Now keep in mind, Rooney has been out for the last few games, which is keeping up his goal to game ratio. If we eliminate Drogba's last 3 games, his goal to game ratio would be above Rooney's. Another important fact are set pieces. While Drogba does take free kicks, unlike Rooney, he doesnt take penalties.

Rooney scored 5 penalties in EPL this season, didn't miss any:

2-1 win over Arsenal

4-1 win over Portsmouth (2x)

3-0 win over Wolves

2-1 win over Liverpool

Why on earth is Rooney considered a better player and favored to win the "Player of the Year" award? Surely, its because hes English, which is ironic since the sport has been trying so hard to condemn racism.

I agree, Rooney has been the lifeline for United this season. And no doubt the English get preferential treatment, but that's the way it goes. But honestly the award means nothing, I mean Ryan Giggs got it last season for christ sake..
