Provided he wants to play for Chelsea again*
-
His defensive game has improved lots. How are Willian, Cuadrado, Ramires, and Mikel Chelsea material if Oscar isn't?
-
It's not possible with the coaching system around you, the players around you and the game time that Oscar gets not to improve and learn from them. If he's not good enough for Chelsea, then now you can justify to me how Willian, Cuadrado, and Ramires are.
-
The best thing for him now would be a loan to a good team in the French league to prove he has the skills for the top level in a league which breeds Prem stars. OM, maybe, or Lyon....
-
Improving his consistency would make him much better before he even improves as a player, which he will. He could also bulk up. It's there, but if you prefer not to believe then that's your choice.
-
I'm growing on the possibility of Turan-Oscar-Hazard. Well done @didierforever, you've changed my viewpoint. I still won't admit that he's better than Oscar is, though. But he's certainly not any worse.
-
I hope he'll get better or even just more consistent. He clearly has the potential, don't you think? The crossroads is clearly coming up, though. If he does neither of the above next season he will be sold if the right players are available.
-
Because the difference is that you think he's shit all the time, while I think that he's fantastic (for his age) when he gets on form. (not having a pre season might have something to do with that, we'll see) And because Willian last season was literally the reverse; shit first half, good second half. He's also older than Oscar, so should in theory be able to play more games with less effects. As for being a DM mattering, it's because at DM you need a higher degree of physical development as opposed to technical ability, while at AM it's the other way round - therefore the development curves are different. See Matic's development at Benfica. Also, if Turan does come here then surely it will be at the expense of somebody...
-
No, but I just can't grasp how you can say Oscar's bad just because he got injuries in 2 successive seasons. That is pathetic reasoning. Pretty sure that it wasn't criticism from him either really. He said "There are things you can't resolve" - World Cup fever gripped many of the players in the tournament last summer. "I think he was our best player for months, from August to November or December. He was absolutely fantastic. And after that he was up and down," Mourinho explained."He arrived in the crucial moment of the season in a down. Injuries, couldn't train, was trying to arrive to the game but didn't, was a doubt for the game, the game was too big to play with a doubtful player, so he arrived in the crucial moment of the season in a low." So basically Mourinho saying that he would have liked him to be available but was too doubtful. Also said that in the first half of that season he was our best player. And before you use that against me, I think every Oscar fan acknowleges he needs to be more consistent - it's most of the reason why so many of us are judging him this season coming with a proper pre season. As for Mikel; he was never a starter for us (except 2010-12) and it's not the same situation at all. When Mikel was 23 he wasn't a defensive midfielder. When Matic was 23 he wasn't a starter but was for Benfica. As for Makalele...I can't comment. I don't know enough about his youth career. None of your examples are attacking midfielders. You should realise, though, that injuries permitting he would have played the full season. He played 63 games in 13/14 for C & C. Admittedly this season he played far fewer than his squad mates (41 C&C) but for a 21/22 year old it was still a lot of games for a youth. For comparison, Eden's amount of games at 21, 22, 23 C & C 11/12: 57 (Oscar had 80 at the same age) 12/13: 71 (Oscar had 63) 13/14: 61 (41) It's strange. Oscar has actually played less as he has got older. Had Oscar been fit for our last matches and for CA it would be closer to 55 but even then it's low. If it's overwork then next season those effects should be gone, if it's not then I'll agree with you.

👕 Chelsea Kits Thread
CurlyHairLikeLuiz replied to middleoftheshed's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Next week probably, since they're trying to flog off the excess 14/15 kits. -
Sterling wouldn't I think. I read that much of the reason he wants to leave Liverpool is so he doesn't play wingback in Brendan's wacky 3-5-2 formation. Combined, Sterling-Silva-DB is quite a lazy AM 3. But that's okay, as long as they aren't planning to play Fernando-Fernandinho behind them, and they are willing to recover the ball from deep. We do have the strongest side overall, though. With a bit more depth it could be a treble winner.
-
Yes, that potential. Sorry, how good was Turan when he was 23? Oh wait, he was playing for Galatasary in a weak league. Oscar is playing for a title winning team in one of the toughest leagues in the world at the age of 23 but yet somehow he will never grow? You're trying to tell me that Oscar is a bad player...because he got injured, but recovered in time to go to the world cup and reach the semi finals? It's not blind hope either. There's no reason why Oscar won't keep getting better. Jose thinks he will. All Chelsea fans outside of here think he will. Brazil think he will. Juve thinks he will. If he's shit next season then I'll say he's shit. But in his first season here (when he was 21) he played something like 70 games for club and country. Would Turan-Oscar-Hazard work do you reckon? Edit; No, I lied about the games. It was actually over 80.
-
My point precisely. But my argument is that in the end City will still be liable to being counter attacked - none of that front 4 will want to track back therefore leaving whoever is in central midfield exposed, unless it's Pogba-Kondogbia or something like that. Fernando/old Toure-Fernandinho would get fucking slaughtered. They have better offensive quality but we have the better balance. If we sat back we would struggle. But if we play our counter attacking game they are in danger. Aguero is not much better than Costa personally. It's there but negligible difference. Our overall squad even if they sign all of their players is still stronger. Especially if Zouma gives our CB pairing a little more pace. Their defence now that Kompany forgot how to football and that 36 year old guy they have, Mangala and their poor fullbacks (even Zabaleta would not get into our team ahead of Ivanovic) Obviously, I'm biased as a CFC fan but unless they buy a few defensive players too (so basically ending up spending £500m in a single window) I'm not overly worried. Arsenal's squad worries me more now that they have a WC keeper, if they replace Mertesacker and get a good striker (see: Lacazette; Benzema; Bony)[Especially Bony, he'd give them physicality that they haven't seen for many years) then they're in title contention with us. Luckily Arsene "Specialist in failure" Wenger will probably be thrifty instead. E

