  1. I think Sanchez would have been a solid fit here tbh. Excellent energy and offensive capability. I don't really think Reus should go to Barca though, I know Suarez is a bit off lately but breaking through a trio of Neymar-Messi-Suarez is hard af. My only worry about getting Reus is that he turns out crap after leaving them. So many players that left haven't really hit the heights that they were supposed to. I think it would be hugely hypocritical of him to go to Bayern too. But that seems to be the most likely destination for me. I still it's unlikely that he would want to come here but maybe if we win the CL again then we get a repeat of the Hazard situation Either that or we treat Shirley really well and he convinces Reus to come along.
  2. He's on the wrong side though. The job of a fullback on offense now would be to provide width and he isn't good enough with 2 feet to do that. Put him on the right and I'm sure he will go forward more. If we put prime cole at RB I doubt he would be as effective going forward too.I agree we need to free up Hazard, which is why Luis was bought. But somehow I think he might lack a bit of physicality for the pl. He's been superb in European games though and I think we have a decent shot at the CL if everyone maintains full fitness.
  3. Why do people think he's crap offensively? I remember he was decent under Rafa. Obviously he can't go forward so much on the left now too. The shouts for him at CB are interesting. He isn't a monster in the air but his 1v1 defending is superb, goes in tight and aggressive. But perhaps it sounds better in theory than in actual practice. Although I can't help think that if he were a Bayern player that Pep might actually try this.
  4. Ahh I think our CL run clouded my memory then. Well it seems like Cesc would defo be the assist leader this season if he keeps this up.
  5. I hope this doesn't spark a Mata vs Cesc debate but how many assists did Mata get from Set pieces for us in a season? Maybe it's poor memory but I could have sworn that almost every Mata corner was dangerous
  6. Pen all day every day. Still going our way I suppose
  7. I've never been to SB myself so I can't really comment. I understand it may be hard to get going for a match against QPR too. However, I have a friend who went to both SB and the Bernabeu and he said that SB was much better as he couldn't hear himself at SB while the Madrid fans were quiet up until a goal. I also don't think Mou should have publicly stated this issue but hopefully it improves.
  8. Put a fit and firing Robben on our RW and we would be unstoppable. Hazard and Robben terrorizing the flanks would put the fear of God in any defence. Nobody would relish the sight of them running at their defenses. However, I don't think he would be as good as he is now if he didn't move clubs. Don't get me wrong he was already good, but he seems to be aging backwards. Wouldn't be surprised if he suddenly had a head full of hair again. I feel bad for Sturridge and Bertrand because I don't think they were given a fair crack here. I think it all worked out for for the better in these positions though with Costa and Luis. Ballack was definitely moved too early and we really missed him. Could have used him for another year. We may regret KDB in time. I think he had good technical skills but lacked desire and fight in his game.
  9. Hope not. I dread seeing Ramires out wide, it makes me feel like clawing my eyes out sometimes.
  10. I think he has a chance, but he won't have it early. We should just let him develop at his own pace. From what I see, he is improving steadily and isn't the same type as Eden with explosiveness as one of his main assets. He reminds me more of Oscar. Maybe it's just me but I also think I see more desire in him to affect the play in the team. I don't think he will shy away from responsibility if given it.
  11. Honestly I'd rather keep Schurrle and trade away Willian or Salah. Schurrle is going through a bad patch but he isn't incapable of delivering. He's our only winger who is willing to constantly take risks in the final third (although he is going way overboard with the volume of unrealistic shots). He is also willing to be a super sub and we saw how effective he was for Germany in that role. Having someone like him is really crucial in the long run and provides more attacking options. Reus is a dream. a luxury player but having another serious threat on the RW would be welcome.
  12. Well the only reason I can think of is that athletes do really intense work in training. Hence, cycling several miles may end up overworking the muscles after a long period and result in unneeded injuries.
  13. It's so amazing how he makes saves look easy. He deserved a clean sheet today
  14. He stepped up in a big game. That's really all that we can ask of him at this point.
  15. Quite a waste. Can't blame Courtois or Matic since they were really excellent. Drogs did his best too. But its clear we are really missing Costa. The next time we have him fit we should smash them
  16. I'd say if you put him in today's game he would be a less effective.
  17. Maybe they could start a band after their football careers? Brana and the Brazilians
  18. Haha maybe we should compromise and agree at the 80s? Perhaps they might be, who knows? But in my opinion, the reason was that up until a certain point in time, football wasn't exactly such a serious business. Today because of money we see top dollar invested in pushing players to their absolute physical limits. I believe at this point we are very much near it. So the difference in the next generation shouldn't be huge for me. They can of course, be better technically. I'm just mainly stating the physical difference would probably not increase that much.
  19. I think you misunderstood. I'm not saying they don't matter, I'm saying that to claim a top player from 1950 is better than a top player today is rubbish(comparing primes ofc).
  20. I don't think players before the 90s should be included in the "best of all time" lists. They were only great in their time. Football has really evolved with training methods and tactics etc that there is no way most of them can really be considered better than modern players.
  21. Fantastic result. We have a chance to widen the gap tomorrow if we win.
