why?

Because if he reaches his potential we would risk losing him for pennies, right now they want to get rid of him because of the ridiculous contract we gave him. No other reason why he is so low in the picking order.

£40m is not really 'pennies'

and we can accept less

he is on £100K PW

half of Chilwell, half of Fofana

2 and a half times less than Reese and Sancho

3.25 times less than the rotter Sterling

Maresca's defense lost this match.

I was against the signing as soon as the rumours started to circulate. He's here now, so the manager should be instructing what's required from everyone.

Wouldn’t buy into it under trophy winning manager in Simeone who demanded and got the same effort from World Cup winners etc, what chance has Maresca got?

His performance tonight is exactly the reason why we shouldn’t have signed him. Loves affecting the game when its easy and there is no pressure but when it matters he is hopeless.

No way Guiu earns so much.

Filip Jorgensen (5/10):

Had a couple of shaky moments at the back but there wasn't a huge amount he could do for Newcastle's goals. With Robert Sanchez's place potentially up for grabs, this may have been something of a missed opportunity for the goalkeeper.

Axel Disasi (4/10):

Showed his physical strength on occasion but his passing could have been far better and his positional play needs massive work. Scored an own goal for his troubles, too. Poor, very poor.

Tosin Adarabioyo (5/10):

Was a bit more solid at the back than his defensive partner Benoit Badiashile but his passing out from the back wasn't particularly precise, either.

Benoit Badiashile (3/10):

Played team-mate Renato Veiga into trouble with a hospital pass that led to Newcastle's opener. His passing was wayward throughout and he was guilty of losing the ball too often. A horrid performance from the big centre-back.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (4/10):

Was ineffective, lost his footing on a number of occasions and is unlikely to become a starter in Chelsea's first-team any time soon. Was taken off early in the second half. Bad outing.

Renato Veiga (5/10):

Newcastle's press forced him into errors and he didn't look particularly comfortable on the ball on a difficult night for the Portuguese.

Enzo Fernandez (5/10):

Did a lot of sideways passing and the Argentine World Cup winner, arguably, needs to offer more in Chelsea's midfield.

No…

Newcastle outworked Chelsea in the first half with an organized press. Grabbed two goals from mistakes then because it was virtually the same team that played 3 days ago, conserved energy by sitting back in the second half. They won the match tactically. This does not bode well because carbon copy of the game over the weekend and our manager could not see this coming and adjust. Watch as other teams start to press us and copy the number Howe has done on us.

They sat back though.
Well, the fortunes of Newcastle do not concern me but a stronger opponent would have beaten us by 4-0, 5-0.

Had bad misses but Nkunku looked worse than him.

Time has moved on, and players ideally mature as they get older. If Maresca is no nonsense as is led to believe, Felix will remain a Cup player, provided everyone remains fit.

He obviously wasn't alone tonight in this way. Nkunku undoubtedly shown that, despite his superior talent, he will remain Jackson's understudy.
