John Terry Caused Mourinho's Sacking From Chelsea - Claude Makelele

The former Blues holding midfielder has some further shocking revelations to share from his autobiography...

John Terry was responsible for the sacking of Jose Mourinho as Chelsea's manager, according to the club's former player Claude Makelele. The former Blues' midfielder makes the claims in his autobiography 'Tout Simplement', published in France today.

"I thought Mourinho was practically untouchable, but a lot of players had complained about him, notably John Terry," British broadsheet newspaper The Times reports the book as revealing.

"When John Terry let his discontent be known to [Peter] Kenyon [the chief executive] and asked him for an immediate transfer, [Roman] Abramovich [the club's owner] reacted immediately: the departure of Terry was totally unimaginable, from the point of view of the supporters, the players or the club owners. Mourinho was asked to pack his bags."

The row allegedly took place on the eve of Chelsea's Champions League tie with Norway's Rosenborg on September 18, 2007.

Although it is well known that Mourinho and Terry had previously clashed over the England defender's physical condition, both parties have reportedly moved swiftly to deny Makelele's claims, with Terry issuing a statement through his lawyers refuting the allegations.

The Times also reports that Mourinho has contacted the Chelsea defender, in order to pledge that he will publicly deny the reports.

What effect this might have had on Chelsea's preparations for tomorrow's FA Cup final against Everton at Wembley remains to be seen.

i agree with CJ

but at the end of the day i dont really care - claude's not at the club anymore and nothing he says or does is going to change his legend status or change the way the club is run

also proves that no one is bigger than the club

There has to be some truth in this. Why would Maka make false claims and back stab friends just to sell his books. The way he described the turn of events with Drogba calling him up and him taking to Rui Faria, I beleive him. I did read about the bust up between Jose and JT in the initial part of 07-08 season.

And I am not surprised by what he said. JT complained to Roman against Mourinho. JT and Lampard complained to Roman against Scolari's training menthods. I mean wtf. They are players they need to put their heads down and work and not qustion the manager or complain against him.

And looking at the previous posts on this thread, no wonder Makalele said JT is untouchable. He is legend. He can do no wrong. Id say no one is bigger than the club. If the manager wants to bench him he should shut the fuck up and sit on the bench.

That said, I dun beleive the other part of the story which says JT asked for transfer request.

Its quite blatant to see that whenever a confrontation has been reported between Jose and Jt or Scolari and Ballack and Co. Our team has hit a low. Right after the JT and Jose bust up, we drew at home to blackburn and drew at home to Rosenborg. And Mourinho was sacked.

The players need to sort themselves out. It seems that if they arent happy with the manager, they stop performing. Its understood if it happens once, but for that to happen twice in consecutive season is not good for the club.

Now, we are going to have a new manager. I hope the players sort their egos. Specially JT and Drogba.

I believe it is within the player's rights to question the manager. After all, we all endeavour for the ultimate glory of the club, so I think the players should be allowed to voice their complaints without being criticised for doing so.

I dont see any other club across the world where Players keep going to the board to complain against the manager. And we have done it twice in two seasons. There have been player coach bust ups before. Beckham and Fergie, is one that comes to my mind. Beckham was out the next season. But in our case, we had to oust our most successfull manager. Tells you how blatant "Player Power" is at our Club.

Stam and Fergie is another that comes to my mind. Both have left. Fergie is still te boss and has taken the clubs to new heights.

We instead have changed 3 managers in 2 seasons. and looking for 4th for the 3rd season.

JOHN TERRY is puzzled by claims he helped get Jose Mourinho the sack from Chelsea.

13z5114.jpg

SunSport revealed on Saturday that former Blues star Claude Makelele had written in his autobiography that Mourinho left after a row with Terry.

But the Chelsea and England skipper has denied that and insisted he was one of three players who begged billionaire owner Roman Abramovich to keep the Special One.

Terry said: "Mourinho called me on Friday and we spoke about it.

"It's bizarre, actually, because Maka knows the real truth.

"I was one of three players to be phoning Roman at 1am or 2am to keep him on when I heard he'd been sacked.

"Myself, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba were all fighting to keep him at two in the morning so it's bizarre where it's come from.

"I spoke with Mourinho and he's totally fine with it.

"It's bizarre that Maka has put this in his book but I tried to call him last night and his phone was off. I'm sure I'll make contact in the next few days.

"Jose text me and I called him back. We know what happened, the relationship between him and the club.

"They parted on mutual terms. If I had that much power, I would have changed an awful lot of things at this club an awfully long time ago.

"Not one player is bigger than any football club. I'm no different."

I remember hearing bout a training ground bust up between JT and JM about a week before JM left. It stuck in my mind since JM left.

There are a couple from when he left, in September 2007 (First 2). Just searched it now because i remember it all.

Maka has every right to tell everyone about this stuff in his Autobiography. Its part of his career/life.

bullshit!!!! you beleive a player who's left us to go back to his beloved france and who wants to sell books by benig controversial, over Mr Chelsea, and if JT stands up and say's Maka just making trouble you doubt it.

me, well i beleive that JT it to much of a man, to go behind JM's back to get him the sack, futhermore JT's got my support, i really cant understand why you want to believe Maka in front of JT.

  • 2 years later...

This is an interesting subject. I first heard of it when eldo mentioned in another thread. Sorry for bumping a 3 year old topic.

Recalling the departure of Mourinho two years ago, Makelele adds: ‘Rui [Faria] — our physical trainer — explained that a lot of players had complained about Mourinho, notably John Terry.’

http://www.dailymail...nho-sacked.html

Is it possible that Terry is the main culprit behind the downfall of the club? If the Makelele accusations are true, then he's partly responsible, but so is the board for giving in. And exactly the same thing repeated throughout the years, the latest victim being AVB, who seems to have been sacked under similar conditions - a few players make their disagreements public and reported arguments between them, and weeks later the manager gets fired. I see no reason why Claude would lie about such a thing... Reading his version of events, I'm sure that something along those lines did happen, you just don't make stuff like that up.

I'm gutted that in a few weeks I'm forced to doubt the 2 players who are the main reason why I started following Chelsea.

I believe it is within the player's rights to question the manager. After all, we all endeavour for the ultimate glory of the club, so I think the players should be allowed to voice their complaints without being criticised for doing so.

Do you still believe so? ;)

Jesus listen to yourself you bunch of gullible goons.

Do you really think Mourinho would publicly back JT various different times if this was the case?

The cynics and pessimists are really out for it lately. Cringeworthy. I can imagine other fans coming on here and laughing at us. Absolute embarrassment.
