUS, they’re probably selling Caicedo on the idea of reuniting with Mac Allister and making a genuine title charge. That’s gotta be appealing to him you would think.
-
I don’t think this Liverpool stuff is fake. Otherwise they’d have just payed up the extra £5m and gotten Lavia who they’ve been after for months.
-
So basically whoever offers £100m gets him. It’s hard for me to imagine FSG suddenly being okay doing that after haggling for other targets and refusing to spend big money. But will we?
-
Why skimp out on such an important position, though? Why now? We’ve already gone for the cheap option at striker with Jackson instead of going big for a star striker like everyone expected. We went the much cheaper route at keeper instead of going huge for an Onana/Maingnan/Diogo Costa like every expected us to. We refused to get involved in the Rice chase. So the money should be there when it comes to the most important area of the team that we have yet to address.
-
So ANOTHER day will pass without our top target in the building. Time and time again our club have payed the money for players they truly wanted, even if it was a bit high. But for one that we desperately need we have refused to.
-
Bidding just £2m above what Liverpool did and £2m short of what Southampton want just sounds weird. As if our club got word that Liverpool were sniffing around Caicedo and wanted to fuck with them by bidding for their target.
