Those "second strikers" I always imagined with good technique, more agile and quicker than "first striker", I can't remember seeing someone like Lukaku being second striker, ever.
And yes... he is never useless - he at least can win great deal of his arial duels and score some headed goals, if opposition really parked the bus. He could also score from distance, has powerful shot, he is good 1 on 1, I think he can score in many different ways actually.

I believe one of the reason of playing Rashford other than Zlatan's injury is also down to the people in the board and United has a strong presence of ex United people who would want to have certain tradition going for them. That could be the reason why Rashford got game time instead of Martial.
Feel it is more of a forced thing rather than Jose wanting to develop ... like someone mention above they are looking to get the likes of Morata and Belloti despite having Rashford and Martial.

i had no doubt conte will sell him at the end of the season, conte was acting really smart all season with patience but he knew inside that this guy will not continue in his project. we both know if it was mourinho after this kind of accident he would not play for the rest of the season but then we couldn't win the league of course... end of story: conte a really smart manger! hope costa will leave soon as possible

I am not sure how can you blame chelsea. We have michy and costa in the 1st team. There is also tammy who score tons of goal for Bristol. I am not sure what else to do. Hoepefully he can get enough playing time in pool so he can develop

The Stones saga needs to be brought up, they were holding him even at 40 million pounds, there is no way they let Lukaku leave for 50-60 million pounds.

I'm sure it reinforced Wenger's decision to leave Cech out too, the fact he'd be in a final, facing the team he loved and left, right as that team just crushed them in the league. Pressure. Unwelcome pressure.
It was maybe a move many of us disagree with. Sure. But it was a logical move. Plus, starting Fab would finally and only for the first time admit in clear black & white English to the player, 'Hey, Matic, you aren't that good.' The manager isn't allowed to do that. You only become as good as Fab became at passing by being very in the head, but like Xavi/Iniesta and others, those who think the most, eventually, end up thinking too much. It's a fountain you're constantly adding drips of water/thought to, and there's no drain. All season long, layers and layers of water have been added to Fabregas's fountain. Thoughts and thoughts, emotions and emotions. And then these players end up 29/30 years old, suddenly thinking about investments/family business/private life in the middle of games. A point's been reached where football barely demands anything from them, usually because they're benched a lot. So there's a huge chance for that sharpness to be lost, just like in a boxer who goes from 2 fights a year to 1 fight every 5 years. He'll lose that focus in the ring he had. Because focus is habit, and Fabregas didn't have a season long enough to fully instil that focus. It left him after every good performance, because he never got a run of games where he could build it up. For as great as he was for 75% of his games this season, he still had games on par with his worst for Chelsea. I don't agree with Conte's decision, but I accept it, I think I get it. I think we would've won had we started Fabregas, just by chance, not logic. But that scenario takes a gambling man which perhaps Conte is not. Hence our XI's being as never-changing as Jose's.
Every manager has their own methods. And it's not like we lost because Matic played while Fabregas didn't. We lost because from Hazard to Costa to Kante to our full backs, we didn't act professionally.

Stay the fuck quiet, stay focused because at the end of this rainbow might just be one of the biggest medals and CV prints you will ever have. OK so if Conte has sent him a text saying "Your off" maybe it's Conte saying you shot your load here son and I am the boss.
IMO Diego Costa has been great, but he's dropped one fat messy shite in all this, it came in January, now all of a sudden he is trying to play the kidnapped....Nah not for me.

Not really. Dozens of players have played for the big three, Juve, Inter, and Milan. Far more than any other league. Pirlo and Baggio for example.

To be honest, he's doing his damnedest right now to burn all bridges and evaporate any good will he had with the club and us fans. Airing out everything in public and angling for a move away over and over again (which he's been doing for years now).
Personally, I'm sick of him. Quicker we move him on and get someone who's happy to play for Chelsea and isn't going to moan about going back to Spain every chance he gets the better.
