Fulham Broadway 17,482
Gourlay has mentioned a sponsors right to rename the stadium a couple of times on Chels TV recently, and Buck is talking about it in the papers.Think it would be atrocious if it were renamed the Samsung Arena or McDonalds Bowl or something. Its not as though the club or Abramovich needs the money. Sometimes history is more important. boshman 1,073
Would be a total joke if the name changed. However. Every time i have heard Newcastle i have never heard sportsdirect.com St James Park or whatever its called. So even if the name were to change would anyone call it anything other than Stamford Bridge?

middleoftheshed 388
I would hate it but the supporters and most of the media would still call it Stamford Bridge. Wouldn't mind if the extra money helped lower ticket prices but that won't happen will it?
Term-X 7,891
i heard the club would only get a few million from this too which is a joke considering how ridiculous it would sound.

Kostas 1,468
I'd take that if it means 10mil a year. Edited May 21, 2010 by Kostas
BlueLion. 21,491
It would probably be called something like Samsung Stamford Bridge officially.UEFA and FIFA refuse to call stadiums by their commercial names - for example, for Champions League matches the Emirates is called the Ashburton Grove Stadium. It would therefore officially still be colloquially known as Stamford Bridge. I'd welcome it only if it meant tickets prices were reduced.
True_Blue 469
I would be against it,we never changed the name of the stadium or the stadium itself. We are one of the rare clubs that never changed stadiums in England and i am proud of our stadium and its name.Changing it would deeply disappoint me. EskWeston 696
It's going to happen 100% Gourlay is just trying to get the best deal possible at the moment. Not going to like it because the bridge is the bridge, but might as well accept it because it WILL happen and soon and there is nothing we can do about it. And it won't drop ticket prices either. This is being done to generate additional income so we can still compete at the top and live within the new UEFA financial rules....
True_Blue 469
I will never learn to like it,no matter what advantages it will bring to Chelsea.
Kostas 1,468
BridgeViews had a very interesting article about us selling the naming rights back when the subject fist popped up.What's in a name? Chelsea selling Stamford Bridge naming rights no bad thingIt makes sense from a business perspective.
CHD 30
Wouldn't be that bad. Be something like Adidas Arena @ Stamford BridgeEveryone would still call it the Bridge.
HRiver 1,512
It really sucks if the name gets changed I think and I love the current name (Stamford Bridge). If they change it there's nothing I can do though, I at least hope that I'll get used to it. Ray. 217
The stadium will always be known as Stamford Bridge by the fans, irrespective of whether the 'powers that be' change the name.

NattyBlue 44
It will ruin a lot of things, people who go to games: - It's already annoying to always hear / see Samsung adverts as soon as HT pops up- End of the game the adverts come on again...I was extremely pissed off when we beat Bolton 1 - 0 and blue is the colour was cut off 10 seconds in for the Samsung advert to be shownI think with a name change, similar things would happen during game when the stadium is being talked about
