Disagree with that last part. Terry leaving after such a disastrous season ain't right. And that's one of the reasons I want him to stay (obviously not as a starter).
-
Musacchio is quality but he's so fragile. It's hard to say how much his physical condition has suffered after all the injuries.
-
Sigh. Villarreal came up short yet again. What a shambolic performance. Essien19 called it, fair play. Can't believe Liverpool knocked out both Dortmund and Villarreal. I hope Sevilla beats them. Firmino is fun to watch. Classy player.

It makes sense really. Bayern in the final in 2010, 2012 and 2013. That's when the football gods step in and take measures. They might not make another final for a while. Atletico making two CL finals in three years is absolutely amazing. I still remember the old Atletico. Basically the Spanish version of Spurs (pre-Pochettino). Simeone deserves a statue. I did think Bayern were unlucky though. 99 out of a 100 times, you win a game like that comfortably.

Nahh, son. We be Blue-rayin'.

Needed that goal after the hounding from the PC police. Yeah, he said it. You can all kiss his big Belgian bubble butt.
-
Tomo, you were right in the end. Didn't look like it for a long while. Rainieri, congratulations you wonderful man. Leicester. Wow. This is something you'll always remember. Hazard's goal was top-notch. The way he set it up and the finish... Sweet. Have you ever seen Spurs win the league?

Is Fabregas playing well or is it the usual big game performance from him?
-
He endured a rough start but overall he's been outstanding this season. This is the first time I feel he's been performing at a world-class level for a year, rather than mostly impress with a dozen of highlights and moments. He's a bigger presence over 90 min and has regularly been decisive. Watching his progress has been a delight and he's starting to become that player you can look at to make a difference. Winning Serie A POTY would be deserved though the same goes for the likes of Dybala, Buffon and Higuain. I still think he's better off at Juve than moving to Barca or Real. For now at least. Key role, adored by the fans, succesful and still hungry team. Outside of the big three, no team is superior to Juve. Pogba, Dybala and possibly a new star could do big things for Juve.

Nope. It's Villarreal's turn. Fell to Arsenal in the CL semi-final in '06. Fell to Porto in the EL semi-final in 2011. No more. This year feels right. And Liverpool sucks.
-
Villarreal! Reaching that final is written in the stars. It has to happen. Draw at Anfield.

I've never understood the footballers earn too much money argument. Football generates a ridiculous amount of money. Those who play the game professionally are responsible for that money. They get a cut out of the pot of money. We, the fans, are the ones making them so obscenely rich. We watch, we obsess. Mata's right bout youngsters earning too much. That's a real problem. They're millionaires before they've even achieved anything. And that money will affect and change the great majority. It opens up a world most of us can only imagine. But I don't think that will be changing anyvtime soon though. Proper guidance, keeping a close eye on the players and strict rules concerning behaviour and presentation might help.

Mahrez winning POTY was deserved. Everything he touched turned into gold and his role in Leicester's title win (can't go wrong really) has been amazing. But if you ask me who impressed me the most and who has the most class and quality, I can only look at Payet. He reminds me of Zola. You watch him and you can't believe how he's doing the things he does. Zola was exactly the same. Every touch he takes has a bit of magic sprinkled on it. So much control. So much awareness. The flair, the superb control to weave through to the tightest spaces, the way he caresses and strikes the ball. Not to mention the similar free-kick technique. It's a bit freaky really. Both were great talents but never reached the predicted heights, both moved to a decent PL side at the final stage of their careers, both transformed and carried the team, both took the league by storm and their contribution goes so much further than goals+assists.
-
Didn't they win at Old Trafford after failing to for 15 years or something? I'll never understand how these psychological barriers transfer from one group of players to an entirely different group of players but let's hope it continues

Cesc plays a good game - he's quality! Cesc plays a bad game - he's crap! Rinse and repeat. The life of a footballer of a player who possesses major strengths and major flaws. I like Cesc. And in my opinion, he's the man most suited to the band in this squad if Terry leaves. But his disappearing act in the big games and his annual half season siestas play heavily against him. Reaching the elite is never happening with him as your best and most important midfielder if you ask me.

It's the agents not the players.

Kane had a lot to prove after that debut season. I liked what I saw and I was becoming a fan but you never know. The second season is harder. That's what they always say. But not only has he once again proven his quality, he's become even better. Intelligent, terrific work rate, excellent fitness, good technique, uses his body well to protect the ball and in physical duels and a brilliant shooter and finisher. He's a real threat from any angle in and around the box. But more importantly, he's become so decisive. Opening goals, equalisers, winners. He seems to thrive under pressure. Kane over Costa for me. In fact, there's no one I'd rather have leading the line out of the PL strikers. Yeah, yeah, I know. Aguero. I'm not saying Kane is the better player but I'd always pick him. Aguero has tendency to disappear in games. And he's a bit streaky. Not to mention his fitness issues. I also think his performances on the international stage have been disappointing. Kane is a big presence. He leads the press, he moves all over the attacking third. He also provides some aerial threat. If he's not scoring, he's still a big help with his defensive work. And he's quite creative for a traditional centre-forward.