Where were you when Willian was underperforming in the first half of the season? You and I both know that had he not got injured at Arsenal and then in training he'd have had similar minutes to the aforementioned players. He only got dropped for one or two games and often was reinstated by half time because Ramires fucked up the team balance so badly. By the way, when he was on the pitch at Arsenal before he got KO'd, he was one of the best players on the pitch. He's 23 years old. Willian is 26. Turan is 28. Oscar like it or not has fantastic potential (as a youngster some reckoned the was better than Eden) and therefore it'd be fucking stupidity to get rid of him in favour of an older, slower player who is not better than him now in any department while being 5 or 6 years older. If he fucks up this season, then I agree, he should become a bench boy. But until then I see no reason why you hate him so much as a player. Especially when there are no better replacements on the market.

Aguero Sterling Silva De Bruyne It wouldn't be much better than our front 4, quality wise, and would would be inherently poor at tracking back and defending - they'd need better than Fernandinho-Lampard to do that. Matic Cesc would not survive either. They'd need something like Kondogbia - Pogba/Vidal. And for Kompany to remember how to defend. Willian = Sterling De Bruyne = a less quality Hazard Aguero = Costa Silva = creator (Cesc) but pushed further up, to make up for the fact that behind them is the most uncreative central midfield ever. It'd be a quality team, but ours is more balanced and our manager is better - we could get a win over them. We have City away second game of the season. It shall be an interesting match.
-
Cuadrado is going nowhere. Traore is coming in to provide competition on the wing and at ST. I wouldn't be surprised if Salah comes back into the squad. Maybe he just needed a loan to freshen himself up.
-
Oh no, I'm sure the club is having nightmares over it despite the fact the season after we won the double. And what if he's shit at City? The media will praise us (well, as much as they would praise Chelsea for anything). If he isn't mentally up to compete for his place then he may suffer under competition from Silva and Yaya. City don't need a n10, they need a fullback, a centre back, a defensive midfielder and a central midfielder.
-
Judge him on the next season, now he's had a pre season, if he tails off again there will be no excuses.
-
If they're similar players it would make sense for him to replace Oscar.
-
Nope, I'd say they're about the same quality now barring pace of which Oscar has more. However, buying a 28 year old player to replace a 23 year old player is negligent, and driven by "grass is greener" syndrome. The team front 6 of Matic Cesc Willian Oscar Hazard Costa after the thrashing of Swansea in early January did not play together when in form again, and before hand it was tearing up everything in its path. Cesc got injured and never really recovered in time for the end of the season; same with Costa and the ideal replacement Remy along with him. Matic got suspended. When they all came back none were in the form they were in pre-January. We played against some teams with Zouma in midfield and a 37 year old Didier Drogba (who still ended the season with better stats than the fabled Falcao we have just signed) up front, Oscar up front or on the right wing, and overworking Hazard which is showing with his national team. All the replacements completely ruined the balance of the team such as when we tried to play Ramires on the wing or in central midfield; and we won the COC with an out of position CB at DM who did fantastically well there. We held up defensively because other than a brief blip in Cahill's form, the back 4 stayed together and when Zouma came in, arguably it made the back line stronger.
-
Another perspective^^ Oscar has been over worked in all areas over the past 3 years, for club and country. Has played nearly game for us. Every game for Brazil; until his injury he had not had a pre season since he was a teenager. He covers for Fabregas all the time, he brings balance to the entire squad - let me remind you that when Ramires played in his place when he was out of form, he completely fucked up the team and Mourinho thought so too - once subbed on at half time he restored balance to the team and to my recollection we won that game (I think it was Everton at home) and when he plays well, the whole team plays well. Had he not got knocked out by Ospina we would have won against Arsenal, too. Arda is literally the same player as him but he is 5 or 6 years older. It makes zero sense to buy him and you will be saying what you're saying about Oscar now about Turan one year from now. Oscar will grow as a player, he was once more talented as a youth player than Eden Hazard, and he will get better. How much depends entirely on him.
-
That is hilarious, considering Oscar had overall more assists and had only 2% less passes completed, and had the same amount of key passes.
-
Oscar can become the best no 10 in the world. Yes, I honestly believe he can. If he can nail down his consistency he's 60% there already. And if he goes into a Hazard like development curve like Mou reckons he will then I reckon he will be one of the best.
-
Let me just lol at how hard the club are trying to hype him http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/07/Falcao-in-profile.html
