I get that, but it just is that not everyone is good at that all the time. They're all different types of players (Villa, Rooney, Drogba). One cut doesn't fit all. But I agree, when he's fired up (West Ham), he's a treat to watch.
Even based on abilities alone, playing in the Belgian league is hardly uprooting trees. He's big, strong, fast and that's about it. Limited technical qualities. But we're going to agree to disagree, so . Time will tell if this is a good or bad move.
So he should come deep because the midfield can't make one decent pass in a game? Don't think so. Like Blue Heart said, Torres is like that, we knew it when we got him. Give him a decent ball and he'll be knocking them away more often than not. Time we questioned the (lack of) creative qualities and fantasy in our midfield and not make him a scapegoat.
I can understand your views. But 21 million for someone who a)is unproven b)isn't going to play straight away is absurd imo. The good thing is that if he fails, there's a decent resale value to be had.
Beat me to it, LDN Torres being fit/settled/in good mental condition doesn't matter though. What we do over the next 3 months in terms of settling on our midfield options and style of play is what will ultimately determine his goal return next year.
There's talk of him being loaned back to Anderlecht. That's hardly planning for the future. A real future plan would be to invest trust in Daniel Sturridge. And vanity buy because it's not addressing a pressing need. ''Oh look ... big strong Drogba lookalike sure to be a future star ... let's buy!" It's a move arising form the thought that more strikers = more goals. Which isn't the case, I'm sure everybody who's followed Chelsea last season will tell you.
Means bonuses/ additional payments dependent upon clauses in the contract like x amount to be paid after x league goals/apps or x international apps etc.
He has done nothing to warrant a 21 million fee, especially not from us, who have infinitely more pressing needs than a supposed future star who's nothing more than a vanity buy at this point of time.
I would be inclined to think about that premise if these were experienced, relatively big name players that were being flogged to HSV. Makes no sense to sell our academy guys to them only to have it reciprocated with their academy guys.
On surface any playmaker is a great playmaker considering our current roster, but I'd prefer a central one myself along with two out-and-out wingers (whether traditional takes on his man and cross type or the inverted ones).
This just proves that talk about having decided about sacking Carlo even if he won the league and having someone in mind midway through the season was bollocks. Had that been the case, we would have announced a new manager by now. We're fumbling in the dark once again. Typical Chelsea.