Muchas gracias. Eres muy amable.

Missed the game. Anyone in the mood to answer some questions? Saw Mikel positioned at CB? How did he do? I've been waiting for that move for years. How were Hazard and Matic physically? Were Chelsea that good today or were Bournemouth poor? Was it dominant performance from start to finish or bursts of qualities?

Will the academy eventually help us dominate English football?

Does winning the game matter though? I'd rather have a team with one, two, three players in the team good enough for Chelsea, surrounded by 'crap' and not winning trophies than a succesful youth team with no one realistically fit for Chelsea. African NTs for example enjoy some levels of succes at youth levels but most are crap at pro level. -

That first part is just a thing fans say. It's like in real life when you think or like to believe you'd step in if someone got mugged or something, only to do nothing when it actually happens. Remember Bruma? After the initial excitement of him being the future John Terry, I didn't think he'd be more than a PL midtable level defender. It took him a while but he's been making big strides this season, most notably impressing against Atletico and against Utd earlier. He might end up playing at a pretty high level though that remains to be seen. And don't forget good ol' Jackie Cork. He's done well for himself. Decent player. Yeah, they don't seem to be in the mood to make any changes. No one seems to care with all the financial succes. But on a more positive note, English talents do seem to be thriving more nowadays. I could be wrong though. -

40% is generous, LDN. Youth trophies are pretty much irrelevant. And they become a whole lot less important when no one breaks through. It should be about development. A team like Ajax for example play with youngsters in the first team, very young players at u-21 level and some go out on loan. And that leads to weakened youth teams. Completely agree with the last part. Thing is, the youngsters aren't nearly as good as fans make them out to be. Ask any fan of any club at any time and they'll tell you there are a couple or even a group of youngsters good enough to make the first team. It's not a coincidence. It's fans being fans. While I do think Chelsea have some real talent, the great majority won't make it. I have hope for Christensen and Musonda. If not at Chelsea, I'd say they'll make it elsewhere (top level football). The likes of Ake, RLC, Boga, Solanke are up in the air for me. The rest.... no. -
How could Dortmund do that to me? That game was in the bag. Twice. The level of defending after the 3-1 was reminiscent of the first game vs Bayern early in the season. Against Liverpool... They should be ashamed. Now they've drawn my second love. Villarreal will handle this, I'm sure of it. Of course playing at home first again but that won't be problem. A comfortable win without conceding at El Madrigal and a low scoring game at Anfield, Villarreal scoring at least once. To then go on and win the damn thing. Winning the EL would be monumental. It absolutely must happen. It must.

I love the curse. I wouldn't have been upset to see Barca lift it again but it would have been boring. Their form dipped at the worst moment. Messi and Neymar looking like cheap replicas. That's the thing with winning and unbeaten streaks. They're so mentally exhausting. And when it ends, you can all of sudden start to stutter. City don't impress me and I don't enjoy their game so I hope they don't win. Atleti gets some sympathy from me as semi-underdogs and I actually tipped them to go all the way before the knock-out stage. My only worry for them was their lack of firepower. Griezmann rarely scored in big games but that's getting better. Atletico is special though. Not a lot real quality in that side but they're right up there. Don't think most realise how insane all this is. Real is peaking at the right moment. But I don't think they'll win in the end. Still too frail off the ball. Bayern could restart the winner cycle. Bayern '13 - Real '14 - Barca '15. They possess so much quality but Boateng is a huge miss. And Guardiola remains wacky with his tippy toes on the edge. Bayern or Atletico and if I had to pick, I'd pick Bayern. Though I'd prefer Atletico winning their first CL and Simeone putting that cherry on top of his amazing work. Pellegrini winning the CL and then Guardiola coming in would be hilarious though. I hope we get Real - City and Bayern - Atletico. Exactly like that with Real and Bayern starting at home. Good contrast, fresh ties and plenty of room for upsets. The ease with which Inter beat that 2010 side... A good spanking at SB. I was so disappointed. 2009/2010 was a strange season. Chelsea only started playing amazing football after the loss vs Inter. A run like 2012 happens only once every century. At best. 2004-2009 Chelsea beats Atleti in terms of quality but Atleti is better tactically. They've lost quite a few players over the years but have managed to adapt wonderfully.

Filipe 'he can't defend' Luis. Having a great game. Enjoying a great season actually. Key player in the best defence of Europe. Sigh...
