I don’t entirely get the sentiment. I don’t think another title for shitty and them surpassing us even further is better. I hate all three, no lesser evil there

Arsenal are London rivals and Liverpool are widely despised for their history with Chelsea, on and off the pitch. Nauseating as it is to have moneybags Citeh dominating, to most Chelsea fans it is definitely the lesser evil

Before city won the PL I wanted UTD to win over them as it was the same old instead of a new team taking some glory

now I’d much prefer city to win than UTd as there wins mean less and it’s better for UTD to stay down

the one exception was Leicester because that was awesome and unprecedented

It is simple.

We grew up hating the other London clubs (especially Spuds and Arse) plus the 2 long standing giants of English footie, Manure and Pool.

The older folk here grew up also hating Leeds, but Leeds have been shit for decades.

We are the only London side to win the EPL over the past 20 years (this is the 20th season since Arse last won the league). We have won it 5 times in that period.

Citeh only started to be a domestic giant 11 years ago, and until last season, in their entire ONE HUNDRED FORTY-FIVE year history, they had only won ONE European or global trophy, the 1969/70 Cup Winners Cup, when they beat a meh Górnik Zabrze Polish side 2-1 in Vienna.

Arse, in 138 seasons, have still only won TWO euro or global trophies, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969–70 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1993–94.

We had more European/global trophies than both Citeh BEFORE Roman bought us, including a major one, when we beat Real Madrid for the Super Cup in 1998.

Until 2022, we had never lost to Real Madrid, and even after losing the first leg at home, we beat them at Real 2-3 and almost stopped them from winning the CL, if not for Benzema's 96th minute goal (and also the 80th minute goal from Rodrygo, when we had a nil 3 lead).

Fucking amazing how far we have fallen in 2 years.

I can no longer edit the original post, as we now have a time limit for editing, which sucks, lol

This, I'm surprised it's even up for debate fuck Arsenal and Liverpool couldn't care less about City.

City will be hated just as much given enough time. With all that cash flowing in, don't think they are going away anytime soon.

Just need their fanbase to start growing and become more vocal. It's already loud, but nowhere near as pronounced as the fans of the old big 4 clubs.

The final phase would be to hire an arrogant Frenchman as the manager... that's a (PL) tested and tried method to raise the hate level against your club tenfold. 🙂

FA Cup replays scrapped, final to be played on penultimate weekend of season

https://theathletic.com/5408686/2024/04/18/fa-cup-replays-scrapped-final/

The FA Cup has scrapped replays from the first round proper from the 2024-25 season in a six-year agreement to restructure the competition.

The 2025 FA Cup final will be played on the Saturday of the weekend of the Premier League’s matchday 37 — the penultimate round of fixtures — with league fixtures not played on the Friday night or Saturday to give exclusivity to the event, with the Football Association confirming the changes on Thursday. Additionally, there will be no further midweek rounds in the competition.

This season’s FA Cup final will take place on May 25 at Wembley Stadium, six days after the final round of matches in the Premier League season.

The semi-final stage will take place over the weekend of April 20-21, with current holders Manchester City facing Chelsea in Saturday’s match before Manchester United play Championship side Coventry City the following day — with both matches to be staged at Wembley.

The FA Cup finals in 2021 and 2022 were both staged one week before the end of the Premier League season, but all other finals since 2013 have been staged following its conclusion.

The FA Cup will also scrap replays from the first-round stage — the round at which League One and League Two teams enter the competition — onwards next season.

The move is designed to ease fixture congestion, with replays currently in place for the first-round to the fourth-round stage. Replays from the fifth-round stage onwards were removed by the FA in 2018.

However, the mid-season break in the Premier League has been removed from the calendar to “allow a mid-August start date for the Premier League.”

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has said: “The new schedule ensures the magic of the Cup is protected and enhanced, while working for the whole of the English game. The longer summer period also allows a much-needed player break before the start of the next season.”

Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters said: “The FA and the Premier League have worked in partnership to deliver more exclusive weekends without compromising the excitement of knockout football and this has been achieved at the same time as allowing us to ease fixture congestion generally.”

The Premier League has separately announced an increase in funding to the football pyramid, adding they were providing an additional £33million for grassroots football on top of the £100m it currently gives to good causes each season.

Replays remained popular among lower division clubs; third and fourth-round replays earned competing clubs £40,000 and £55,000 respectively, while gate receipts were shared equally between competing clubs — an arrangement that offered financial incentives to clubs with smaller budgets.

The English Football League (EFL) claims it was not consulted over the changes and says it is exploring “appropriate compensation arrangements” for its clubs.

Chief executive Trevor Birch said: “The EFL notes today’s joint announcement from the FA and Premier League regarding the removal of FA Cup replays and wider calendar changes. Whilst the League had previously been involved in discussions over the future of the calendar, these were predicated on the agreement of a new financial deal with the Premier League for EFL Clubs which has not progressed.

“This is frustrating and disappointing given the calendar is a shared asset across football and as we have consistently said a whole game approach is required to find solutions to complex fixture scheduling challenges.

“Our domestic calendar has been put under extreme pressure by the expansion of UEFA competitions and ultimately this represents another lost traditional revenue stream for EFL clubs at a time when the financial gap between the biggest clubs and those further down the pyramid is growing bigger than ever. We will now be discussing the implications for EFL clubs and seeking appropriate compensation arrangements.”

Campaign group Fair Game called the move “another nail in the coffin” for the “already crumbling football pyramid”.

“Scrapping FA Cup replays from the first round proper deprives lower league clubs of a much-needed source of revenue,” CEO Niall Couper said.

“This is a short-sighted move that does nothing to strengthen the game. It is another nail in the coffin for the already crumbling football pyramid.”

The competition changes will also see FA Cup matches, barring replays in earlier rounds, exclusively played at weekends.

The current format has seen the fifth round of the competition played in midweek since the 2020-21 campaign, but this will now revert back to a weekend slot.

The 2024–25 Premier League will be the 33rd season of the Premier League and the 126th season of top-flight English football overall.

In keeping with previous commitments made to clubs to address the congested schedule across Christmas and New Year, arrangements will be made to allow more rest time over three of the festive match rounds, with no club playing within 60 hours of another match.

There will be no fixture on 24 December 2024.

The fixtures are set to be released on Wednesday 19 June at 09:00 BST

The 2024–25 season will consist of 33 weekend rounds, four midweek rounds, and one Bank Holiday Matchweek.

This season will be the first to utilize Semi-Automated Offside Technology, as Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to its introduction. The technology will be ready to be introduced after one of the autumn international breaks
