Feckin loved the moment he was on the floor and yet refusing to let Kane go past him by using his upper body. Usually I would only associate JT with that kind of commitment. Hail Cesar the Lionheart!
-
I can't remember our club taking such a stance before. Basically seems like we are at war with the FA
-
I think that's the trait about him that I really like. He tends to cleanly dispossess people even high up the pitch
-
Seriously that handball was so obvious you could spot it from fucking Jupiter. Ovrebo levels of incompetence right there. Only needed Ballack to run after the ref to complete that Deja vu And look at his teammate defending him. Hope they get relegated http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9726480/ashley-barnes-defended-from-chelsea-criticism-by-team-mate-michael-kightly

The only good thing was that he was sent off not stretchered off. Absolute fucking horrible tackle and decision there.
-
Much better than last year's result. Courtois with some quality saves to deny Ibra. Wish Hazard, Cesc and Costa could get more involved in the next leg. On a side note the I thought the ref had a good game with consistent decisions. Edit; How many times was Eden actually fouled tonight? It's crazy how many men they set on him. I would like to see Jose try playing Filipe the next leg to add another threat on our left.

I don't think our attacking players have been awful. There is so little space for them and these are excellent players we are facing today. Not some rubbish team. Both sides don't want to lose anything so you'd expect this kind of slow game. The goal came out of nowhere really
-
Noticed that too. When Cesc gets back and they get used to each other we might be seeing fantastic stuff. Perhaps its going overboard since it's just 15 mins but he and Hazard seem to have some sort of understanding with each other
-
I think it seems like he is trying to do too much rather than playing his natural game. But I think he will be back to his best soon
-
Great cameo. His off the ball movement seems good too
-
I get what you mean. Schurrle stuck it out much longer and I really respect him for that. At the very least he was willing to try and keep fighting for his place. He looked really sad in that interview and it seems like he did give everything he had to try and be a main player but fell short. I hope he develops his all round game into a much more complete player and comes back one day. Maybe like Matic 2.0 Also love how his interviews seem to be earnest and not just mere lip service.

Even Gary Neviile said it was brilliant.
-
Isn't on the bench at all today. Guess he's off then
-
I agree. He pops up with good goals and performances and it's not like they are worthless (City, Arsenal, PSG) etc. He can definitely elevate his game. IMO people are far too harsh for wanting him out since a player like him is as good as it gets for a squad player in football.
-
Well he did help make it 5-0. But I think its difficult to be a killer for every game and this is why other players have to step up (Oscar, Willian etc) to share the offensive workload. I actually think the only time I saw that vicious fire in him was when we were losing in that unspeakable game. If he can replicate that for every game he plays in then that would be the time when he should be a serious contender for Ballon d'or. Obviously youtube highlights can make anyone look good. But I do like the look of this guy. He seems to show a tremendous determination and fight in his game. I think Jose would like that.

Who takes the penalty? Hazard or Costa?

I think Balo has the best technique tbh. He does something similar to Eden in that he waits for the keeper to move, but if the keeper doesn't he is able to put sufficient power to blast it past the keeper. -
Only cause that guy showed the thread from Redcafe and I did mention Hazard
-
I think if you rank it on importance and impact to the team then De Gea would get the nod over Courtois because he has bailed them out plenty of times and in spectacular fashion. Courtois deals with different situations and he defuses any potential danger with ease which others may not really appreciate. However in terms of pure quality I think Courtois is a level above any other keeper besides Cech and Neuer. But I think it is kinda off topic to discuss keepers here anyways.

Matic is the undisputed best DM in the league tbf. Heck I can't even think of any DMs in the world right now as monstrous as him and with the ability to pick a pass forward too. Maybe Martinez but he hasn't been playing DM often for Bayern under Pep has he? Hazard is definitely the top dog on the LW in the league too. However, I think their bias shows when practically all of them choose De gea over Courtois.
-
I think that's what I really like about Jose tbh. He dares to try. Sometimes it works, like against Soton at home last season when we were losing. He put Ba on and shifted the formation to a 4-4-2 to press their CBs and they couldn't cope. Sometimes it fails like against AM when I think he put Eto'o on a bit too early or the triple sub against Newcastle at HT (can't remember when though, was it 2005?). But I can't fault him for trying. If he fails, I know he did his best and he can shrug his shoulders and say "we tried, but it didn't work".
-
Both are excellent at reading the game and breaking up the play. But Matic is far better at playing passes forward.
-
I think people just got used to Willian's defending, which to be fair, is excellent for an AM.
-
My sentiments exactly. As much as I think Matic is so much better, I would not want to just throw Mikel away precisely because of this. It's pretty much the same with Schurrle too. The ability to play different cards based on the situation is a fantastic situation for any manager.
-
I think you misunderstand me but I am agreeing with you that it is generally overanalysis, just that being more selfish with his play might tick some others off. The players are pros though so I don't have worries when they are playing on the pitch. I know Drogs did it before in his previous spell at times too but it all turned out fine. But good point Costa never seems happy lol
-
Agree with this. De Gea looks better with those highlight reel saves but Courtois and Cech rarely ever have to pull them off because of the way they play it. Our defence definitely helps too.
