  1. lol, we are plumbing new depths with these so-called football sites and their insane shoddy reporting on drunken yobbos gobbing nonsense on Twitter, which is then ludicrously fobbed off as 'news' ‘Welcome to Chelsea’ – These Blues fans call on club to ‘bin off Haaland’ and sign Euro 2020 star performer https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/06/14/these-Chelsea-fans-call-for-signing-of-patrik-schick/ (Schick, ffs) laughable

  6. So much THIS! : But N’Golo has a little dark side as well that I like, which I still see now when I watch him on television. He doesn’t lose his temper, but, If you watch, you will see that he does not mind fouling an opponent or getting a yellow card and he will not apologise or be nice to the other guy, he will just walk away. I like this and it gives a message to the opponent that N’Golo will not be too nice on the pitch. To be a really top player, you need this. If you are nice on the pitch, then they eat you alive and I smile when I see his darker side.
  7. some of the most viscous, greatest warriors in history: Sacred Band of Thebes According to Plutarch, the 300 hand-picked men were chosen by Gorgidas purely for ability and merit, regardless of social class.[18] It was composed of 150 male couples,[15] each pair consisting of an older erastês (ἐραστής, "lover") and a younger erômenos (ἐρώμενος, "beloved").[19] Athenaeus of Naucratis also records the Sacred Band as being composed of "lovers and their favorites, thus indicating the dignity of the god Eros in that they embrace a glorious death in preference to a dishonorable and reprehensible life",[9] while Polyaenus describes the Sacred Band as being composed of men "devoted to each other by mutual obligations of love".[7] The origin of the "sacred" appellation of the Sacred Band is unexplained by Dinarchus and other historians. But Plutarch claims that it was due to an exchange of sacred vows between lover and beloved at the shrine of Iolaus (one of the lovers of Heracles) at Thebes. He also tangentially mentions Plato's characterization of the lover as a "friend inspired of God".

  9. Jorginho On Inter’s Nicolo Barella: “He Is Like N’Golo Kante” https://sempreinter.com/2021/06/13/jorginho-on-inters-nicolo-barella-he-is-like-ngolo-kante/ Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has bestowed an incredibly high honour upon Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella by comparing him to another Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante. During the post-match press conference following Italy’s commanding 3-0 win over Turkey on Friday night, the ex-Napoli midfielder made his admiration for Nicolo Barella abundantly clear. N’Golo Kante is renowned for his ability to cover every blade of grass during a football match without ever seeming to get tired. As well as that, he is excellent on the ball and can aid his team in attack too. “They resemble each other in characteristics. They have physical power, they run for all 120 minutes, they cover a lot of the field. I must say that they give me a big hand in midfield on recovering balls. I think Nico looks a lot like Kanté.” Nicolo Barella played a slightly more defensive role than many thought he might against Turkey. Most of his involvement came from tackling opposition players and playing simple passes to Gli Azzurri’s forward players. Having this sort of player alongside Jorginho has been vital for both Chelsea and Italy so far, because it frees him up to pick out intricate passes that many players struggle to see.

  13. Mbappe 'affected' by Giroud criticism https://www.the42.ie/mbappe-affected-by-giroud-criticism-5465901-Jun2021/ KYLIAN MBAPPE admitted he was “affected” by public comments perceived as criticism from fellow forward Olivier Giroud following a friendly against Bulgaria, but insisted he did not want it to become a distraction for France at Euro 2020. Tensions surfaced between the two players after Chelsea striker Giroud complained about not receiving the ball often enough during Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Bulgaria, in which he scored twice. “I was a bit affected by that but we’re not going to make a big story about it,” Mbappe told reporters Sunday at the national training centre at Clairefontaine. “We’re here to represent France and the national team represents the most important thing. We have a big competition and these trivial things aren’t going to disrupt our preparation.” Mbappe, the leading scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 27 goals, revealed he had wanted to address the matter earlier in the week but was dissuaded from doing so by France coach Didier Deschamps. “I wanted to come Thursday (to the press conference) to explain myself. After speaking with the coach, it wasn’t the best moment,” said the 22-year-old. “He decided the best time was today, so I did as I was told and came today.” The Paris Saint-Germain star claimed it wasn’t what Giroud said that bothered him, but the public nature of his remarks. “I saw him in the dressing room, I went to congratulate him on his goals. He didn’t say anything to me and then I learned about it in the media. “I would have preferred that he come and even be much more scathing about it. In the dressing room if I have something to say to someone I will tell them and it stays there, I don’t have a problem.” But Mbappe sought to draw a line under the brewing feud ahead of France’s tournament opener against Germany in Munich on Tuesday. “I don’t want that to disturb the team. We will already have very difficult tests, we don’t need to make things even harder.” Giroud, 34, is France’s second highest scorer of all time, his 46 goals second only to Thierry Henry (51). The world champions have a wealth of attacking options though with the return of Karim Benzema to the squad following a five-and-a-half year exile, and Antoine Griezmann also in the squad. Les Bleus take on Hungary in Budapest in their second match in Group F and then face defending champions Portugal at the Puskas Arena on June 19 in a repeat of the 2016 final.

  18. Manchester City attacker still has what it takes to rattle opposition defenders By John Percy He is the most capped player in England's squad, and remains highly admired by Gareth Southgate, so why is there a sense that Raheem Sterling is yesterday's man? Sterling is still only 26, behind only Harry Kane with the number of goals for his country, yet the Manchester City forward will head into Euro 2020 with doubts over whether he should be included against Croatia on Sunday. While much of the focus has been on the likes of Mason Mount, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, Sterling has rather slipped out of the national conscience after a difficult season at club level. There was the heavy touch in the Champions League final against Chelsea, surrendering possession to Reece James, while there is uncertainty over his future under Pep Guardiola. Sterling deserves more respect. His control and possession of the ball may not be as polished as the likes of Mount or Grealish, and his game remains a little chaotic at times, but he is still a proven operator at international level. Southgate has few players with the direct approach of Sterling, the willingness to drive forward and break defensive lines. His finishing has never been outstanding, but his style of play still puts defenders on the back-foot. He is also versatile, capable of playing on either the left or right, and possesses the tournament experience that many of the squad do not have. On Sunday, there is a huge opportunity for Sterling to remind the nation of his talent, and why Southgate remains such a supporter.
