calculatingInfinity 1,477
Didn't his newest contract include a lower minimun release fee? Also not sure why so many people dont want Godin, guy got talent and while I havent watched him much in Atletico he was class in Villareal and still fairly young. chrismada9 1,948
I hate 'official' bids because I'll just get disappointed.you got that right mate!I don't expect Aguero to join Chelsea this January anyway. I thought it was David Luiz we were meant to be signing??
Cloudy 6
I don't think we put an official bid in. I've read the quote on Ath Madrid's website and it doesn't make sense. If RM did bid 45 mil then they can't say no because it matches his release clause. We may have spoken to AM last week but that was probably to scare Benfica into being more reasonable with Luiz and that probably worked since Benfica's president flew in to speak to us over the weekend. It's up to Aguero about the buy-out clause, if he chooses to leave then that clause becomes active. But the fact he's signed a new contract shows he's not interested in moving in January. - 25 - 167
Mirror says that we've denied bidding. A lot of things don't add up in this story; We've been in negotiations with Benfica for Luiz over the past week at least, wouldn't have thought we'd be going for Godin at the same time.Carlo has said that Luiz will be our only signing if we can reach an agreement.Madrid (who reportedly made a bid) and Mourinho have been at loggerheads recently over their refusal to give him funds to buy another striker, hence Adebayor joining on loan. All very strange... chrismada9 1,948
Let me just say...If Ancelotti is saying that David Luiz is our only signing, and Chelsea are trying to make a bid for Aguero and Godin, then clearly, Ancelotti is not making the decisions on who we are and aren't signing. Term-X 7,891
Won't get my hopes up, even if it is the first official bid. Shame Benayoun has taken Aguero's number 10 shirt, I suppose he could always wear 25..Let me just say...If Ancelotti is saying that David Luiz is our only signing, and Chelsea are trying to make a bid for Aguero and Godin, then clearly, Ancelotti is not making the decisions on who we are and aren't signing.Ultimately he doesn't have the final say, but they will have consulted him.Carlo lies to the press anyway. neel 257
Just to reiterate, this is a genuine bid we've made. Even if we don't sign either... its a sign Roman's back.absolutely
RX8 40
who understands chelsea! first does not make sense, now we are biding for Aguero, a few months after he has signed a contract extention, or is that made because Madrid also offered? The only logical point of view is that Aguero reduce 15 million on his release clausure.... In any case too late to make movements for Aguero, although I admit that I would love him in the team. Now I do not think Anchelotti lie to the press, but I really think that is a white lier, a product of what everyone already knows, Anchelotti is not the type of coach who likes to have total control of the team as the case of Mou , Ferguson, Wenger and Benitez himself. The truth is that negotiations of David Luiz appear to have the market attentive to our actions. The question is, we are moving in the market? This also means that there is money for signings that indicates that Abramovich gave the green light for that and gives Anchelotti the confidence to buy some new player. The other question for me is... why will this guy from the atletic will lie about this?? Swoopz 183
I think this was just a move to get Benfica to budge. They are holding us ransom to a price tag, because they know we dont have another option. If Chelsea is involved in another transfer which would also include a striker at a reasonable price tag, Benfica will sell much quicker.

They are holding us ransom to a price tag, because they know we dont have another option. We did have alternatives. Cahill, Kjær, and even Lescott. All were denied though by either the club or their agents, but I suspect we would have gone for any one of those players if we weren't able to sign David Luiz. Ollie 4,400
i think its a genuine bid and it's a bid to win us the Champions League. Atletico weren't in the UCL so those players wont be cup tied. The premiership is over after man utd, being the fuckers they are yesterday and coming back from the dead to win. 10 points = too much. I hope this is a genuine bid and even if it gets turned down, at least we know Roman is ready to spend big again, well it's about time. How a team like Atletico can turn down €60 is beyond me tho, its hardly like they are getting anywhere with their current squad.
Henrique 9,133
Like others have said though, this is the first official bid...This is not an official bid: "We never comment on transfer speculation, no matter how wild it is". These news are based in the word of Atletico's president. Its really strange because we didnt hear anything about this in last week. None speculation in british or in spanish press, and now he says we made an offer last week...Carlo said one month ago that he would love to have one defender, he never said he wanted a striker. Mourinho was after one striker whos is strong and is a reference in the box, not the kind of player Aguero is. I dont believe Real Madrid made a 40 millions euros offer for him, and only a stupid guy would believe that Chelsea offered £ 52 millions for Aguero and Godin...its soooooooooooooo nonsense. In other words, Atletico's president is a really bad liar. He is just trying to show that his club is poweful enough to say no to Real Madrid and Chelsea, even if they are offering these kind of money. He is just trying to make his club a giant that can match his Madrid´s rival. Mad guy.

BlueLion. 21,491
I don't think anyone has considered this...Carlo has said Luiz will be the only player to come in this January.Doesn't mean we can't sign pre-contract agreements for players to join in June.
