Ancelotti rules out signings

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti admits he is unlikely to bring in any new signings in the January transfer window unless his squad is hit by injuries.

Despite a current slump in form Ancelotti is confident his squad is strong enough to compete for honours on three fronts in the Premier League, the Champions League and FA Cup.

Chelsea have suffered with injuries to key players such as John Terry, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien this season.

Alex is due to undergo surgery on a knee surgery, but with Terry expected to return next week after a nerve problem, Ancelotti feels they have enough strength in depth to cope without making any new signings in the New Year.

"We don't have long-term injuries," said Ancelotti. "We don't need to have other players in January. We have to look at the situation of Alex and Terry and Lampard.

"If all the players don't show problems we don't need new players in January."

No mistake

Ancelotti also rejected criticism that it was a mistake to let Ricardo Carvalho leave in the summer for Real Madrid as the Blues have struggled defensively this season in the Portuguese's absence.

"It was Carvalho's desire to go," added Ancelotti. "We don't want to keep players who are not happy to stay here. There was an opportunity for him to play for Real Madrid. We have three fantastic centre-backs.

"(Jeffrey) Bruma is young, he played a good game against Zilina. Three experienced centre-backs is enough."

The news no-one wanted to hear.

Carlo has been adamant he won't sign and he's stayed true to his word from his last couple of interviews. Only buy if there's long term injuries, Alex will be back in feb...

He said if JT etc. get something then recalling loanee's is also an option and we'll buy if we get injuries...Nothing new really

that is not good. we need to strenghten our sqaud with at least one other centre half.

with six players out the rest of the team hast do play a lot more, which means that more injuries are picked up and that the exhaustion of the players is larger than with a big squad where you can

take the pressure of some of our keyplayers.

someone like Belletti took off a lot of pressure for example.

..unless his squad are hit by injuries.

Because that's not us right now is it? But I imagined he'd say something like this to be honest, most of our transfers take place in summer not Jan. And, by the time the Jan window opens we'll have Essien, Lampard and Terry (touch wood) all fighting fit. Benayoun will be set to return shortly after January too.

'We have to look just for the injuries. We have long injuries, Alex, Terry, and we can decide to do something in January but this month it is important to know the position of John Terry and Alex, and maybe in January we can move,' he explained, though he still believes the squad he has at his disposal is capable of achieving its goals.

'I think this team has the same aim of the last season and has the same capacity and ability to reach the same objectives,' said the Italian. 'I think we can win the league and be competitive in the Champions League at the same time. I am sure that we can come back to play and win the games as we did last season.'

He better buy someone..

Roman prepared to support Carlo in January

"I spoke to the owner after the game on Wednesday and we spoke about what we can do in January," said Ancelotti.

"If we need to improve our squad in January, we'll be able to do this.

"The owner is available for us to do this.

"But now's not the time to think about this. We have to play with these players against Tottenham."

  • 3 weeks later...
He was then asked whether we needed to strengthen in that area during the January transfer window.

'In the centre-back i think we have to look at the condition of Alex,' he responded. 'This week he comes back from Brazil and we have to look. I dont like to speak here, but we need some players.'

Hope?

We'll end up buying Gary Neville for £40 million or something.

LOL!!!!! He is a jammy bugger though and gets away with pretty much everything

Daft to rule out signing. We just need to have a squad so when someone gets injured and our luck its seveal players at once we dont go 'omg we're fucked'

Cant see us buying though :( and then easily to predict. We dont buy anyone.Cue several long term injuries
