Pretty crazy that atm, due to injuries, Real Madrid are reduced to 3 attacking (their normal postions) players

AMF - Brahim Díaz

Winger - Rodrygo

CF - a 33yo, £4m Joselu

Plus shit fullbacks

Plus Cuntois, Éder Militão, and Arda Güler all out the bad knee injuries

Their CMFs and DMFs are carrying them, and even there, Valverde has zero goals, zero assists all comps so far.

Bellingham is carrying the team on his back atm.

I am genuinely shocked how frugal they have been in the market. Yes, they splashsed money on Bellingham but lost Hazard, Benzema, Asensio and Mariano. A lot of wages freed up too. Bar Bellngham, the only other attacker they added was Guler who is currently injured and as you mentioned bringing back Diaz. Ancelloti keeps coming out and saying they have good cover and he trusts his options, but I am pretty sure this is the board being frugal as they are telling him they are preparing to put the money into Mbappe. Whether that is huge wages and other bonuses if he joins on free or whether that is having to buy him incase he is coerced into contract at PSG.

They were miles of it in the league last season and you would think they would show more intent to regain the title.

R Madrid playing a diamond in this sort of game, where Atletico play a 352, was always going to cause themselves trouble.

Playing a system with wingers against a system with wingbacks leaves the wide areas exposed as it is due to the potential for an overload & spare man on the opposite side, never mind playing a narrow midfield diamond against it.
